Chapter 52: Chapter 52 Ancient Creature Bloodline Modification
Locke hadn't expected Sophia to be so indignant.
He tentatively asked, "Mentor, I want to undergo an [Orcney Giant Bear] Bloodline modification for myself. I wonder if I could purchase 500ml of that bear's blood from you."
"I'd also like to buy the Orcney Giant Bear Specific Bloodline Separation Potion from you."
Sophia glanced at Locke and smiled, "You're quite the little schemer. Well, I'm in a good mood today."
"The Orcney Giant Bear Bloodline is indeed an excellent modification direction, especially suitable for your current situation."
"Surviving comes before everything else. If you die during patrol missions, all your future potential would be meaningless."
"That Orcney Giant Bear is useless to me now. You can extract as much blood as you want, just don't kill it."
"I've already arranged to sell off some unused resources I accumulated during my time as a First Class Wizard Apprentice, though it'll take some time to organize everything."
"About three months."
Sophia continued, "During this period, the Orcney Giant Bear is yours to handle. Also, I do have some leftover Orcney Giant Bear Bloodline Separation Potions."
"If you want them, I can sell them to you cheap. They're just worthless items to me now, wouldn't fetch many Magic Stones anyway."
Casually, Sophia said, "Let's say... fifty Magic Stones. Give me fifty, then go to Warehouse Three and take the wooden crate labeled 'Orcney Giant Bear Bloodline Separation Potion'. There are three vials inside - useless to me, take them if you want."
"You can use those separation potions to practice."
Locke was stunned. He looked up at Sophia.
From his Second-Class Wizard Apprentice classmates in public lectures, Locke had learned that most Formal Wizard Mentors typically exploited their Second-Class apprentices like tools.
Even for basic lab supplies needed for their work, apprentices usually had to pay Magic Stones themselves.
Yet Sophia was directly selling him the Bloodline Separation Potions - normally worth at least two hundred Magic Stones per vial - at a steep discount.
Locke said quietly to Sophia, "Thank... you, Mentor."
His gaze at Sophia was complicated. If not for his enormous secret, he might have been able to be completely open with her.
Of course, he had to maintain secrecy.
The secret he carried was enough to drive any Formal Wizard mad with desire.
After all, the Synthetic Cube was the kind of artifact that became more powerful the higher one's level.
Sophia said sternly to Locke, "Locke, I'll be very busy recently. Unless it's absolutely necessary, don't disturb me."
Sophia the Witch was flipping through a magic book—one that seemed to be at the level of a Formal Wizard. She remained deeply engrossed, murmuring to herself. "These few Magical Materials have been extinct for over three thousand years. According to historical records, even the ancient wizards of that era couldn't have obtained them..."
"There must be more to this story."
"The trials in the Star Domain Sea are so difficult... But to advance further, I must leave this barren southeastern corner..."
Noticing Sophia's intense focus, Locke quietly slipped out of her office.
Outside the wooden door, Locke pondered, "It seems even Formal Wizards have their own troubles."
Though those troubles were far beyond what someone like him was worthy of knowing yet.
...
A week later, Locke had taken leave from his patrol duties during this time.
After all, he only needed to serve ten days a month.
As a Second-Class Wizard Apprentice, most of his time was devoted to study, research, and working for his Wizard Mentor and senior apprentices.
In a study within his own house, Locke gazed at a set of cheap extraction and refinement equipment laid out on his desk.
Over half a week, he had used three vials of Bloodline Separation Potion and extracted the blood of an Orcney Giant Bear three times, refining it into three doses of Orcney Giant Bear Blood Essence Modification Potion.
Next, Locke synthesized the three vials of Orcney Giant Bear Blood Essence Modification Potion...
The Synthetic Cube seemed to recognize the Orcney Giant Bear Blood Essence Modification Potion as inherently a Level 5 item. Thus, he could only spend two days performing a single synthesis, combining the three Level 5 potions into one Level 6 Blood Essence Modification Potion.
Moreover, a special synthesis formula appeared to have emerged.
