Chapter 95
[Attention. As of this moment, Mr. Sivar will be granted attack rights. Students are advised to ensure their plans remain unaffected······]
While I was busy crafting various things with bombs, an announcement echoed through the air. It was a notice granting me attack rights.
It seemed the professors could no longer tolerate my flamboyant antics. It was as if they were suggesting I eliminate others directly rather than continue with these eccentric acts.
Then someone might ask, wouldn’t it be better to just step in and eliminate them myself, as the professors want? To that, I can answer firmly.
“Mr. Sivar. Now that you can attack, wouldn’t it be better to clean that up?”
“No.”
Not a chance.
In the past, I might have jumped for joy the moment I was granted attack rights, but not today.
Instead, I use what’s given in the exam hall to make things difficult for the opposing team or push them to the brink of elimination.
This alone provides immense enjoyment—how could I possibly give it up?
Especially when living in the forest, crafting stone axes and stone spears by hand was entertaining. Making various weapons like this is just as fun.
Later, I might ask Ellie to help me experiment with different herbs. The resultant products always turn out to be incredibly rewarding.
“······It should be fine. The advantage remains the same anyway. Could you take a look at the map first?”
While I was contemplating what to make next, Grace called out to me. No matter what else I might ignore, I couldn’t disregard the team leader’s call.
So, I stood beside Grace and looked at the map. It seemed they had relocated the base while I was causing chaos.
Currently, we are hiding on the outskirts of the commercial district, where houses are clustered together. Fortunately, no one has approached us yet.
“It’s about time we started paying attention to the artifact’s location. Considering the mana field so far······”
Grace began drawing a circular diagram on the map with a pen. It represented the shrinking size of the mana field up to this point.
Initially, it was a large circle, but its size gradually decreased toward our current location.
Eventually, when the mana field shrank to its present size, something became apparent.
“It feels like it’s contracting toward a single point, doesn’t it?”
As Lee Yeonju pointed out, the mana field was gradually shrinking around a specific area.
When it was a massive circle, it was hard to notice, but as it shrank, the pattern became unmistakably clear.
“Right? But even this isn’t certain. It’s based on the mana field you observed, Mr. Sivar, but we can’t be sure it’s the center.”
“Still, there’s a high chance it’s here.”
“Yes. If it really is here, we’ll need to move, and there’s a higher likelihood we’ll have to face other teams.”
The point Grace indicated was toward the commercial district. While not exactly the center, it was an area with many buildings.
However, this was just a high-probability guess, not a certainty. At the very least, we’d need to search through three or more buildings.
Moreover, the number of buildings we’d need to investigate would depend on where the mana field shrinks next. In the worst-case scenario, we might have to search more than five buildings.
“There are two plans we can implement immediately. Either Mr. Sivar holds off the other teams while we search for the artifact, or we all search together and face them head-on. What do you think, Yeonju?”
“Hmm······ Both methods have clear pros and cons. Even just searching all the buildings would be too much for one person to handle.”
Whether I drew attention or not, Grace and Lee Yeonju couldn’t separate. It would take too long, and if they were ambushed, they’d be helpless.
Grace seemed to understand this as well, nodding in agreement. With our small numbers from the start, there were many constraints.
“Our team’s strength is Mr. Sivar, but ironically, he’s also our weakness. If Mr. Sivar disappears, our combat power will drop drastically. So we need to use him as effectively as possible······”
Even with attack rights granted to me, the dilemma didn’t vanish. Even the strongest spear and shield are only as effective as the person wielding them.
If I stray too far, Grace and Lee Yeonju are at risk. But if I stay close, efficiency drops significantly.
It’s like deciding whether to use a famous sword for defense only or to slice fruit with it.
“The best option would be to prevent anyone from approaching this area······ but even though Mr. Sivar is strong, he’s only one person, so that’s difficult too.”
Grace pointed to the spot where she suspected the artifact might be located.
We’ll need to see where the mana field shrinks next, but it’s better to block access entirely if possible.
“Hmm······ Huh?”
Just as I was thinking that even bombs might not be enough to block this, something caught my attention.
Looking around to see if there was anything useful nearby, I spotted a jar on a shelf.
I stared at the jar sitting on the shelf before quietly taking it down. Then, I opened the lid to examine its contents.
Inside was something pitch black. It swirled smoothly, appearing to be an ordinary liquid at first glance.
“What are you doing······ Oh, that’s oil.”
“Oil?”
“Yes. Every house seems to have it. But it’s not particularly useful, and the containers are too large, so we left it behind.”
After listening to Lee Yeonju’s explanation, I looked at the oil. Indeed, the jar itself was too large to carry around conveniently.
Staring at the oil in the jar, I poured a small amount onto the floor. It was to confirm if it was really oil.
“Yeonju.”
“Yes?”
“Do you have fire?”
“If you mean a lighter······”
At my request, Lee Yeonju handed me a lighter from among her collected items. The reason she had a lighter was that there were cigarettes among the collected items.
Since none of us smoked, we discarded all the cigarettes but kept the lighter, thinking it might come in handy.
Whoosh!
I lit the oil I had spilled on the floor with the lighter. It burned fiercely, confirming it was indeed oil.
Watching the flames roar from the oil, I tried to stomp it out with my foot. However, it didn’t extinguish as easily as I expected.
Only after pressing down with my other hand did I manage to put it out.
“Perfect.”
