Chapter 78
In the abyss, outside the lair of Demon King Xie Zuo, a large golden egg half as tall as a man stood alone on the ground, unguarded.
The big golden egg was very beautiful, round and shining with golden light, with countless tiny lightnings flowing around it.
In the darkness, scarlet eyes opened one after another, gradually surrounding the big golden egg.
No one knew who had shouted, “Come on!”
A group of evil demons that had been hiding for a long time rushed forward, dragging their broken bodies. Even if they could take a small bite of this rare treasure in the world, it would be enough for them to live for a long time!
In the distance, Wu Xiao popped his head out of the soil, looked at the demons and evil spirits that were coming one after another, and sneered, “You are really seeking death!”
The demons and evil spirits surged up like a tide and surrounded the big golden egg.
At that moment, Huo Yao happened to walk out of the nest and saw the big golden egg surrounded. He did not move but instead folded his arms and stood there watching.
The first group of demons that bit into the big golden egg realized something was wrong and too late to escape!
They watched helplessly as their bodies were consumed by the big golden egg.
“Run quickly—!”
The demon on the outermost edge saw that the situation was not going well, so he turned around and ran away. Those who were close to the big golden egg were out of luck. It emitted a strong golden light. Wherever the light touched, all the evil spirits were trapped and devoured in despair.
After consuming a large number of evil spirits, the big golden egg actually burped. It seemed very content. The thunder and lightning around it crackled, and its body rolled to Huo Yao’s feet.
Huo Yao picked it up and lovingly stroked its body with his large hands. This was their flesh and blood, him and Xie Zuo’s great treasure, a link forever connecting their bodies and souls.
The big golden egg obediently responded to his touch, the thunder and lightning subsiding. It made a sizzling sound, almost like a coquettish whisper. It especially liked the thunder and lightning power emanating from Huo Yao, finding comfort and safety in it.
Huo Yao and the Big Golden Egg shared a loving bond, like father and son, living happily together. However, Xie Zuo was deeply troubled.
Deep in the lair, the original Xie Zuo laid weakly on the ground, resting.
The separation from the golden egg had nearly cost him his life. If he had known the process would be so agonizing, he might have reconsidered creating this golden core.
Despite knowing the core would grow, Xie Zuo never expected it to become so immense. He was forced to transform back into his original form, a giant python, before successfully separating.
A massive amount of demonic power was released all at once, greatly draining Xie Zuo’s vitality. He attempted to sip the golden core to replenish himself, only to find it electrified and untouchable!
“Zizzi~”
Hearing the approaching sound, Xie Zuo glanced sideways, took a deep breath, and continued lying on the ground.
Huo Yao sat nearby, one arm around the big golden egg, gently stroking Xie Zuo’s head with the other hand. “Are you awake?”
“Yeah,” Xie Zuo replied lazily.
“Open your mouth.”
Xie Zuo obediently opened his mouth and tasted a sweet pill. “What’s this?”
“Bian Zhong brought it yesterday to help you recover quickly. She didn’t want to disturb you while you were sleeping, so she left it here.”
“Oh.” Xie Zuo flicked his tail, rolled over, and his eyes involuntarily settled on the big golden egg.
The egg emitted a loud sizzling sound, followed by crackling. It looked like a creature with electrified fur, lightning patterns standing on end like a giant hedgehog.
Xie Zuo sighed. “This is all your fault. Ever since it absorbed your divine power, this golden core has been abnormal. It looks like this now, electrified all over. It could kill someone with its spikes. How am I supposed to eat it?”
Huo Yao couldn’t help but feel nervous. He hugged the big golden egg tightly and reassured, “I’ll protect you through all the tribulation. You’ll be alright.”
“Forget it, since it won’t let me touch it, I’ll let you take care of it. Once I recover, I’ll make another one.”
Huo Yao nodded reluctantly. “Okay, take care of yourself first. Don’t worry.”
The light on the big golden egg dimmed considerably, looking crestfallen.
Still weak, Xie Zuo fell asleep without saying much.
Huo Yao comforted the big golden egg with gentle touches, kissed it, and whispered, “Don’t blame your mother. He doesn’t understand. Just wait until you safely hatch from your shell.”
The big golden egg trembled slightly and rolled out of Huo Yao’s arms, coming to a stop beside Xie Zuo’s head.
.
A month later, Xie Zuo had fully recovered and regained his human form.
Perhaps because he had temporarily set aside thoughts of consuming the big golden egg, it had become less wary of him lately. Occasionally, it would even gather thunder and lightning for him to touch and embrace.
Xie Zuo sensed that the big golden egg was more than just a condensed form of demon power. It seemed to possess its own consciousness, discerning who treated it well and who meant it harm.
Once again, Xie Zuo felt like he had raised a child.
Despite knowing the big golden egg was a spiritual being, Xie Zuo found himself surprised by how Huo Yao interacted with it.
Huo Yao cared for and nurtured the big golden egg as if it were their child, embracing it daily and engaging in conversations.
Moved by Huo Yao’s affection, Xie Zuo decided not to consume the egg unless absolutely necessary, leaving it as a plaything for Huo Yao.
One day, Huo Yao received a decree from Tiandi and departed from the abyss for a mission, leaving Xie Zuo and the Big Golden Egg alone.
Before leaving, Huo Yao instructed Xie Zuo sternly not to consume the big golden egg during his absence. Only after Xie Zuo impatiently swore an oath did Huo Yao depart without worry.
As soon as Huo Yao left, the big golden egg immediately displayed its thunder and lightning powers in alertness.
Xie Zuo observed it for a while, then teased, “Are you so afraid I’ll eat you, little one?”
The big golden egg became even more nervous.
“I won’t eat you, even if you ask me to. I still remember how prickly you were!” Xie Zuo chuckled and settled down to meditate peacefully.
Recently, black clouds had gathered over the abyss, a harbinger of Xie Zuo’s impending tribulation.
If there were no accidents, Xie Zuo would have smoothly survived the heavenly tribulation.
Since birth, Huo Yao had kept Xie Zuo detained in the abyss. Occasionally, when Huo Yao ventured out, he would glance at Xie Zuo. Despite his confinement, Xie Zuo refrained from wrongdoing and accumulated considerable merit.
Despite these merits, they couldn’t afford to be complacent in the face of tribulation. Huo Yao reminded Xie Zuo not to leave the abyss anytime soon, to focus on his practice and stabilize his mindset.
Lately, Xie Zuo had become unusually compliant. Yet, the monotony of daily life in the abyss had worn thin, and he yearned for freedom.
After the tribulation, the abyss could no longer confine him. He envisioned a life under the sun with Huo Yao.
As Xie Zuo concentrated on his training, the big golden egg followed him, clandestinely absorbing some of the demon power he emitted.
“Brother, brother, are you there?”
Xie Zuo frowned. Mu Rong again—what could be so urgent? He had instructed Mu Rong to avoid disturbing him unless absolutely necessary due to his busy schedule.
“Brother, please come quickly! Something significant has happened at Wu Mountain and Meng Mountain!”
