Chapter 523: The Plan

"Don't worry, the Fire Spirit Race trusts humans a lot. Haven't you seen how they like to use human skeletons as their own bodies? I specifically had my companion secretly hunt down a large batch of humans from the Jiuzhou continent, transported their corpses here, and turned them into bones to lure these skeletons," Brain Deficient stated confidently.

Ye Ji replied, "Just because they like human bones doesn't necessarily mean they like humans."

"You are wrong; these skeletons want human bones for their bodies because they like humans, wanting to emulate human behavior. Since you look the most like humans, it's easier for you to win the trust of the young skeletons," Brain Deficient corrected him.

Ye Ji sized up Brain Deficient, speaking meaningfully, "You also look like a human. Why don't the skeletons like you then?"

Brain Deficient's face darkened slightly but remained silent.

Ri An laughed, "I get it now, those little skeletons can tell the stench of your Demon Tentacle Race and don't trust you."

"Don't forget who has the big meat tumors," Brain Deficient retorted.

Both Ri An and Ye Ji narrowed their eyes, anger apparent in their gaze.

Brain Deficient continued, "We all have our own goals. If we want to cooperate, talk less! That Purple Fire Skeleton will surely go back and summon the other skeletons to move those human bones. We will then attack them, and you will just have to show up at the right moment, pretending to drive us away. The skeletons will definitely be grateful to you, and they should let you into Shepherd City. You can cooperate from inside and out then."

Ye Ji spoke eagerly, "Then I can't wait to tear you to pieces."

Brain Deficient narrowed his eyes, looking quite unpleasant.

"If the act isn't convincing enough, how would they believe it?"

Ri An smiled. When she smiled, it was like a breath of spring, warm and pleasant.

"Since it's a play, you should also understand, if I don't injure you, why would they take you back for treatment?" Brain Deficient replied with a cold laugh.

Both Ye Ji and Ri An exchanged looks, uncertain, and snorted coldly after a moment.

The two of them stopped talking and walked away.

——

"So it was a plan to feign weakness."

Xiang Beifei roughly understood the plan of the Demon Tentacle Race and the Moon God Race; both species seemed eager to get inside Si Hou, but clearly, with boiling magma as a defensive barrier, neither the Meat-Winged Monsters nor the Ghost Mustache of Remnant Visage could break through.

That meant, a frontal assault was almost impossible.

So the Ghost Mustache of Remnant Visage and the Meat-Winged Monsters intended to unite, using the young skeletons' affinity for humans to infiltrate Si Hou and internally break down the skeletons' defenses.

It was a perfect plan.

The Moon God Race, looking saintly and beautiful, had a strong power of persuasion.

Xiang Beifei glared coldly at Brain Deficient, outraged that for this plan, he went as far as to slaughter so many on the Jiuzhou continent! Those hundreds of skeletons, at the very least, were hundreds of human lives, all lost at the hands of this group of Ghost Mustache of Remnant Visage.

Truly malevolent!

Xiang Beifei fell silent for a moment before returning to the magma cave.

——

"Xiaohei, you and Erha follow my plan," Xiang Beifei had explained his next moves to Xiaohei and Erha in his mind.

Since the Ghost Mustache of Remnant Visage and the Meat-Winged Monster wanted to join forces, it was only natural he got involved.

"Woof woof!" Xiaohei expressed that there was no problem at all.

Xiaohei had already located Erha, and the two sneaks were now tallying the deployment locations and numbers of the Ghost Mustache of Remnant Visage. Each with their natural advantages—one could become invisible, and the other could control trees—they had nothing to worry about in these mountains.

"Keep an eye on Erha, it's a bit jittery; don't let anything go awry," Xiang Beifei warned again.

"Woof!"

Brain Deficient didn't return to the cave but instead headed towards the canyon where the giant eagle had been, planning to lie in wait there.

Xiang Beifei, however, stayed by the cave. He had originally wanted to try using the breath soil on the magma, but after a moment's thought, he chose not to proceed with that idea.

Half an hour later, bubbles emerged gurgling again within the magma, and soon the purple fire skeleton's head reappeared from the magma, flapping towards the cave's glowing red wall of rocks.

The skeleton moved in the magma as effortlessly as a person swims through water, its eye sockets glowing with a faint purple flame that protected it.

Plop! Plop!

But Beifei soon realized that it wasn't just the purple fire skeleton in the magma this time—other skulls began to pop up as well!

These skulls were of various kinds—some cracked wide open, their bones loosely scattered. Apart from their skulls being human-like, the other bones were from desolate beasts.

However, uniquely, the flames within these skulls' eye sockets varied in color; red, yellow, green, blue, cyan, and purple—they all sparkled with different lights, quite peculiarly.

The first purple fire skeleton had skillfully climbed up the cliff and reached the edge of the cave, beckoning the other skeletons. They quickly climbed up, the light in their eyes flickering continuously.

It seemed that the skeletons communicated through the frequency of their flames' flickers; Xiang Beifei couldn't quite make out what the little skeletons were saying, but he guessed that the faster the flickering, the more excited they were.

In total, there were now twenty skeletons. Apart from the human bones that composed the body of the purple fire skeleton, the others were mostly made of desolate beast bones.

To make themselves look more like humans, some skeletons had even ground their desolate beast bones into shapes resembling human bones—they looked somewhat odd but were clearly striving to appear human.

The skeletons proceeded boldly along the passage, leapt out of the mountain pit, and began to quickly leap forward in the forest like monkeys.

It was an eerily bizarre scene—so many skeletons hopping around in the forest as if hurrying to a fair, quite lively. However, some skeletons clearly didn't have perfect control over their bones, and during their leaps, a few managed to dislodge their own toe bones.

But the skeletons didn't stop to pick them up; there were better parts ahead, and these little bones weren't worth the trouble!

Soon, the purple fire skeleton led its kinsmen to the giant eagle's nest, and all the skeletons' flames in their skull sockets began to flicker excitedly at the sight of the pile of bones!

The other skeletons were already impatient to start scavenging through that stack of bones, the complete human skeletons attracting them immensely.

At that moment, in the dense woods above the valley, Brain Deficient and other Ghostly Visage operatives stood on tree branches, using the leaves as cover, watching the group of skeletons.

On the other side, Ri An and Ye Ji were also standing afar and observing.

"They're finally here," Brain Deficient said with a cold smile.
