Chapter 96
To add a note while casting magic composed of physics and chemistry, this item wasn’t originally meant to be used this way.
The oil is stored in a large jar, making it difficult to carry, and even the water container is made of a material that doesn’t break easily when thrown.
Therefore, it’s mostly used for blocking paths or setting traps. You spread the oil in advance and ignite it when someone approaches.
Even in the Soul World, this method is commonly used. People don’t usually make improvised Molotov cocktails and throw them around like I do.
But that’s only because it’s a “game.” Here, it’s reality. In reality, you can use any method available.
Is the water container made of a material that doesn’t break easily? If I infuse it with my Red Mana, it can shatter the moment it hits the ground.
By fulfilling just one condition, I’ve created an environment where Molotov cocktails can be made.
“Magic!”
Clang!
“Fire Magic!”
Whoosh!
Just like I did with Luna, I went around diligently committing acts of arson(?).
Since the flames are fueled by oil, they don’t extinguish easily, and the fire blazes even higher.
If someone tries to use magic to put out the fire, they’ll find their mana nearly depleted, as it’s already late in the game.
“Why won’t it go out?! I poured water on it!”
“It’s spreading even more! What the hell?!”
Above all, fires spread by oil can’t be extinguished with water. Pouring water only makes the flames spread further, not die out.
To extinguish such a fire, you either need to smother it with sand or completely cut off its air supply. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait until all the oil burns away.
Even on Earth, many people don’t know this, so it’s no wonder this world is clueless. Unless they’re someone with a lot of practical experience like Kara, most people wouldn’t know.
“Damn it! That guy is ruining the trial!”
“It’s not ruining it. It’s called tactics.”
“I know that! But why doesn’t he just eliminate us instead of pulling this crap?!”
Running across rooftops and throwing Molotov cocktails everywhere, I made everyone lose their minds. By now, even the professors must be thrilled.
Of course, I’m not throwing them indiscriminately. I’m buying time until Grace finds the artifact.
[Faith Increases!]
Look at that. Even Chaos seems to be thrilled by my actions.
Seeing the message that my faith had increased again, after the bomb vest incident, I smirked inwardly.
Up until now, I’d been relying solely on brute force because it was annoying, but using my brain like this feels refreshing in many ways.
“How on earth did he make something like that?! Is it even allowed?!”
“That water container is supposed to be unbreakable! That guy is just weird!”
“Whoever taught him must’ve done a great job! Only teaching him all the bad stuff!”
Sorry, but I came up with all of this on my own. The world I lived in was full of all kinds of madness.
Calling me a lunatic for just this much is downright adorable. Though, I admit the bomb vest was truly insane.
“At this point, we’ll have to go head-on! Charge!!”
“Hey! Where are you going?!”
Even among the students, there were some crazy ones. One of them forced their way through the flames I had set up, breaking through with sheer determination.
Then they slipped out of my sight and hid inside a building. I didn’t waste a Molotov cocktail on this.
Most of the terrain features, aside from collected items, are akin to a kind of 3D Print. As such, they don’t burn easily.
But they do break easily. I pointed my index finger at the building where the student had hidden.
“Death Beam.”
Boom!!
A red Mana Beam shot out from the tip of my index finger. I adjusted the output just enough to collapse the building.
They probably weren’t seriously injured, but they must’ve fainted. Since I had attack rights, I could do this without hesitation.
Worried that the red mana might stand out? No need to worry. Even at low output, it’s so fast that it’s difficult to see with the naked eye.
This is the result of secretly training the Death Beam behind Rod’s back. Although I occasionally got caught and scolded, it was worth it.
Crackle-
The building, completely destroyed by the Death Beam, revealed the student who had forced their way through the flames lying unconscious inside.
Judging by the protective barrier gradually enveloping them, it seems my prediction was correct—they had fainted.
“How are we supposed to get past that guy?!”
“We don’t have to! Just retreat! It’s better not to mess with a lunatic!”
After repeating this several times, the opponents were so demoralized that they started taking detours.
As long as they didn’t approach the house Grace was investigating, I let the fleeing teams go.
I wanted to throw a Molotov cocktail or fire a Death Beam at them, but I barely restrained myself.
I needed to enjoy the situation itself, not the act of toying with people. Otherwise, something felt off.
‘By the way, they still haven’t found it, have they?’
Taking a short break on the rooftop, I looked back. Grace and Lee Yeonju were probably still searching hard for the artifact.
My job was to prevent other teams from approaching until they found it. That’s why I let the fleeing teams go.
‘Anyone with a sharp mind would’ve figured it out by now.’
Those who were quick-witted would have noticed something strange by now.
Why am I circling a specific area, only throwing Molotov cocktails? And why am I not directly eliminating anyone?
It would give off a strong impression of “blocking” something. They’d realize it had something to do with the artifact.
‘If they come back, it means they’ve figured it out.’
At that point, Molotov cocktails would be useless. Like that student earlier, they’d recklessly charge straight in.
If that happens, Grace and Lee Yeonju would be in danger, so it’d be better to throw everything aside and return.
‘Are you sure? That guy really has the artifact behind him?’
‘I’m not certain. But it’s highly likely.’
While resting on the highest rooftop, I heard voices near my ears.
Turning my head toward the direction of the sound, I saw a very familiar figure.
‘That skin tone really stands out, even from a distance.’
While others had peachy skin tones, Kara’s brown skin and red hair made her instantly noticeable.
While her appearance stood out, she probably assumed I couldn’t hear her from this distance. But by focusing my mana in my ears, I could hear even the smallest sounds.
