A Different Doraemon World

Chapter 9: Ultimate Evolution

"Over 7 billion years ago, we had a form not much different from humans. At that time, our science and technology were already highly advanced. We had long since discovered the solar system and even observed the formation of Earth.

In one experiment, we gifted Earth with a meteorite—a meteorite carrying the primordial form of life. It was thanks to the microorganisms on that meteorite that life slowly began to appear on Earth."

Karen nodded thoughtfully. "I've studied this before but never understood the origin of life on Earth. So, it turns out the source came from outer space? Indeed, based on research, there was evidence of meteorites colliding with Earth in its early days."

Standing nearby, Nobita furrowed his brow as he looked at Doraemon, wondering why the people of the Eternal Planet had conducted such an experiment. He opened his mouth to ask, but Karen spoke first: "You mentioned that your previous forms weren't much different from humans. So how did you transform into… nothing at all?"

Doraemon replied gently, "This is the result of evolution. Over billions of years, our science advanced, and technology gradually replaced our bodies. Unnecessary parts slowly atrophied."

Everyone nodded in understanding. In truth, atrophy can be considered a form of evolution. For example, in the evolution from apes to humans, the ape's tail atrophied, or in mollusks, squids originally had shells, but their shells have since receded into their soft bodies.

Of course, this process takes an extraordinarily long time, spanning countless ages and hundreds of millions of years.

At this moment, Kelly jumped up and interrupted, "That makes sense. You don't even have to look far. Just 500 years from now, humans have already become incredibly lazy, relying entirely on robots. Everyone's as sluggish as pigs! To be as beautiful as this yo—"

Karen glared at Kelly, prompting her to quickly change her words: "As beautiful as me and Karen, it's extremely rare! If humanity were to continue atrophying, it would undoubtedly start with the limbs." Kelly seemed calmer now, no longer hyperactive.

Doraemon continued: "After over 7 billion years, approximately 400 million years ago, we advanced to an unimaginable level. We atrophied to the point where only part of the central nervous system remained. We only needed to emit neural waves to command everything, making all other bodily organs unnecessary."

"That was 400 million years ago. So now… 'nothing at all'… could it mean…?" Kelly and Karen exchanged uncertain glances with Doraemon.

"As you've guessed, we have now developed to the point where neural waves can exist entirely on their own. Our neural waves have shed all physical organs. The final remnant of our physical bodies—the central nervous system—has completely disappeared."

"Nothing at all… is that what it means!" Kelly and Karen murmured in disbelief.

"In truth, calling it 'nothing at all' isn't entirely accurate. We've left behind only thoughts—only neural waves. Neural waves themselves are a form of electromagnetic wave. We've freed ourselves from the constraints of physical bodies, existing as waves, moving freely at the speed of radio waves, achieving immortality and eternity!"

"Then what about reproduction?" Karen questioned.

"Reproduction exists for survival, to ensure the continuation of a species. It essentially serves to fulfill the desires of living beings. But we have achieved immortality and eternity. Reproduction is unnecessary for us. Nor do we need to do anything to satisfy our desires, because for us, such things have become meaningless."

Nobita, Kelly, and Karen fell into silent contemplation. Indeed, for humans, reproduction is of utmost importance, and fulfilling desires is equally crucial. Some people love delicious food, others love beautiful women, and some dream of ruling the world. But all of this, as Doraemon said, merely stems from sensations provided by the body. At its core, it all exists simply to satisfy desires born from one's mind.

"Therefore, physical organs are unnecessary, as they only exist to serve the mind. In other words, aside from thoughts, all other organs are redundant."

Kelly and Karen offered wry smiles. Although Doraemon's words were somewhat harsh, they couldn't help but find them incredibly reasonable. Perhaps it was true—thought itself is the ultimate endpoint of evolution. Leaving behind only thoughts, everything else becomes unnecessary.
