Yes! He's the god of acting

Chapter 10: audience

Gurgle.

Vito couldn't help but swallow.

"Wha... what is this?" he rasped, his voice trembling. "No heart, decapitated, and yet it's still moving?"

"The costume... where did it come from? We didn't put it on him, did we?"

"I don't know!!!" Lily was utterly overcome by fear, her words tumbling out in a frantic jumble. "When he crawled out of the ground, he was already wearing that costume... it's the one we put on him when we buried him last night! He's a ghost... He's really a ghost, come back to claim our lives!"

"Stop talking nonsense! There are no ghosts in this world!" Vito snapped.

The sight before him was too bizarre to ignore. His legs wobbled with terror, but he summoned every last ounce of courage, grabbing a nearby kitchen knife and lunging at William's face.

He'd killed William twice before; he could do it a third time.

No matter what that thing inside him was, it didn't seem nearly as terrifying as the Calamities the enforcers warned about. The thought gave Vito some courage.

The knife sliced through the air, and just as it was about to make contact with William, it suddenly halted in mid-air.

Vito froze, his hand trembling, struggling to push the knife forward, but it wouldn't budge. It felt as though an invisible hand had gripped the blade, holding it fast in the air.

"Hehehe."

A strange, eerie laugh echoed from behind William.

In the blink of an eye, the knife in Vito's hand disappeared, replaced by a slender red paper strip.

William, his eyes unfocused and distant, swallowed the axe and kitchen knife in his mouth, his gaze never leaving Vito. Slowly, mechanically, he took a step forward, his raspy voice repeating the same words over and over:

"Dad... I'm hungry."

The simple phrase sent a cold shiver down Vito's spine.

He had no doubt that, in the next moment, William would grab his head and shove it into his mouth, chewing and crushing his skull... His bones couldn't be harder than the axe or the knife!

"Run!! Go find the enforcers!!"

Vito turned and sprinted toward the door, his heart pounding.

He knew the situation had spiraled beyond anything they could handle... The only way out now was to seek help from the enforcers. Those powerful, god-like officials surely had a way to deal with Calamities.

As for the inevitable punishment for their crimes—murder and organ theft—that could come later.

After all, sitting in prison was better than losing their lives.

Lily, still trembling in the corner, snapped back to reality at Vito's shout. She scrambled toward the door, desperate to escape.

Taking advantage of William's attention being focused on Vito, she reached for the doorknob...

But her hand grasped nothing.

Lily looked down, confused, only to realize that the doorknob had vanished... no, not just the doorknob—the entire door had become a painting of red paper, flat and two-dimensional.

She couldn't open a door that was now only a picture.

"Hehehehe..."

The sound of countless whispers filled the room from all directions, as though invisible figures were crowding the space, their eyes filled with mocking amusement.

Red paper fluttered around Lily, and in her dazed state, she saw faces—distorted and grotesque—on the paper.

She screamed, stumbling backward, her eyes wide with raw, unfiltered terror.

Finally, her vision blurred, and she collapsed, losing consciousness.

Meanwhile, Vito felt his feet give way beneath him, and he collapsed heavily to the ground. Dazed, he turned around, only to see the entire floor beneath him ripple and transform into a sea of red, swirling like waves.

He stared in horror as the red-clad William approached, realization dawning. He screamed in terror:

"It's true... what the enforcers said, it's true!"

"You're a Calamity!"

"You're the Calamity that stole William's body!"

At those words, William in red stopped.

A wicked grin spread across his blood-red lips, and with a pale finger, he pressed it to his lips, signaling for silence.

"Shhh—"

Just as the flood of red paper was about to overwhelm Vito, two sharp glass-shattering bangs rang out from the side!

"Calamity sighted at 128 Frostfall Street! Destruction level: 4! Immediate request for enforcer support!"

Two figures, clad in black-and-red uniforms, crashed through the windows. One of them quickly scanned the room and spoke into a communicator.

"Received. Reinforcements are on the way. Try to hold off the target!"

One of the enforcers chuckled nervously. "A level 4 Calamity? How the hell are we supposed to hold it off?"

As the two enforcers barged in, the invisible audience seemed to take notice, intrigued by the new developments.

With a casual flick of his hand, William in red made Vito collapse unconscious, his blood pouring from every orifice, staining the floor beneath him.

"Keep your distance! Save yourselves!"

One of the enforcers retreated quickly, drawing a firearm from his waist and opening fire.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The brass bullets tore through the air, but before they could even reach William in red, they disintegrated into tiny red paper scraps, vanishing into the air.

William in red raised his hand, and countless pieces of paper shot out from the wide sleeves of his robe, wrapping around the two enforcers like serpents.

The paper twisted violently, contorting like a braid, before slamming the enforcers into the ground.

William in red's form expanded, his robe stretching and bulging, as though human faces were trying to burst out from beneath the skin, murmuring in a chaotic chorus.

In seconds, he had become a monstrous creature, a writhing mass of red paper tendrils. Pairs of blood-red eyes opened across the paper, and William's form was all but lost.

With a sudden crash, he shattered the paper door and bolted into the street, his body soundless as the rain struck him.

He darted in a random direction, a crimson blur racing through the night.

Almost simultaneously, a shadowy figure in black zipped through the sky, tailing the red streak at breakneck speed.

"Target Calamity spotted," Beker said calmly.

"...Is it 'Apocalyptic' level?" a worried voice crackled from the radio.

"From the aura, it's only a level 5. Looks like the Calamity from last night was miscalculated in terms of power."

"A level 5 is still dangerous! Beker, be careful!"

Beker didn't respond. He followed the red streak, arriving at the wilderness at the edge of Zone 3, where he launched himself toward the creature like a bullet.

Boom!

A black meteor slammed into the earth, sending shockwaves through the air.

Flying sand scattered in all directions, forcing the red figure to halt. Thousands of red paper tendrils swayed in the wind as all eyes turned toward the dust cloud.

A lone figure emerged from the debris, lighting a cigarette, the silver streaks on his coat faintly glinting in the dim light.

An invisible field expanded around him, enveloping the red paper monster.

"I am Beker, the Chief Enforcer of the Aurora Domain, Zone 3."

With one hand holding the cigarette, he drew a pitch-black handgun from his waist, releasing the safety with a smooth motion. The sand around him trembled as an invisible killing intent locked onto the red paper monster.

He spoke softly, as though his words carried the weight of some divine law.

"I bring judgment..."

"...Upon your death."