‘Is this really okay? It feels like too much of a gamble······’
‘In times like this, you need to make a decision. The artifact is definitely in the house behind Sivar.’
Another familiar voice came from the other side. Turning my head, I saw Luna’s team.
Kara and Luna. Both of them seemed quick-witted in situations like this, returning as soon as they had regrouped.
Antonio’s team would probably show up soon too. That guy might even jump in when Luna and Kara were exhausted.
Now that they’ve caught on, it’s about time to prepare for the finale. I stood up and rummaged through my bag.
Despite throwing Molotov cocktails all this time, I still had plenty left. I’d been making more in between, so I could replenish my supply.
Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle—
I poured a large amount of oil from bottles into my bag. I soaked it until the entire bag was almost dripping.
Meanwhile, Kara and Luna’s teams were cautiously approaching me. They still didn’t seem to know what I was planning.
Fwoosh!
I then set the bag on fire. As soon as it caught fire, the flames roared fiercely.
‘Good thing the water containers are hard to break.’
After tossing the lighter I’d been using far away, I got into position.
First, I grabbed the straps of the backpack and crouched slightly. Then, I started spinning in place.
Like an Olympic event using centrifugal force to throw something as far as possible, I built up as much momentum as I could. My hands felt a bit hot, but it was bearable.
Whoosh!
Finally, I hurled the flaming backpack over my head with great force. Using centrifugal force, it soared high into the sky.
The flaming backpack was highly visible. Others must have been wondering what it was.
Of course, I wasn’t finished yet. I waited silently for the backpack, which had risen high into the sky, to fall back down.
Soon, it began losing momentum and started descending. Judging by the flames, the fire had likely spread inside by now.
“······Run!”
“What?!”
“Just run inside!”
Kara seemed to have figured out the situation. Or maybe she instinctively sensed the danger.
Her team followed her lead and started running, but they were a bit too late.
I pointed my index finger at the backpack, which was now plummeting straight down. My finger was aimed precisely at the target.
Pew!
A thin, red Mana Beam shot out from my fingertip, heading straight for the backpack.
Before long, the Mana Beam collided with the backpack. Normally, it should have pierced through. However, I had reduced the output this time.
Kaboom!
As a result, the backpack struck by the Death Beam caused a massive explosion. What needs to be considered here is the primary explosion.
The secondary explosion, of course, came from the Molotov cocktails packed tightly inside.
Kaboom! Boom!
The Molotov cocktails inside the backpack triggered a chain reaction, resulting in a colossal explosion.
From a distance, it might have been a breathtaking sight, but the situation that unfolded afterward was anything but picturesque.
“Huh, huh?”
“It’s falling? What the hell is that?”
Sparks began scattering downward, resembling a ‘Meteor.’
A makeshift Meteor created solely through physics and chemistry. It wouldn’t have the same power as a real Meteor.
But the visual effect was more than sufficient. Flaming debris was falling from above my head.
“Aaaah!”
“Hey! Where are you guys going…?! Damn it!”
Kara’s team scattered in panic as the fireballs rained down from above.
Kara also hurriedly moved her feet, trying to regroup her team, but she was just as much in danger and had no choice but to act quickly.
“Ms. Luna!”
“Survive on your own! There’s nothing I can do about this! See you later!”
Luna was no different. She dodged the falling fireballs as best as she could while making her way inside.
Watching them enter, I descended under the roof. It was time to return to Grace.
[Aaaah! Wh-What is this?! Did someone summon a Meteor?!]
[Shut up and put out the fire! It’s all oil!]
[Aaaah! M-My head! My head is on fire!]
[Everyone, get inside the houses! You’ll be safe there!]
Various screams echoed in my ears. The effect was excellent.
For the time being, the other teams would be busy trying to calm the situation.
‘Breathtaking, my ass.’
They’d be too preoccupied filming a disaster movie. I dodged the fireballs and ran toward the house Grace was investigating.
Locating her was a simple matter of sensing her presence. Her presence was all too familiar to me.
Clatter!
“Grace. I’m here…”
“Ahhh!!”
Perhaps it was because I arrived without warning. As soon as I opened the door, I came face-to-face with Grace.
Her startled reaction was understandable. Given the situation, it made sense that I had approached silently.
“Uh…?”
That much was fine, but why did she throw something strange into my mouth? Was it because she jumped in shock?
Gulp!
And why did I instinctively swallow it?
It wasn’t particularly small, but it wasn’t too large either. Once I gulped, it went down immediately.
“…”
“Uh… Uh…?”
Grace stared at me with a flustered expression. Her violet eyes trembled as if an earthquake had struck them.
I was equally bewildered, unable to say anything. I was merely trying to figure out what had just entered my stomach.
Beep—
In the meantime, a strange noise spread between us. The sound came distinctly from my stomach.
Grace and I both lowered our heads as if entranced. A deep sense of unease filled the air.
Beep!
[The Artifact has been activated.]
This time, it was a broadcast. The announcement forced its way into the space between us.
[The Artifact’s effect is a Mana Field.]
[The Mana Field moves based on the Artifact.]
[If the Artifact is destroyed, its owner will be automatically eliminated.]
Right. Up to this point, I thought it was a jackpot.
[The Artifact has been damaged.]
[The Artifact has been damaged.]
[The Artifact has been damaged.]
That was until the Artifact inside my stomach started screaming for help.
‘Come to think of it, what was my digestion ability… again?’
One thing was certain, though.
I was screwed.
[Faith Increases!]