Locke read the description:
[Orcney Giant Bear (Ancient Species) Blood Essence Modification Potion, Level 6 Synthesized Item. The Potion Master has traced and uncovered a latent strand of ancient Magical Creature Bloodline power hidden within the ordinary blood of the Orcney Giant Bear. Consuming this potion grants the power of an ancient Bloodline.]
[Consuming this potion not only grants Earth Magic Tattoo Skin but also a 0.5-circle Giant Bear Body, allowing the user to increase their size by 2.5 times for ten minutes, with a significant boost in strength.]
[Warning 1: This product contains the Bloodline power of an ancient creature. Ancient Bloodlines are far more volatile than those of ordinary Magical Creatures. Consumption will severely degrade mental stability, causing your Mana to become highly volatile.]
[Warning 2: When consuming this potion, ensure at least one jin (approx. 1.1 lbs) of meat is prepared nearby.]
Glancing at Warning 2, Locke rang the bell in his room, summoning a Gray Dwarf servant.
The Gray Dwarf servant gazed in awe and fear at the ancient Bloodline version of the Orcney Giant Bear Bloodline Modification Potion on Locke's desk. To him, the potion radiated an aura of mystery and terror—much like the image of wizards in his mind.
Locke commanded, "Prepare ten kilograms of meat for me."
"The sooner, the better."
The Gray Dwarf servant bowed deeply. "Great Wizard Master, your command is divine decree to me."
An hour later, the Gray Dwarf servant wheeled in a cart laden with beef, placed it in the study, and respectfully withdrew.
Locke instructed them to guard the house and prevent outsiders from entering. Then, he locked the study door and drank the Orcney Giant Bear (ancient version) Bloodline Essence Transformation Potion in one gulp.
With a muffled groan, Locke slumped into his chair. He then flipped open his notebook and quickly recorded his experience with the potion.
"Abnormal muscle twitching in the arms—likely due to the ancient creature's bloodline transforming my muscles."
"Olfactory senses undergoing unusual changes..."
"Heart rate suddenly dropped to thirty beats per minute, far below the human average..."
"But these conditions appear temporary. My body is gradually returning to normal."
Half an hour later, Locke stood up from his seat. He seemed slightly taller, and his body now bore noticeable muscle definition.
Most importantly, a brown diamond-shaped mark had appeared on the back of his left hand. With a thought, Locke channeled Mana into the mark. Instantly, brown streaks extended from the mark, spreading across his arm and then his entire body.
Next, Locke's body began to expand. His muscles and bones swelled under the effect of the Earth Magic Tattoo Skin, inflating like a balloon.
Now resembling a small giant, Locke felt his defense, stamina, and strength had significantly increased. Moreover, after taking the potion, he noticed his mental energy had grown by over ten percent, though it also became extremely volatile.
Locke placed his palm on the Amethyst Matrix borrowed from Sophia the Witch. The matrix displayed a number: [76].
Locke exclaimed in delight, "It actually increased my mental energy by 15 points directly! No wonder all Second-Class Wizard Apprentiles in the academy undergo bloodline transformations."
"This is almost equivalent to the mental energy gain from over half a year of meditation. My improvement rate now matches that of a Wizard Seedling with nearly 7th-level Wizard Talent!"
"Of course, this is also due to the ancient creature's bloodline contained in the potion."
Locke noticed his current emotions were far more volatile than usual—he felt easily provoked. The slightest irritation seemed enough to make him "see red."
This was a side effect of the bloodline transformation.
Normally, Second-Class Wizard Apprentiles could only mitigate such mental side effects through relentless meditation, gradually wearing down the agitation over time.
But Locke reached into his pocket and retrieved a Deep Purple Gem.
The gem shimmered with an eerie violet light. As his Mana was absorbed into it, the corrupted energy emerged purified—completely free of any side effects.
Locke exhaled deeply. "Thankfully, there's the Deep Purple Gem. Otherwise, the mental corruption alone would've been a nightmare."
"With this ancient creature's bloodline power, my safety is greatly enhanced."
"Among Second-Class Wizard Apprentiles, very few could kill me alone now."
A loud growl erupted from Locke's stomach. He licked his lips as he eyed the meat on the trolley. "No wonder preparing food in advance was necessary. The ancient bloodline transformation consumes massive amounts of energy."
