Chapter 379: Treasure Hunting and Bargain Finds
The Demon Region lay at the very center of the Eastern Profound Territory, a place famous for its deadly allure and a haven for rare powers. Outside its dark heart was a sprawling network of cities, with Demon City as the most grandiose and important of them all—also Lin Langtian and his team's destination.
As Yuan Gate's large contingent approached the boundary of the Demon Region, the skies grew crowded with others rushing from all directions. It seemed that all of them were headed toward the same objective: the Sect Tournament. This grand event was one of the most significant in the Eastern Profound Territory, attracting countless skilled disciples from across the region.
Lin Langtian surveyed the bustling scene, a hint of admiration in his eyes. "It's quite a spectacle, surpassing even the Battle of the Hundred Empires," he mused. Although that battle had been vast, the quality here was on another level. In the Battle of the Hundred Empires, a Sixth Yuan Nirvana practitioner would be considered top-tier. But here, such a level merely qualified one to participate.
"We're already within the Demon Region's borders," Song Yun informed him cheerfully. "It won't be long until we reach Demon City, where we'll see the other sects' disciples too."
Lin Langtian nodded, narrowing his gaze as they neared. The land below had taken on a deep, dark hue, growing darker and denser the closer they flew. Even the distant sky seemed to dim, casting an oppressive feeling over all who entered.
Yet Lin Langtian barely noticed this eerie atmosphere; he was already well-acquainted with the demonic energy that hung thickly in the air here. While he pondered, their team quickly flew past a towering mountain and was met by a deafening clamor that burst forth as they rounded the peak.
The sight drew Lin Langtian's attention upward. Before them sprawled a massive black city, stretching endlessly and resembling an ancient black dragon—its atmosphere heavy with a desolate chill. In the skies above, silhouettes darted back and forth like swarming locusts, and waves of noise rolled out from within, filling the air.
"That's Demon City," Pang Lie said with a smirk, pointing to the huge dark mass in the distance.
"Follow me into the city," the head of the Heavenly Division commanded with a stern voice. Exchanging a nod with the other division leaders, he led their forces closer to the massive fortress-city. Yuan Gate's formation of over five hundred disciples drew widespread attention as they approached Demon City. The sight of so many elite disciples, led by their powerful division heads, filled onlookers with awe and respect. After all, Yuan Gate's dominance as the leading sect of the Eastern Profound Territory was seldom questioned.
"Ah, Yuan Gate has arrived too…"
"As expected of the top sect. Eight advanced Life Profound masters as escorts? Quite impressive."
"This year's champion is probably Yuan Gate again. They always come out on top in these tournaments. Last time, they even wiped out Dao Sect's top disciple."
"The feud between Yuan Gate and Dao Sect runs deep. I wonder which side will prevail this time."
"Most likely Yuan Gate again. The Three Little Kings' reputation precedes them, and I've heard there's a prodigy named Lin Langtian who even bested Yuan Cang, the leader of the Three Little Kings."
"Yes, I've heard about him too. Seems Yuan Gate is as strong as ever. Dao Sect's in for a tough fight."
The murmurs from onlookers reached the ears of the Yuan Gate disciples, bringing smirks of pride to their faces. Yuan Cang and his two allies, however, wore dark expressions. In past tournaments, the Three Little Kings had been recognized as Yuan Gate's elite. Yet now, Lin Langtian had risen to overshadow them—a bitter pill to swallow.
Lin Langtian ignored the gossip around him and focused instead on the skyline of Demon City. Suddenly, a rapid succession of whooshing sounds came from another direction. He glanced over to see another large group arriving, their ranks clad in ash-gray robes that exuded a sinister aura, drawing attention from everyone present.
"Who are they?" Lin Langtian asked, narrowing his eyes.
"That's the Wan Gui Sect," Song Yun whispered.
Lin Langtian's eyebrows lifted slightly. Wan Gui Sect was also one of the Eight Supreme Sects, and their combat style was rather unique and difficult to counter. Every disciple in Wan Gui Sect possessed a life-bound puppet, a technique Lin Langtian, with his own demonic shadow, was particularly familiar with.
"That one at the front should be their top disciple, Mo Gui Gui Li," Song Yun said, pointing to a youth standing straight and stern beside two gray-robed elders.
Lin Langtian followed Song Yun's gaze, observing the young man in gray, whose face was pale and inscrutable. His aura was chilling, and it was clear he'd reached the Ninth Yuan Nirvana Stage.
"His life-bound puppet is said to have reached the ninth level, putting it on par with a Ninth Yuan Nirvana practitioner. Of course, he's no match for you, Senior Brother," Song Yun remarked with a grin. Lin Langtian's victory over Yuan Cang had made him a near-unbeatable force among the younger generation in the Eastern Profound Territory.
As Lin Langtian continued to scrutinize the gray-clad youth, the young man seemed to sense his gaze and looked over in return.