An excellent idea came to mind. Leaving the oil-filled jar behind, I searched the house thoroughly.
The first thing I needed was a glass bottle—or rather, a container made of fragile material.
After emptying the contents of the container, I filled it with oil. Finally, I sealed the entrance with paper, completing the process.
“······What are you making this time? Something weird again?”
Seeing me craft something strange again, Grace gave me a scolding look. By now, she seemed resigned, as if letting things unfold as they may.
After carefully inserting a fuse into the bottle’s opening, I examined my creation. Inside the bottle, the oil sloshed around.
“Hmm.”
I was satisfied. Smiling contentedly, I placed the bottle into my bag.
“Grace.”
“Yes, go ahead.”
“I’ll hold them off alone. You two focus on searching.”
This meant I would handle the other teams alone while they looked for the artifact.
Grace seemed to understand my intention, though she looked skeptical. It was as if she was asking if this would really work.
“Not a bomb, but that? Will it be enough?”
“Yes.”
I answered confidently. This would be more than enough.
Beep!
[The mana field is shrinking.]
A broadcast announced that the mana field would soon shrink.
Grace immediately walked over to the window and looked outside. She was trying to determine the mana field’s position.
“······This is the worst. We’ll have to search at least five buildings.”
It seemed the worst-case scenario had come to pass. Searching even one building took time, but now we had to search more than five.
But it didn’t matter. Like a golden goblin, I stuffed my backpack with the finished products and stood up.
The only thing left was to use them.
“I’ll go ahead.”
“Are you sure you’ll be okay?”
Grace asked for confirmation. I nodded in response.
“Yes.”
All animals fear fire.
“It’ll work.”
Humans are animals too, so they’ll fear fire.
******
After Sivar’s bold display, the teams scattered in all directions. As a result, we had a rough idea of where each team might be.
Thanks to this, Luna had to engage in various battles while heading toward the commercial district. Unfortunately, one member was eliminated.
The silver lining was that they hadn’t encountered Kara’s team along the way. If they had, Luna herself might have been eliminated.
‘Granting Sivar attack rights······ This is going to be tough.’
It was already known that Sivar had been granted attack rights. This meant they needed to move even more cautiously.
Ideally, they wanted to avoid combat as much as possible, but their location had already been exposed due to the noise.
Moreover, with the mana field shrinking to its minimum size, the battles were bound to become even more intense.
“Are you okay?”
“Yes······ for now······”
The only remaining team member gasped for breath as they barely managed to reply. While their stamina was intact, they were on the verge of collapse due to a lack of mana.
Normally, they would have been given a mana recovery potion. However, even their backpack had been lost in the recent battle.
Two team members had already been eliminated, and the remaining one was in poor condition, with no collected items left.
Getting this far could already be called a miracle, but there was no guarantee that another miracle would occur.
“Let’s head to that building and rest for now. Rest is the most urgent thing right now.”
“Yes, got it······ huh?”
Luna’s team member started to respond but then widened their eyes in surprise. Their expression seemed to ask if they were seeing things correctly.
Following their gaze, Luna turned her eyes upward. The team member’s gaze was fixed precisely above them.
“······Sivar?”
It was Sivar. Sivar was waiting confidently on the roof of the building.
The building they had planned to enter for rest. Having another team there was already troublesome enough, but it just had to be Sivar.
Realizing that he had attack rights, Luna frowned. It seemed like this was the end of the line.
‘Is running away the only option······’
For now, it was the best choice. They say even in a tiger’s den, you can survive if you stay alert, but if the tiger bites, it’s over.
Clenching her teeth, she waited for Sivar to make a move. She circulated her mana, ready to escape at a moment’s notice.
Meanwhile, Sivar looked down at Luna and reached into his pocket. A moment later, he pulled out a glass bottle.
Chik!
While Luna looked at it with a puzzled expression, Sivar lit the fuse with a lighter.
The fuse burned brightly, as if it had been soaked in oil, catching fire in an instant.
Then, pulling his arm back, he shouted loudly.
“Ignite!”
“······?”
At his shout, Luna tilted her head in confusion. She had no idea why Sivar was yelling like that.
However, the words that followed were enough to throw her into panic.
“Burn brightly!”
“N-No way······?!”
Magic?! Was Sivar using magic?! When did he learn that?!
······Just as Luna was reeling in shock, Sivar swung his arm forward with force.
And then, the glass bottle left his hand. As it spun through the air, the flames on the fuse seemed to spiral along with it.
If nothing else, Sivar’s throwing ability was exceptional. He threw it with such precision that Luna’s dynamic vision could barely keep up.
Crash!
But Sivar’s target wasn’t Luna. To be precise, it was right in front of her.
Whoosh!
“Ugh?!”
As the glass bottle shattered, a substantial flame erupted. Not only did it flare up, but the flames also advanced toward Luna.
As the sudden flames approached, Luna grimaced and dodged to the side. She barely avoided it, but she could still feel the heat.
What on earth had he done to create such a massive flame? She turned her head toward Sivar with a bewildered expression.
“Magic!”
If nothing else, this much was clear.
“Flame magic!”
Sivar had started doing something crazy again.
“Burn brightly!”
Crash!
An arsonist had appeared in the exam hall.
“No! Just attack, you idiot! That’s what you were given it for!!”
“How are we supposed to clean all that up?”
“······I have no idea.”
The professors clutched the backs of their necks as they watched an arsonist follow in the footsteps of a terrorist.
