Wuthering Waves: For The Future of Me, Myself and I

Chapter 12: Abnormality

"Here, you're welcome in. No need to mind the formalities, just treat it like you own home. There's no strict rules here to be followed."

Stepping a foot inside of the house, it caught Katsuri off guard. It was a two story building.

"Both of you, if you'd like, you can familiarize yourself with the area, I'm gonna make us lunch."

Phoebe went inside the kitchen which also had its own door.

Katsuri's jaw was slacked the entire time. It was surprising, the size of this place.

Danjin already went up the stairs, probably going off to check the second floor and what it contains.

The living room was just right beside the entrance while there's a door with a sign that read 'Phoebe's Room' just at the back.

So she lived down stair alone?

Since Phoebe said there were two rooms free, she probably meant that the both of them are upstairs.

I mean, it makes sense.

If she were to have a house for herself which only she lived in, she'd also choose the room closest to the exit.

Katsuri sat down on a nearby couch, feeling the softness embracing her.

It seemed like nothing at first, but the longer she down, the heavier her eyelids became. Almost as if a weight was tied to them.

Not long after sitting down, she fell asleep.

[Wuthering Waves]

"...Where?"

"You're awake. How was it? Did you have enough rest already?"

"...!"

That voice...! There's no way she wouldn't recognize that voice from anywhere. That tiny little crisp that exist inside every word that would be uttered...!

Katsuri turned her head to where the voice came from.

A breathtaking sight.

Under the bright moonlight, as if she herself was a painting made to survive through millennials without an ounce of corrosion from time.

Bright silver hair that seemed to shine under the compliment of nature, it stood out like a scarecrow in a wheat field.

That small smile that tugs away at anyone's heart the longer they looked at it.

It was like looking straight at the devil. You want to look away but you wouldn't be able to.

A playable character inside Wuthering Waves, the only reason she downloaded the game, the entire reason she had stayed awake for days farming for Astrites.

"...Carlotta?"

[Wuthering Waves]

"She seems very tired. How long ago did you think she's slept peacefully like this?"

Phoebe poured cups of tea and placed them on the small round-table in the living room while her eyes occasionally glanced towards the sleeping girl.

"I don't know, we haven't talked that much. She's pretty quiet. She almost never starts the conversation by herself without me talking first."

Danjin grabbed a piece of sandwich on the plate and munched on them quietly.

"I see."

While eating the sandwich, Danjin felt something. Something that she had missed.

But she wasn't able to quite put her fingers on them.

While glancing around, her eyes landed on her companion, the small black haired girl that had survived a TD encounter.

'...ah.'

Now that she think about it, wasn't Katsuri injured?

The scratches that covered her exposed skin was quite numerous that it wouldn't have been surprising if weak-hearted individual faint seeing them.

But as she checked out Katsuri's body, she took note of how clean they are. Almost as if what happened that night never did.

Even she had to second guess herself as to whether or not those scratches actually existed.

Those white skins had no blemishes, as if it had never seen the light of day. The waves of frequencies stable.

Wait, no. She remembered. It was right as she defeated the two Tacet Discords from the previous night.

There was a sudden wave of chaotic frequencies, almost similar to a moment when a TD was born.

Wasn't that the entire reason as to why she went to investigate the small house, abandoned in the middle of nowhere?

Yet, instead of a Tacet Discord, she found her, Katsuri.

The small girl who was a little bit introverted, covered in small injuries but in such large quantities.

Suddenly, a small glow caught her attention.

Katsuri was sitting down on the chair, her head leaned back into the seat sleeping peacefully.

Due to that, her hair also moved back, revealing the back of Katsuri's neck.

Danjin placed down her half eaten sandwich and waved towards Phoebe, who had also taken a seat, to get closer to her.

"...?"

Phoebe, confused, followed the location Danjin was pointing.

It was the back of Katsuri's neck. A dark line goes across it.

Both of them, being a Resonator, knew what that was.

It was a Tacet Mark.

But something was wrong with it.

There were no stars. It was just a straight, black line. If the two of them were regular people, they would've thought it was just a marker or something else, but the two of them are Resonators.

This kind of Tacet Mark had never been recorded anywhere.

Unbeknownst to all three resident, Katsuri's sword, which had been left near the front door was vibrating, as if it was resonating with something in the world.
