Chapter 27: Chapter 27: The Faceless One
The sea voyage was both long and monotonous, but the fleet of the Vaelarys family was large enough, and the winds were favorable, making the journey fast-paced.
However, this also left Draezell with a profound sense of helplessness.
Rey's little dragon, "Shadowmare," was growing rapidly. In just two months, it had already grown to the size of a calf, and its appetite was astonishing. In addition to the cattle and sheep provided by the supply ships, Shadowmare had also sneaked some of the sea creatures and whale meat caught by Vermithor and Silverwing.
Of course, calling it "sneaking" wasn't quite right. For some unknown reason, vermithor and Silverwing were very close to Nightmare, with Silverwing even sharing the large fish it caught with the hungry dragon.
Maester Visari, who had joined with the second batch of ships, believed that Silverwing might have adopted Nightmare as its own child, but there was no evidence to support this theory.
Valar had gone to the leading vanguard ship to train with the others, leaving Draezell and a few close attendants on the flagship. The golden-eyed Hoffa, also now known as Hoffa Lawkewpeer(after the name of his spead)—was polishing his spear. Sebastian was quietly reading, and Lynn Valtaken was practicing swordplay on the deck.
Draezell had finished inventorying the spoils from the Valyrian ruins, and after reuniting with the second fleet, a major division of spoils had taken place within the family.
The family sword, "Silverblood," naturally returned to Draezell and now hung quietly on the wall of the luxurious captain's quarters. Emperor Aelon's Valyrian steel scale armor, "Dragonknight," was also displayed here. After leaving the ruins, Draezell had used blood magic to cleanse all the weapons and armor, revealing their appearance from centuries ago. This set of armor, known as "Dragonknight," had each dragon-scale-shaped armor plate intricately engraved with runes. The shoulder pieces were crafted in the shape of dragon heads, while the spiked helmet featured dragon wings extending upward on each side, culminating in a grand dragon sculpture on the forehead.
Next to the armor lay Emperor Aelon's cavalry spear, "Ashsnake." This oddly shaped spear was designed for use on the back of a dragon, and Draezell had tried wielding it on vermithor's back, though he struggled to handle it properly. Perhaps it was more suited for use on horseback rather than on a dragon.
The "Black Widow" had been passed on to Valar, along with a Valyrian steel spear, "Heartcrusher," and a set of Valyrian chainmail armor "Silver Shield," which featured a helmet adorned with a soaring dragon.
Rey received the Valyrian steel dagger sword, "Blood Tear," and a set of Valyrian steel scale armor, "Starry Sky."
Lynn Valtaken had gained the sword "Griffin's Heart," engraved with griffin designs, as well as a smooth, mirror-like black plate armor known as "Black Mirror."
Sebastian received the flame-shaped sword, and with great joy, he named it "Flame Robbery," using it to represent his family.
Hoffa also claimed his spoils: a Valyrian steel spear named "The Justicer." Argo, meanwhile, happily accepted his Arak curved blade, "Moon Singer." Yamor, who had quietly watched over Draezell, received the repaired moon-blade halberd, "Guillotine." Amos Fezer took possession of a Valyrian steel greatsword, "Steel Flame," obtained after the dragon-taming journey, while Aslan Rondell claimed a long sword adorned with rubies, "Lion King."
The remaining spoils were kept by Draezell.
There were still four longswords, one stiletto, one hand-and-a-half sword, two greatswords, and two sets of armor.
Draezell set down the book in his hands, quietly watching the man who entered the captain's quarters.
"Master, I've come to change your wine," the man said, skillfully placing the new wine on the table.
"No need to hide your identity in front of me, Servant of the Faceless God," Draezell said, recognizing the thick shadow surrounding the man, as if countless faces silently watched the outside world within the shadow.
"Apologies, my skills are not yet perfected, and I must have made a fool of myself," the man's face contorted, eventually settling into that of an ordinary young man.
"You have some sincerity," Draezell said, surprised as he looked at the Faceless Man across from him. The man had truly removed the illusion magic from his appearance.
"It seems you're not here to assassinate me. Let's have a drink," Draezell gestured for the young man to help himself. The young man did so without hesitation, pouring a glass of wine and downing it in one gulp. "No wonder this silver wine is famous across the continent, it's truly rich and fragrant."
"Now, tell me why you're here," Draezell said.
"The prophecy of the Faceless God," the young man replied. "Someone needs to serve until death."
"Why?"
"No reason, the God said so, so I must do it."
"Oh?"
"The God has severed ties with Someone," the Faceless Man said. "I have also drunk the wine you mixed with blood."
"The Faceless God is quite generous."
"The God is simply paying the debt," the Faceless Man said. "The name used by the one who walks the mortal world is Kungor Potter. He will offer you loyalty and death."
Draezell nodded.
"And there is news from the west," Kungor said, lifting his head. "The emissaries of the Iron Throne have arrived in Pentos. They wish to speak with you directly."
"They've finally arrived."
Draezell thought to himself.
