Chapter 14: True Nature
After leaving the restaurant, Ren Wei directly left the Black Swan City, heading straight back to his town.
When he arrived back at his house, it was already the time for sunset.
Opening his bamboo gate, he saw light inside his house. Probably Ye Yu's doing.
He also smelled cooking from the kitchen.
But he didn't try to investigate it. He simply walked towards his room.
As he was about to open his door, Ye Yu's voice was heard from the kitchen door. "Hello, sir. Are you back?"
Ren Wei took a breath and responded. "Yeah." But he didn't stop and turned around to chat. He just went inside.
Standing on the kitchen doorway, Ye Yu sighed. "Ai..." and shook his head.
He was going to cook a meal for his savior. And was thinking of asking something from him.
'Maybe he saw through my plan?' He thought as he recalled Ren Wei's action.
'But I must not give up. He is my only option, now.' But he didn't think of giving up.
As he was standing there revising his plan, a strong burnt smell hit his nose. "Uhkh.... oh my...goodness. I left it for too long." He hurriedly ran back inside the kitchen. It was the smell of his cooking being burnt.
Inside the bedroom, Ren Wei lay down on his back thinking about his future plan. "I should tell them to expand the size. Just working inside the city is not enough, anymore. I must find the place soon."
Clang....clang...
As he was busy thinking, he heard the sound of utensils clashing. When he released his sense to check it, he found out that it was just Ye Yu trying to scratch off the burnt foods of the cooking pan.
He shook his head as he saw the whole funny scene. "I can do all kinds of chore... tsk..." He scoffed as he recalled what Ye Yu told him.
From the moment he saved him, Ren Wei knew what kind of person is Ye Yu.
A person who has not done anything evil, personally. But also a person with no good side. A person with deep scheming mindset. Perfect for behind the scene type. Sweet on the outside, bitter on the inside.
He also knew the reason why he was waiting for him. To ask something from him.
Ren Wei can not afford to show any more kindness to this type of people. Who will ask for more.
And the only reason why he was keeping him under his own roof was so that he can monitor his action. Until he reveals his true nature.
"Lets see how long you can fake it." He murmurs.
The next day, Ren Wei woke up early and left the house as usual. And went to the river for his daily reward fishing.
After getting his rewards, he left the river but did not went back to his house directly.
Instead he was secretly he was watching Ye Yu's every steps.
To his disappointment, Ye Yu did not show any suspicious action.
The watching went on for days, but Ye Yu behavior was firm. No suspicious activity.
-----
A week later, after Ren Wei came back from the Black Swan City.
Nighttime.
He was lying on his bed as usual, sensing Ye Yu's action in the other room.
Suddenly, something flew in from his open window. Without a single noise.
It was his messenger owl. Shadow.
Ren Wei quickly sat up and put up his left forearm. A landing spot for the owl.
The owl gently landed on his left hand.
Attached to its leg was a piece of rolled up paper, using a simple thread.
Ren Wei took it off from its leg. And u rolled the paper.
The content.
[Greeting boss,
We found out that the hostile people are from an assasin group, the Blood Mist Hall. A somewhat renowned assasin organization from the capital.
After interrogating one of them, we found that they are here for some kind of treasure. They will take action in 4 days from now.
Location: White Lake Town.
Goodnight.]
After reading the last line, Ren Wei's eyes furrowed. He never expected the location would be his own town.
"If I don't do something about it, many innocent people will die. It looks like I have to reveal myself." Realizing that his small town will be in danger, Ren Wei made up his mind to stop the assasins from arriving in his town.
He took out another piece of paper and wrote 'I got it.' And attached it on the owl leg.
He feed the owl a piece meat and sent it back.
----
Back at the Black Swan City.
Inside the underground basement of South Wind Pavillion.
The five Nan sworn bothers were discussing something.
Nan Lin, the fourth oldest of the five, spoke. "Do you guys think the information we got is reliable?" Uncertainty could be detected from his tone.
Hearing his words, Nan Chen, the oldest of the five, the calm one, calmly said. "Do you think our boss's techniques are unreliable?"
"I.. I didn't mean that. It just the information is big." Nan Lin said.
"Alright, we all know how capable our boss is. You all have seen his skills." Nan Yuan, the second oldest, the mature one of the group, reminded everyone.
As expected, all of them nodded. They all remember how their boss enhanced their low bones to one of the highest with a simple method.
Out of nowhere, Nan Lei, the youngest one, stood up.
"Shoot." He said.
The others turned and looked at him. They all were the same expression. The questioning face.
Feeling the gazes, Nan Lei sighed.
And he admitted something. "I.. forgot to add something on the paper." With a sheepish grin.
"What..!!?" All of them were taken aback.
"I forgot to add the part of their 2nd young master arriving..." Nan Lei said as he sat back down, slowly.
Instead of blaming eachother, all of them had the same thought in their mind. 'How do they inform their boss about that part'.
As they were stuck in a dilemma, they heard they sound of their basement door opening.
Instantly, all of them stood up and put up their guards.
However, just seconds later, they saw the culprit. Shadow, the messenger owl.
"Hu..." all the them let out a sigh of relief.
Shadow calmly flew towards his owl stand. And simply landed on it.
Seeing the messenger owl coming back, they knew the information must have reached their boss.
But when they remembered the part of forgetting to add an important part of the information, the dilemma came back.
Amidst all that, Nan Chen approached the owl. Apparently, he was the only one who saw the piece of paper attached to the owl leg.
But when he reached out his hand to take it, Shadow struck his fingers with its beak.
Peck....
"Ouch..." Nan Chen groaned as he retracted his hand quickly.
The sound instantly attracted the attention of the others. They looked at shadow and Nan Chen.
When Nan Chen checked the finger where Shadow struck, he found it was bleeding. Just a small.
He was surprised. Ever since he became a cultivator, hardly anything can hurt him. But now, an owl's pecking bleed him.
'It seems our boss pet is just as formidable as him.' He thought.
By that time, they all saw the paper attached to Shadow's leg.
They tried to take the paper from him. But just like what happened to Nan Chen, Shadow pecked all their hands.
It took almost half an hour for them to figure out the reason behind it.
Shadow simply wanted an exchange for the paper. It didn't do it to Ren Wei because Ren Wei is his master. But for the five boys, they were simply just his caretaker in his eyes.
Finally, after giving a chicken drumstick, Shadow let them take the paper.
They unrolled the paper and checked the content.
[I got it. Nice job. Work hard. Back on the previous task.]
A simple reply, containing a simple compliment, a simple motivation, and a simple instruction.
Seeing that, all of them wore the same dull expression. "...wo...."
"Well, let's go to sleep. It's already too late." Nan Hai spoke up.
"Yeah." They all agreed and dispersed, went to sleep.
None of them spoke up about the forgotten part of the information. They work hard their asses off, but all they got in return was just a dull and boring expression.
It's probably better not to inform him about the 2nd young master part.
But deep down, they also knew that their boss must have figured out something by now. Their action would not affect him at all.
----
Back at the White Lake Town, inside Ren Wei bedroom.
Ren Wei continued lying on his bed.
By now, he has already connected some dots and had a plan in his mind.
He just needed to confirm one thing. That will determine his flow of the plan.
On the other room, Ye Yu suddenly felt a slight chill.
Even with the blankets on, he still felt it.
