Chapter 10
Chapter 10: Just Keep Breathing It In, You’ll Get Used to It:
Su Chen not only heard Su Zhenxing’s furious shouting but also Tao Ma’s complaints about him.
Yet, he continued to poke at the burning rose branches, showing no intention of acknowledging them—let alone stepping forward to be lectured.
In fact, feeling that the smoke wasn’t thick enough, he casually threw in two more damp rose branches, still covered in soil.
As soon as the moist branches met the flames, they resisted for a moment before surrendering, releasing a thick cloud of white smoke. The smoke curled and swirled, eagerly joining the growing haze that had already spread throughout the house.
Feeling suffocated?
No worries. Breathe it in a little longer.
You’ll get used to it.
…
A long silence followed.
Then, realizing that Su Chen still hadn’t come forward to explain himself, Su Zhenxing’s anger erupted once more, his voice booming through the villa like a thunderclap.
“Su Chen! Get out here right now!”
“Do you think hiding will make this go away?!”
“The longer you delay, the worse it’ll be for you!”
“Come out now, and I might still go easy on you. Keep hiding, and I won’t let you off!”
His voice echoed so loudly that even the Su family members standing beside him felt their ears ache.
But the awkward part was…
Another long pause followed.
And Su Chen still didn’t appear.
Su Zhenxing’s face turned red with fury.
This unfilial brat!
Was he deliberately humiliating him?!
Seething, he turned to Tao Ma and barked, “Where is Su Chen?!”
“Tao Ma, take me to him!”
“I want to see for myself what nonsense he’s up to!”
Tao Ma, too stunned to keep crying, was still trying to process what was happening.
She had personally witnessed how desperately Young Master Chen had tried to please Mr. Su over the past two years.
If Mr. Su said east, Young Master Chen would never dare say west.
If Mr. Su said west, Young Master Chen would never dare say east.
But today…
Not only was he blatantly ignoring Mr. Su’s words—
He had heard him calling multiple times, yet he still refused to respond!
What was going on?!
Wasn’t Young Master Chen afraid of making Mr. Su dislike him even more?!
Still in shock, Tao Ma snapped back to reality at Mr. Su’s command and quickly led the way to Su Chen’s room.
The rest of the Su family followed close behind.
…
The closer they got to Su Chen’s room, the more shocked they became.
When they finally reached the doorway, their eyes widened in disbelief.
Inside, Su Chen was casually sitting by a small fire, burning branches right in the middle of his room.
And the thick white smoke that had filled the entire villa—
It was all coming from here.
At last, they understood why the house was so choked with smoke.
It really was Su Chen’s doing!
The entire Su family was livid.
He was doing this on purpose!
He must have been upset that they hadn’t sent Su Qiqi to jail—so out of spite, he set this fire to produce smoke and make everyone suffer.
And look—
He was even wearing a mask!
Clearly, he had planned this in advance.
There was no doubt about it—this was completely intentional.
Su Zhenxing trembled with rage, pointing at Su Chen as he roared, “You unfilial brat!”
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?!”
“We were willing to let go of the fact that you called the police and aired our family’s dirty laundry!”
“And yet, you’re still not satisfied?!”
“Now you’ve deliberately started a fire and filled the house with smoke just to harm us?!”
“Su Chen, you rebellious brat! What do you want?!”
“What will it take for you to stop?!”
At the very back of the group, Su Qiqi muttered under her breath, “I wasn’t willing to let it go…”
But at the sharp glare from Su Zhenxing, she instantly shut her mouth.
Liu Yanyan also frowned in disapproval.
“Su Chen, I’ve always believed you were a sensible child.”
“But today, you’re really being unreasonable.”
“First, you called the police on your second sister.”
“Now, you’re playing with fire and filling the house with smoke, nearly choking us all to death.”
“Su Chen, can’t you be a little more mature?”
Hearing her words, Su Chen finally lifted his gaze and glanced at Liu Yanyan.
Ah, the master of emotional manipulation.
In his past life, the reason he had always been so obedient, so timid, so unwilling to stand up for himself—
Was all because of this woman constantly pressuring him with the idea of being ‘sensible.’
She had crushed him with that word until he became a spineless coward who never dared to resist.
Until, eventually, he wasted away and died.
And Liu Yanyan?
She played a direct role in his downfall.
But in this life—
Su Chen saw through her completely.
There was no way she would manipulate him again.
Su Lili also frowned, scolding, “That’s right, Su Chen! Why are you being so selfish?”
“This villa doesn’t belong to just you. The whole family lives here!”
“You need to think about others, not just yourself!”
Su Mu, on the other hand, tried to defend him.
“Brother wouldn’t do this on purpose.”
“He probably didn’t realize the fire would make so much smoke and bother us.”
“But now that he knows how bad it is…”
“Brother, you wouldn’t want us to keep suffering, right? You’ll put out the fire, won’t you?”
His words…
Honestly, it would’ve been better if he had stayed quiet.
Because—
They only made Su Zhenxing even angrier.
“He didn’t know?!”
“He clearly did know—that’s why he wore a mask!”
“Su Chen, put out the fire immediately!”
“If you don’t, I swear I won’t let you off!”
The entire family took turns scolding, warning, and trying to pressure him into putting out the fire.
But Su Chen remained unfazed.
Only after they had all finished speaking—
Did he leisurely pick up another rose branch and toss it into the flames.
The fire crackled, releasing yet another thick wave of white smoke.
And then—
He finally spoke.
“Put out the fire?”
“Impossible.”
“This fire stays.”
As soon as he threw in the new branch, the flames flared up, and an even larger cloud of smoke erupted.
Su Zhenxing’s eye twitched.
Remembering how Su Chen had placed a knife in his hand earlier, he hesitated to step forward and put out the fire himself.
Instead, he could only resort to yelling.
“Why can’t you put it out?!”
“Su Chen, look at us—we’re all choking here!”
“Why won’t you stop?!”
“What exactly do you want?!”
Su Chen calmly stirred the fire, making sure it burned more evenly.
Without even looking up, he answered, “Of course I won’t put it out.”
“This room is so damp it’s unlivable.”
“Why shouldn’t I dry it out with a fire?”
Then, he finally looked up—
And took in the sight of his family.
All of them dressed in their luxurious silk nightwear.
All of them red-eyed and teary from the smoke, their faces streaked with tears.
All of them coughing uncontrollably, struggling to breathe.
Su Chen smiled.
“It’s fine.”
“You’ll get used to it.”
“Once you’re used to it, you won’t feel uncomfortable anymore.”
