Chapter 12: Chapter-12
The battle was over, and the battle was over.
Day 2
The third starship duel area under the jurisdiction of the North Star Starship Academy had been arranged in advance.
This area was located outside the North Star Starship Academy, consisting of dozens of abandoned, uninhabited, and desolate asteroids. It was specially designated for starship simulation battles or duels at the Academy.
At this moment, the duel was being broadcasted on the academy's intranet, which was a common practice for starship duels.
Class 8 Classroom
Someone specially tuned in to the broadcast channel, and the holographic projection appeared in the center of the classroom.
"When will the duel between Zhao Chen and Zhang Haoran begin?"
"I read the announcement. The scheduled time is 10 o'clock. It's already 10 o'clock. According to the duel rules, both starships must arrive at the battle area within half an hour of the stipulated time."
"Look, that's Zhang Haoran's starship! It's actually a T2 Bald Eagle-class light interstellar cruiser!"
"That's the most outstanding T2-class interstellar cruiser in our Xingyao Empire. Its speed is second only to the T2 interstellar frigate of the same level!"
"I heard that this T2 Bald Eagle-class light interstellar cruiser is now priced at at least 7 million star coins, and it's currently out of stock! You may not be able to buy it even if you want to!"
"It's over. Zhao Chen is finished this time."
The students in Class 8 were all pessimistic about Zhao Chen. His starship was outmatched. How could he fight?
Could Zhao Chen come up with a starship that could rival this one?
Shen Bing, the class monitor, stared at the T2 Bald Eagle-class light interstellar cruiser but did not share the envious expressions of the other students. She had studied this starship and considered it to be a "flashy" product.
Its only advantage was speed. Its other configurations were essentially a "magic modified version" of an interstellar destroyer.
Because it was a light starship, its hull armor wasn't as strong, and its firepower equipment did not meet the level of the standard T2 interstellar cruiser.
However, in a duel between single starships, as long as the captain of the T2 Bald Eagle-class light interstellar cruiser was sufficiently skilled, it could rely on high speed and kite-flying tactics to defeat most starships.
But in the real interstellar battlefield, against fleet-level forces, it would have little effect.
"Class monitor, what do you think? Does Zhao Chen still have a chance of winning?" Shen Bing's best friend came to her side and asked curiously.
Shen Bing had earned the title of class monitor not because of her looks but because she was the best student in Class 8. If it weren't for her humble background, she could have been in one of the top classes.
Despite this, she had ranked in the top ten of her grade for the last three years of theoretical exams. Known as a civilian academic master.
"Very low," Shen Bing said softly.
"Then, wasn't Zhao Chen so arrogant yesterday? Isn't he just slapping himself in the face now? If I were him, I would have run back to my territory and become a useless baron." Her best friend mocked without hesitation.
There were also many cold words in the class at this moment.
Because Class 8 was a civilian class, most of the students came from civilian backgrounds or interstellar trade families.
Zhao Chen was an exception.
His noble identity was ridiculed and despised by the aristocratic students. Among these civilian students, Zhao Chen was an annoying existence, and naturally, everyone rejected this baron student.
Shen Bing said nothing. She recalled Zhao Chen's confident expression from yesterday. Was it just "arrogance"?
"Why hasn't Zhao Chen's starship appeared yet? There are less than fifteen minutes left before the half-hour deadline. Could this guy really have run away?"
"Forget him. I don't care whether he wins or loses, but this is a disgrace to our Class 8."
"Forget it. He's lost already, and we won't have to see this guy's ugly face next semester."
The students of Class 8 laughed and sneered.
Bang
A loud noise echoed, it was Li Wei.
He slammed his fist on the wall and glanced coldly at everyone in the classroom.
Everyone who met Li Wei's gaze quickly looked away.
Li Wei was the top student in Class 8; after all, he had a rich businessman father.
"No matter what, Zhao Chen is still a student in our Class 8. It's fine if you don't cheer for him, but sneering about him? Where is the camaraderie you learned in the military literacy class?" Li Wei scolded.
The students in the classroom didn't answer Li Wei directly, but some whispered to each other, and most of what they said wasn't favorable.
"Ahem... cough..."
At this time, a voice came from Li Wei—it was the teacher of the class.
"Alright, it's time for class. Please return to your seats." The teacher glanced at Li Wei, walked to the podium, and prepared for the class that would start shortly.
Li Wei clenched his fists and silently returned to his seat.
He was deeply concerned about Zhao Chen but hadn't been able to contact him since this morning.
"Look! That strange starship! It can't be Zhao Chen's ship, can it?" Someone exclaimed.
Everyone's eyes turned to the holographic broadcast window. In the universe, where only the T2 Bald Eagle-class light interstellar cruiser had been visible, another starship slowly appeared.
The hull of this ship was painted a dull iron color, and compared to Zhang Haoran's T2 Bald Eagle-class light interstellar cruiser, this starship looked tattered. Some parts were even clearly "patched."
"What kind of starship is this? Why don't I recognize it?"
"It looks like an interstellar battleship... but the weapons aren't on the same caliber as an interstellar battleship."
"This tattered starship? I bet Zhang Haoran's T2 Bald Eagle-class light interstellar cruiser will tear it to pieces in one shot."
Seeing this strange starship, the students of Class 8 dismissed it as junk.
"Shen Bing, you're a good student. Do you recognize what kind of starship this is?" Shen Bing's best friend asked again.
Shen Bing looked carefully and frowned. "This starship... has the structural characteristics of three different ships: the T2 Hyena-class medium star destroyer, the T2 Devil Crocodile-class medium star battleship, and the T2 Gray Wolf-class light star cruiser."
"Is this an assembled starship?"
"An assembled starship? Zhao Chen wants to defeat a T2 Bald Eagle with an assembled starship? Is he dreaming?" The best friend scoffed.
Shen Bing stared at this old, assembled starship without speaking.
"It's time for class. Turn off the irrelevant things. The most important thing now is for you to study, not to focus on unimportant matters. Be a decent person and be down-to-earth," the teacher announced.
But there seemed to be something hidden in his words.
Li Wei clenched his fists in frustration.
The holographic video screen in the classroom was turned off.
Li Wei really wanted to know what happened in the next battle between Zhao Chen and Zhang Haoran, but his grades were different from Zhao Chen's. He couldn't afford to miss a month of classes, and he had to attend every lesson.
The only thing Zhao Chen had said to him before was not to worry, to attend class, and to wait for good news from him.
But who could attend class with ease in this situation?
Not just him, but many students in Class 8 were curious. They weren't curious about the result but about how Zhao Chen would lose.
It was probably going to be an ugly loss.
