Wizard:Starting from Synthesizing Gems

Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Level 6 Deep Purple Gem

Dwarf Street, on the road.

Locke carefully wrapped the vampire heart with a handkerchief. He remembered the dark elf Sassari once mentioning that vampire hearts could be used to brew several types of apprentice-level potions.

One such potion, called [Crimson Echo], could temporarily boost a Second-Class Wizard Apprentice's mental power by 10%. The side effects were merely temporary vampire syndrome—body temperature imbalance, blood-red vision, and loss of taste—lasting no more than a month.

Acquiring this vampire heart would bring him considerable benefits.

Who would have thought that joining the patrol squad and becoming an enforcement wizard for Lilith's Cottage would yield such rare magical materials?

Locke glanced down at the wound on his shoulder. Though rewarding, this job was undeniably dangerous.

Take just now, for example—had that Blood Curse Court wizard apprentice focused his attack on him, he'd be dead by now.

Fortunately, his seemingly low Mana reserves had made him an unremarkable target to that Black Wizard apprentice.

But the longer he stayed with the patrol squad, the more likely the Blood Curse Court would uncover his details. When that happened, he'd be in real danger.

So, just as Mentor Sophia had warned him, he needed to find a way to leave the patrol squad as soon as possible.

Locke turned and approached Captain Bruno Suarez. "Captain Suarez, I happen to have two friends here. I'd like to check on them, see if they're alright."

Bruno Suarez was busy collecting evidence at the scene and waved dismissively. "We don't stand on ceremony here. Do as you please."

"Helia, take that experiment log. We're handing it over to the academy higher-ups."

"Such harmful things must be destroyed and banned."

Captain Bruno Suarez coldly addressed the terrified Third-Class Wizard Seedlings: "Listen well, newcomers."

"This is the fate of those who walk the crooked path."

"Let this be a warning to you all."

On Dwarf Street, the petrified Wizard Seedlings nodded hurriedly in response.

Meanwhile, Locke entered Raun's house on Dwarf Street, where both Raun and Pierre had taken shelter.

When the two saw that their visitor was Locke, they visibly relaxed.

Raun exhaled deeply. "Locke, it's you."

"Congratulations. Pierre and I heard you've become an enforcement wizard apprentice."

Pierre gazed enviously at Locke, whose wizard robe now bore two badges—one representing his status as a Second-Class Wizard Apprentice of the academy, the other marking him as an enforcement wizard apprentice.

"Locke, you actually became an enforcement wizard apprentice?" Pierre said. "Even local wizard apprentices rarely get into the patrol squad."

"You're really something."

Locke paused, then realized—though Pierre was a local wizard, he came from an ordinary family. It made sense he wouldn't know the current behind-the-scenes situation with the patrol squad.

Locke didn't want to explain too much and gave a slight nod. "It's alright."

"I came this time to check if anything had happened to you. It's good that you're both fine."

"Stay safe during this period."

Raun and Pierre were deeply moved upon hearing this.

Raun said, "Locke, having a friend like you is truly wonderful."

"Don't worry. Actually, we should thank you. Because you entered our house wearing the badge of a Second-Class Wizard Apprentice and the enforcement wizard apprentice badge, I think Pierre and I will face fewer minor troubles in the coming days."

Locke nodded. Seeing that they were both fine, he exchanged a few simple words before excusing himself and leaving.

Pierre watched Locke's retreating figure with envy. "It only took him a year to become a Second-Class Wizard Apprentice and join the patrol team. Who knows how long we'll have to study before we can leave this place."

Raun glanced at him, recalling how Locke had joined Lilith's Cottage with him and arrived here by boat together, sharing the same aptitude level. He couldn't help but sigh.

"This is just the difference between people, I suppose."

"All we can do is study hard and push forward with all our might to catch up to those favored by the heavens."

...

In the afternoon, the patrol team went out again to handle a minor disturbance caused by an invasive magical species—the Screaming Frog.

Due to the wizard war between Lilith's Cottage and the Blood Curse Court, Lilith's territory was not only infiltrated by many wizard apprentice spies but also experienced a slight ecological imbalance.

This, in turn, led to a sharp increase in the patrol team's workload.

After a tiring day, Locke finally returned to Inverted Alley No. 341.

Inside his small villa, Locke removed his dust-covered wizard robe and handed it to a Gray Dwarf, instructing another, "Bring dinner to my room and prepare hot water for a bath."

"Do not allow anyone to enter my bedroom and disturb my rest."

The Gray Dwarves bowed to Locke and said, "Great wizard master, your command is our divine decree."

In his bedroom, Locke sat on the bed, holding a thumb-sized Deep Purple Gem between his fingers. The gem had eight facets, reflecting a noble glow.

This was a new synthesis formula he had discovered recently.

Locke examined the gem's description—

Deep Purple Gem.

[Level 6 synthesis item. A special gem from the void, said to be formed by the intense compression of matter within the void's chaotic currents. Possesses the unique ability to absorb mental impurities tainted by Bloodline contamination. A single Deep Purple Gem can improve the quality of ten units of Mana.]

A thoughtful glint flashed in Locke's eyes. "I've heard of this gem in the All Things Class. It's a type of apprentice-level magical resource not produced in the southeastern regions."

"Wizards who undergo Bloodline modification gain many benefits, but it also leads to Bloodline contamination and alters the nature of their Mana, leaving behind numerous side effects."

"But with a few Deep Purple Gems, this problem can be easily resolved."

Locke mused, "As a Second-Class Wizard Apprentice, it's indeed time for me to undergo a simple Bloodline modification procedure."

"Generally speaking, Second-Class Wizard Apprentices undergo at least one Bloodline modification to their bodies. This can relatively improve their innate talent and mental strength to some extent."

"It's a common practice that everyone does."

"Moreover, staying in the patrol team is extremely dangerous. I must quickly enhance my strength to prevent encountering such a passive situation like today again."

"Since I have the means, I should undergo a Bloodline modification with lower side effects."

Locke reached out and picked up a magic book from the shelf, flipping through it. The greatest side effect of Bloodline modification on the spiritual level is that it degrades the purity of one's Mana, leaving hidden dangers that affect future advancements.

It's something beneficial for the present but detrimental to the future.

However, if he possessed a large amount of Deep Purple Gems, he could undergo some powerful Bloodline modifications, though they would come with significant mental contamination.

He browsed through the notes from the All Things Class, his gaze lingering on the illustrations of intermediate Magical Creatures: the [Orcney Giant Bear] and the [Ulson Giant Wolf].
