Chapter 117 - I
Huo Yao’s karmic fire had been removed, and he could now leave the underground river for extended periods. He began discussing moving with Xie Zuo.
Yes, Huo Yao was moving because they had a child. The little snake’s mother had moved three times, and as a father, he naturally felt it necessary to consider the future of his two children.
The Asura world was full of miasma, and its folk customs were rough. The Asuras either indulged in pleasure or wallowed in deep hatred, constantly dwelling on their glorious past. It was truly not a good place to raise children.
Xie Zuo naturally agreed to the move. He preferred the bright and lively human world with its singing birds and fragrant flowers. He proposed finding a new island in the East China Sea in Wu Xiao’s territory, where the family could live together as they had before.
After breakfast that day, Xie Zuo and Huo Yao went into the study to draft a moving plan together.
“The place needs to be big enough for little snake and the others to do whatever they want,” Xie Zuo said enthusiastically as he discussed the details with Huo Yao. “We’ll need to build several buildings. Let little snake design one himself.”
“Yes,” Huo Yao replied, sitting at the table with a serious expression, carefully writing down every request Xie Zuo made. Finally, he added a small request of his own, “Wu Xiao can live outside the island.”
Xie Zuo paused, speechless. He couldn’t think of a reason to reject the suggestion outright, but he knew that if they truly threw Wu Xiao out, the latter would definitely die. “…Hmm…” Xie Zuo thought hard before saying, “We still need him to take care of the children. Little snake likes him quite a lot.”
Huo Yao looked upright as he responded, “For the sake of the children, we can’t let him live here. He has an extreme temperament and indulges in eating, drinking, whoring, and gambling. What would we do if little snake picked up bad habits from him?”
Xie Zuo was at a loss for words. “Ah… this…” For the first time in his life, he heard Huo Yao criticize someone so openly.
“Bang!” There was a loud noise as the window blew open. The octopus-like Wu Xiao appeared, raising eight menacing tentacles. “You bastard, Huo Yao! I’m not done with you!”
Wu Xiao transformed into his human form as he rushed inside. He was furious. He was already putting up with so much—looking after their children, doing chores as the Great Heavenly King of the East China Sea, and even maintaining his ridiculous octopus form to fit in. It still wasn’t enough! Now Huo Yao wanted to drive him out? He had to fight back! He was ready to kill Huo Yao today and take away both Xie Zuo and the children!
Before the fight began, Huo Yao didn’t forget to complaint to Xie Zuo, “He’s always eavesdropping.”
As Huo Yao and Wu Xiao began their brawl, Xie Zuo sighed helplessly. Picking up the moving plan they had just drafted, he walked out of the room and called for little snake. “Come here and tell Daddy what kind of room you want.”
The fight ended with Wu Xiao’s defeat, but Huo Yao didn’t come out unscathed either. Wu Xiao always believed Huo Yao had won over Xie Zuo purely with his looks. Out of resentment and jealousy, he aimed every blow at Huo Yao’s face during their fights. When the scuffle was over, Huo Yao went to find Xie Zuo with a bruised nose and swollen face.
Xie Zuo was in the back garden, rubbing little snake’s belly. Beside him laid an updated moving plan, now filled with many new requirements made by little snake.
Huo Yao walked over and sat down next to Xie Zuo.
Xie Zuo looked at Huo Yao’s bruised and battered face, feeling both amused and distressed. He leaned over and kissed him. “Let Wu Xiao live with us. Otherwise, he’ll block the door and curse at us every day. Don’t you find that annoying?”
Little snake also chimed in to support Wu Xiao. “That’s right, Father. I like Uncle a lot, and I want to live with him.”
Huo Yao’s expression clearly showed his reluctance, but he didn’t voice any objections.
Knowing that Huo Yao had silently agreed, Xie Zuo kissed him again in a gesture of comfort.
“Woo—” came Wu Xiao’s loud, exaggerated sobbing from behind. “Woo-wah-wow—my dear nephew, my love for you has never been in vain!”
Xie Zuo shook his head in exasperation. Wu Xiao’s crying was really unpleasant.
Amid Wu Xiao’s thunderous wails, Xie Zuo and Huo Yao shared a lingering kiss.
After making a plan and identifying all the people who would be moving, it was time to find a place. This time, Xie Zuo and Huo Yao thought of the same.
.
Rain Deity Lin’s life had become very simple and comfortable.
He lived alone on Rain Deity Island. Outside the island stretched the vast East China Sea, and the island was peaceful, filled with the singing of birds and the fragrance of flowers. Because of the nourishment of the rain deity’s moist breath, everywhere on the island was lush and full of life.
Every day, he went to the temple to ascend the throne and fulfil his duties, handle the prayers of believers, make clouds and rain, and left his post on time. Then, he would take a phoenix egg and go for a walk on the beach, enjoying the sea breeze and listening to the gossip of the seabirds.
Birds were naturally chatty, and if one listened to them often, it was possible to learn a lot of strange things without Lin having to inquire.
For example, there was a new king in the Asura world. It was said that the new king was the Great Thunder Deity who had escaped from nowhere.
For example, the Demon King had been imprisoned in Asura City by King Asura, and it was said that he was tortured miserably.
Another example was that there had been a sudden change in the divine world, and Tiandi was sleeping. It was rumoured that Tiandi had wronged the Great Thunder Deity and, therefore, had been punished by the laws of the heaven.
On this day, Lin was walking on the beach again, still holding the red phoenix egg in his hand, when a small boat suddenly appeared on the horizon.
It was coming! Lin quickly put the phoenix egg into his sleeve and flew toward the small boat against the wind.
Standing on the bow was Huo Yao, and on the stern was Xie Zuo, who was playing in the water with his feet hanging down. There was also a small dark purple octopus floating in the water, and a small golden snake was jubilant next to it.
“Brother Ah Yun!” Lin called, landing in the middle of the boat, trying hard to hide his nervousness. “Why are you here?”
Xie Zuo shook the water off his feet and stood up, hesitating. “Um… Feng Yi is still here with you, right?”
Lin’s heart sank. Sure enough, Xie Zuo still didn’t want to let Feng Yi go. Judging from Huo Yao’s current attire, the rumours were probably true. Now that the Great Thunder Deity had become King Asura, he naturally didn’t need his previous deity post, so Feng Yi had nothing to protect himself with.
Lin was very torn. On the one hand, he couldn’t let go of Feng Yi. On the other hand, it was true that Feng Yi had betrayed his faith and framed Huo Yao and Xie Zuo. He could not morally persuade himself to favour Feng Yi.
Lin sighed and took out the phoenix egg. “Here it is with me.”
What shocked Lin was that Xie Zuo did not smash the phoenix egg immediately but instead carefully took it over.
Xie Zuo sighed. “The future I saw back then has become a reality. He died because of me after all. I feel sorry for him.”
Lin opened his eyes wide. “Brother Ah Yun, what happened? You… don’t you hate him very much?”
Huo Yao slowed down the speed of the boat at this time, and Xie Zuo didn’t hide anything from Lin, telling him the cause and effect.
Lin was dizzy and shocked until they landed. Oh my god, his Brother Ah Yun turned out to be… Tiandi! Originally, it had been surprising to him that Xie Zuo was the Demon King. He had finally accepted it, but it turned out that Xie Zuo still had a hidden identity and was still such an unattainable character. For a moment, Lin didn’t know how to face Xie Zuo. Should he call him “Tiandi” or “Heavenly Father”?