"This is Lin Langtian, the rising star of Yuan Gate, the one who even defeated Yuan Cang…" muttered the gray-robed youth, his gaze serious as he finally looked away.
"Let's go."
Ahead of him, two gray-robed elders exchanged glances with the Yuan Gate leaders. Without another word, they waved their hands and led the disciples of Wan Gui Sect into the city. Once they had entered, Yuan Gate's Heavenly Division Head led his group toward a different part of the city.
In the sky above, the crowd watched as two of the Eight Supreme Sects arrived, excitement building in their eyes. This grand event of the Eastern Profound Territory had officially begun, and no one knew yet who would rise to dominate it.
The Yuan Gate disciples settled in the eastern part of Demon City under the guidance of their division leaders. After days of travel, Lin Langtian had intended to meditate, but Song Yun's suggestion piqued his interest.
"Senior Brother, would you be interested in the Treasure Market? Being close to the Demon Region, Demon City attracts treasure seekers who venture inside and return with all sorts of rare finds. Of course, many of these items are damaged or unrecognized, but every so often someone stumbles upon an ancient relic. If you're lucky, it can be a huge windfall," Song Yun explained eagerly.
"It's true," added Pang Lie with a chuckle. "There's a story of someone who found a Pure Yuan Treasure there. The seller was so upset when he found out its true worth that he tried to reclaim it by force, causing a bloody brawl that spread throughout Demon City. Tons of unlucky folks got caught in the crossfire."
"A Pure Yuan Treasure…" Lin Langtian raised an eyebrow. Such treasures were invaluable even to the Eight Supreme Sects. "Seems it's worth a visit to the Treasure Market."
The Treasure Market was located in Demon City's northern quarter and was one of the most popular areas in the city. Due to the quality of the items and treasures offered there, buyers were expected to have ample Nirvana Pills on hand.
As Lin Langtian, accompanied by Song Yun, Mo Tie, and a few trusted disciples, entered the Treasure Market, a wave of bustling noise hit them like a torrent, ringing sharply in their ears.
The area was vast, yet throngs of people filled the wide streets. Large, smooth green stones were placed around, each with a glowing barrier where various peddlers sat cross-legged, displaying an array of peculiar items meant to tempt passersby.
"Ancient martial arts technique! The Grand Creation Palm! On par with top-tier spirit techniques, only eight million Nirvana Pills!"
"Revitalizing Pill! The ultimate healing pill! Even if you're on your last breath, it'll bring you back to full health! Seven million Nirvana Pills!"
Walking through the market, Lin Langtian heard these cries and looked around in curiosity but was not particularly tempted. He and his companions weren't naive; they knew many claims were just sales gimmicks. To find a genuine treasure here, they would need to rely on their own discerning eyes rather than the sellers' sales pitch.
As they ventured deeper into the market, the number of vendors decreased, but the quality of items on display clearly rose. These were no longer items with inflated names; these had real substance.
"The deeper parts of the market have the genuine goods. The sellers here know their stuff," explained Song Yun, his experience evident.
Lin Langtian nodded in agreement, noting that even he found a few of the displayed treasures impressive.
"There are many disciples from other supreme sects here," Mo Tie observed, glancing around in fascination at the scene.
Lin Langtian scanned the crowd and noticed several young figures wearing the badges of other sects, each exuding the same pride. It was clear they, too, were participants in the Sect Tournament. However, upon noticing Lin Langtian's group, many toned down their arrogance. Yuan Gate was the leader among the Eight Supreme Sects, and these disciples had no reason to show off in front of Yuan Gate's members.
Unperturbed, Lin Langtian strolled through the market, eyes roving over the items on display. He found the marketplace intriguing, recalling how "destined heroes" in stories often stumbled across rare treasures in places like this. Perhaps he, too, might find something unexpected here.
Thinking this, Lin Langtian suddenly stopped, his attention drawn to a certain stall. His followers, curious, came up beside him.
The stall owner, a middle-aged man in a brown robe, barely acknowledged them. He cast a glance at Lin Langtian and then looked away indifferently.
Lin Langtian wasn't bothered by the man's attitude. His gaze had already moved to the glowing green barrier over the green stone where the vendor sat. On the stone were a dozen glowing orbs, each emanating a powerful energy, indicating that they were potent spirit treasures.
But Lin Langtian's focus wasn't on these orbs. His eyes had shifted to a dim, nearly forgotten corner of the display.
In that corner lay a small, unassuming dark orb, about the size of half a finger, with a blackish hue and a texture almost like a worn eyeball.
As Lin Langtian gazed at it, he felt a slight resonance from the Golden Spirit Mirror within him. The reaction was subtle, but he noticed it immediately, and his gaze sharpened.
After a brief pause, he stepped forward, not bothering to conceal his interest. He reached out, picking up the small dark orb. Smiling faintly, he turned to the brown-robed man.
"How much for this?"
