SWNOVELXO Chapter 572: She Went Out
AHHH!! Why is it still coming after us?!
Is it because we're too far away from the other Leviathan that neither has noticed each other yet?!
Damn it! Because we have no thrusters now, we can't even make evasive manoeuvres! If that Leviathan decides to attack us now, we can't even dodge it!!
I was just about to call everyone to brace themselves when a ball of fire shot itself in front of us.
At first I thought it was Amber's ship but I realised the size of the fire ball was too small for that to be her ship.
Eh?! Wait! That's Amber herself!! She got out of her ship?!
I shifted through the screens on my console and I saw her ship floating a distance behind us, the cockpit clearly empty.
So I wasn't seeing things!! That's Amber flying outside!!
What is she doing?!!
I held my breath as the small ball of fire gathered an even bigger fireball before she launched it at the Leviathan, the fire exploding against its head and drawing the creature's attention to her instead.
It slithered after her and she continued to pelt it with more fireballs before turning around to speed towards the other Leviathan.
Amber, you crazy woman! Why do you have to be so hot?! I love you!!
"Umm… Should I be worried now?" The Pirate Lord asked, reminding me that he's still on the call with me.
"Quiet," I growled back instinctively, annoyed that this guy would even dare to interrupt me watching my lover being a badass out there.
Thankfully, he can't see what's going on outside the ship or there won't be any way for us to hide the fireball currently blasting at the Leviathan outside.
Oh whoops, I probably shouldn't be so antagonistic towards him.
I cleared my throat, "Ahem… We're handling it fine for now. How is your crew doing?"
"Eh? They… They are en route to this position so we should have time to get out of here and wait for the two Leviathans to finish fighting. I estimate that this fight might take a few days or so, you know?"
"Right… Guess you better sit tight then."
I shut off the call and turned my attention back to the bridge, "Ries? What's going on with the engines? Why can that Leviathan cripple us like that?"
She turned to me, "Umm… Do you want me to go and check the engines, Boss?"
"Please do… It's not like we can do anything while we're like this anyway…"
She got out from the pilot's seat and ran out of the bridge, presumably to inspect our engines at the back.
I shifted my gaze back to the screen and I could see the little fireball flying straight towards the other Leviathan right before the fish Leviathan spotted them and immediately started 'swimming' towards them.
Amber then snuffed out her fire and the snake Leviathan finally noticed its rival and sped up towards it, its mouth opened wide.
The two giant creatures clashed and I got to see them crashing against each other as they snapped their mouths angrily, trying to gouge out the flesh from their opponent.
Since Amber had shut off her fire, it was hard to see her against the dark background of space but I believe she should be coming back.
Unfortunately for us, there was nothing we could do right now as our ship drifted along thanks to our earlier momentum so we could only wait for us to get out of range of that Leviathan… Or have Ries figure out a solution to this.
The good thing was that everything else was still working so it wasn't like a sort of EMP that disabled our power at least.
Right then, I noticed that Amber's ship was moving again and it flew directly towards our ship, presumably being controlled by Amber's power.
A notification for a call came from my Codex and I realised it was Amber as her very satisfied face appeared on the screen in front of me.
"How was that, Tera? I told you I could handle it!"
"You were awesome, so cool~ So hot~ I love you so much~" I praised her unabashedly.
She actually blushed and hid her face from view, "Ah… Ah… I get it, I get it… Ahhh… Now I feel hot…"
As usual, she's weak when she's the one on the receiving end, huh?
Well, she did recover quickly as she looked up again, "Ah! I'm moving my ship to the hangar, Tera. Could you open the doors for me? Also, do you want me to push the ship?"
I flicked the controls to open the hangar bay doors before raising an eyebrow at her, "Push the ship?"
She nodded, "The ship's currently stuck, right? I can go out and push the ship out of the area so that our engines can work again."
"Wait, you're being serious? You want to go out and push… Oh wait, zero gravity… Right… I suppose it's better than just sitting here and waiting for our ship to get out of range naturally. Get your ship back into the hangar first and I'll leave the doors open for you."
She gave me a cute salute, "I'm on it, Tera!"
She ended the call and I watched as she carefully brought her ship up into the hangar bay and locked it onto the clamps.
Normally the hangar bay doors would close and the room would be pressurised but I kept the door open for Amber instead.
The cockpit of her ship opened up and my blonde haired lover floated out of her ship before flying out through the hangar bay doors.
Just in case, I decided to call up Ries to see if she made any progress with the engines.
"Ries?"
"Boss… Err… I don't know what to tell you but… It doesn't really make any sense… It's like the engines were put in stasis or something. There's nothing wrong with them, they just don't work, that's all…"
"How does that even make sense?"
"It doesn't… And it shouldn't… But these are Leviathans we're talking about after all so I guess in a way, it does make sense."
"Well… Amber's going out to push the ship from the outside so that we can get out of the zone. Do you want to come back?"
"Umm… I'll just stay here for now in case something happens to the engines."
"Fair enough. Let me know if anything happens."
I ended the call and I felt the ship shift suddenly.
Looking at the screens once more, I found a small fireball pushing against the top of our ship, redirecting the direction of our travel downwards.
She continued pushing our ship for a while before I saw the indicator for our engines come back online though they weren't activated yet.
I sent a message to Amber to let her know we were in the clear and she must have seen it because she immediately stopped pushing and flew back into the hangar, allowing me to close it up.
I then turned the engines back online and flew ourselves out of there, keeping my eye on the map to make sure we don't accidentally enter the range of that Leviathan's effect again.
Only after we were at a significant distance away from the Leviathans did I allow myself to relax back into the chair I was sitting on.
"Good work, Captain," Mara whispered, appearing by my side.
I guess she could tell I was stressed out from the flight despite the entire chase only lasting for a short while at most.
"Thanks, Mara. But everyone worked well. I wouldn't have been able to do any of this without your help."
Lea turned to me, "That's not true, Mistress… If you weren't here, we would not have been able to coordinate as well as we had."
I know she was just trying to comfort me so I just shot her a reassuring smile. That's because…
The door slid open and the MVP of this stepped in while stretching her arms overhead.
"Ahhhh~ It's been a while since I've used my powers that much. I feel like I might be losing my touch," Amber groaned.
I got up from my chair and went over to her, surprising her with a big hug and causing my lover to let out a really cute "Eeep!" when I did so.
"Te… Tera? Umm… What's wrong?"
I giggled and gave her a kiss on the lips, "Mmm… Nothing… I'm just falling in love with you all over again after seeing you being all cool like that."
She hid her face with her hands, "Ahh… Ahh… No, don't say that. You're making me blush…"
Ehehehe~ So cute~
I gave her another kiss before looking out into space where we were now parked as we waited for the fight between the two Leviathans to conclude.
By the looks of it, it might take a while since they seem to be at a stalemate as neither side could get an advantage over the other while still being determined to kill each other.
Well… Since we have time…
I picked up Amber in my arms and brought her over to the map terminal, laying her on top of it on her back.
She looked up at me in surprise and my only response was to grin down at her as I popped my top open.
Hey, sometimes I have to take the lead, you know? Especially after one of my lovers just risked their life for me!
