Chapter 8: Chapter-8
The new ship was built in 1989.
"I recruited a group of crew members. It's said that they will be delivered within one day," Zhao Chen said.
"Crew members? What crew members?"
"Slave crew members. Didn't you say this is the cheapest option?"
"How much did it cost? Didn't you spend all your college points?"
"Not much. Only 3,000 star coins."
"If I remember correctly, there are only about 3,000 star coins left in your account for living expenses."
"Yes."
"......"
Zhao Wan'er's face was already covered in dark lines. Why hadn't she realized before that her brother was so unreliable?
"Look, this is the list," Zhao Chen said, showing Zhao Wan'er the list of slaves he had bought, complete with pictures.
Zhao Wan'er was even more shocked when she saw these pictures.
Because they were all half-orcs—and all female half-orcs.
Zhao Wan'er glared at her brother, her face darkened: "Zhao Chen!"
...…
Zhao Wan'er scolded Zhao Chen and turned away indignantly.
In her opinion, her brother was crazy and stubborn.
She had to prepare for the worst: cleaning up Zhao Chen's mess.
After Zhao Wan'er left, Zhao Chen washed up, had a good sleep, and changed into clean clothes.
At this time, the 'slave crew' Zhao Chen had ordered arrived.
"Hello, are you Mr. Zhao Chen? Here are the 100 slaves you ordered. Please show your ID card," a man with a professional smile greeted him at the door of Zhao Chen's workshop.
Behind the man were mechanical carts covered with black cloth—ten in total, each about three meters high, four or five meters long, and two meters wide.
Apart from that, no other personnel were visible.
Zhao Chen showed his ID card and asked in confusion, "Where are the people I ordered?"
"Inside." The man lifted the black cloth from one of the carts, revealing a number of iron cages inside.
Each cage was about a meter high, and inside were half-orcs, sitting with their hands on their knees. Their clothes were torn, and electronic shackles were locked around their necks and feet. They all looked haggard and fearful.
"This is the software that can control the electronic shackles on their necks. These shackles have the functions of electric shock and self-destruction. Unless you enter the password to unlock them, any external damage will cause self-destruction," the man explained.
"I see. Are these cages also for me?" Zhao Chen asked, pointing at the tools.
"Of course," the man smiled.
The half-orcs had been in their possession for a long time. It wasn't hard to part with a few mechanical carts and cages for such an arrangement.
"Then I can move them in myself," Zhao Chen said, pushing the mechanical carts into the workshop.
He uncovered the black cloth.
The orcs were fully revealed before Zhao Chen.
There were various types of orcs. Some were covered in hair like wild beasts, while others looked more human but had the ears or tails of wild animals.
Among them, the orcs with features of three wild beasts—dogs, pigs, and sheep—were the most common.
However, one orc stood out the most.
She was a white-haired female orc with blue eyes that burned with hostility, anger, and defiance. She had a pair of broken white ears on her head, and a broken white tail protruded from her backside.
Many ugly scars marred her face and body. If not for those scars, she might have fit the human aesthetic.
Zhao Chen was very "familiar" with this female orc. The main reason he chose this batch of orcs was because of her.
"Hello, General Charlotte."
The white-haired female orc looked at Zhao Chen with some surprise. She even muttered her name aloud, especially the title.
"General Charlotte was born in the Black Dragon Star Region of the Warhammer Star Tribe, a descendant of the White Tiger Tribe. She was dissatisfied with the oppression of the Orc tribes by the local lord regime, so she rose up and formed an interstellar resistance army.
She spent three years fighting in over fifty interstellar battles, big and small. She once commanded a 300-ship rebel fleet and fought a fierce battle against a 500-ship lord fleet, eventually emerging victorious, even destroying a T3 starship of the enemy.
But three months ago, due to a traitor's betrayal, her forces were ambushed by an enemy fleet many times larger than hers. The entire rebel fleet was destroyed, and her whereabouts have been unknown ever since.
I never expected that she would end up as a slave, sold to the Star Empire." Zhao Chen explained the story of the half-orc female general.
Charlotte's expression was dazed as she listened to Zhao Chen.
Zhao Chen opened Charlotte's cage and sat down in front of her.
"So, do you want to talk?" he asked.
Charlotte let out a bitter laugh. "Talk? I'm just a prisoner now. What's there to talk about?"
"For example, your freedom. And the freedom of the half-orc soldiers who, like you, have been sold as slaves," Zhao Chen suggested.
Charlotte's attention was piqued, and she stared at Zhao Chen warily.
"What do you mean?"
Zhao Chen smiled. "To be honest, I have a starship, but I don't have a crew. So I was hoping you and your people could serve as my crew."
"Heh... So you just want us to work for free, right? That's why you bought us slaves?" Charlotte sneered.
"No, no, no. I want crew members, not slaves. Space Marines who are willing to fight for me!" Zhao Chen corrected her.
"Orcs will never fight for others." Charlotte's eyes flashed with pride.
"If not for yourself, think about the orc warriors who once fought alongside you," Zhao Chen said.
"As far as I know, because of your defeat, nearly 30,000 orc slaves were sold to our Xingyao Empire.
I bought only 100 of them, but the rest are in danger of dying."
Zhao Chen's words hit home.
Charlotte hesitated. Zhao Chen knew that he was close to winning her over.
He stood up. "You fight for me, and I promise that once I am able, I will buy back all the orc warriors who were once your subordinates, scattered across the Xingyao Empire.
And if you lead them to fight for me for three years, you and your people will be free after that. How about it? Will you fight for me? Or rather, for your freedom?"
Zhao Chen extended his hand to Charlotte.
Charlotte's expression was complicated. Her eyes were filled with emotions.
Finally, she extended her hand and shook Zhao Chen's.
But she still said stubbornly, "I'm doing this for my people."
