Warhammer: Saiyan Adopted by the Wolf King

Chapter 59: Chapter 59: The Space Wolves’ Secret

Axis smiled, paying no attention to Kasha, whose face had darkened with anger.

This girl wasn't exactly young, but she wasn't old either.

Sometimes she seemed mature, yet at other times, she was downright willful!

Her status must be quite high, right?

Could she be a special psyker secretly raised by the Emperor since childhood?

Looks like, when there's time, he needed to find out exactly what these "Awakened ones" were all about.

The search-and-rescue operation continued.

Under the large-scale efforts of the Imperial Army, all the surviving Astartes of the Second Legion were soon rescued.

Upon learning that their father had broken free of the Rangda control, the survivors' spirits lifted, even though the Second Legion had suffered catastrophic losses, at least their primarch was still alive.

Altogether, the number of survivors barely exceeded eight hundred.

Out of a legion that once numbered in the tens of thousands, only just over eight hundred remained.

Axis found this acceptable, add another two hundred and you'd have the equivalent of a standard Chapter in later times.

Once these loyalist Astartes were thoroughly checked and cleared, they were immediately sent aboard ships to return for treatment.

"This planet is safe for now. Let's head back to the ship and discuss what to do next." With that, Axis and Russ returned to their previous landing craft, not even bothering to bring along his sixteen Custodian bodyguards.

They simply left them behind.

Truth be told, Axis didn't fully trust these Custodians, even though they would follow his orders.

Every Space Marine Legion had its secrets, some more than others.

The Space Marines would guard these secrets with their lives for their primarchs, sometimes even keeping them from the Emperor himself.

But with the Custodians, things were different.

Their loyalty was to the Emperor alone.

As for the Saibamen, Axis had no intention of letting anyone else know about them for now.

Kasha just curled her lip, snorted, and turned to leave.

Axis and Russ were definitely hiding something.

That brat didn't trust her at all!

Was it because she'd tried to ask for his seed not long ago?

Back on the Gloriana-class battleship Hrafnkel, Axis stashed the two Saibamen away in a secret room and told them not to come out.

"Axis, my little cub, you really do know how to surprise me.

"Sigh! I owe you this time," Russ said.

He was in excellent spirits.

After all, he no longer had to kill a brother with his own hands, even if the latter had lost his memory.

So long as he was returned to Holy Terra, with a primarch's abilities, he'd be back to normal in a few years.

Axis just nodded.

The only downside was that the second primarch he'd rescued could almost never recover his memories.

After all, two-thirds of his brain had been destroyed by those neural control devices, especially the areas that stored memories.

All he had left was some basic common knowledge, everything else about his past was completely and utterly erased.

Right now, the second primarch was like a blank slate.

But for the Emperor, this might be the best possible outcome, a chance to raise a primarch who was as pure and untainted as a blank sheet of paper.

"Do we still need to issue an Exterminatus on the nearby planets?" Axis asked.

"No, the nearby worlds don't need an Exterminatus anymore. There's nothing left that needs to be kept secret," Russ replied, "This war only cost us the population of a single planet. As long as we transfer some colonists from other sectors, this world will come back to life in no time."

The Imperium was expanding at an astonishing rate.

Compared to twenty-some years ago, when the Emperor first found him, its territory had grown over twentyfold, and it was still expanding geometrically.

With twenty Astartes Legions and billions of Imperial fleet personnel pressing forward, lost human worlds were being reclaimed one by one.

Every day, dozens of Imperial planets were brought back into the fold, stamped with the mark of the Imperium once more.

In just these twenty years, Russ had recovered at least a hundred Imperial worlds.

Right now, the one thing the Imperium was not short on was ordinary civilians.

"This planet still needs to be well-defended, the Rangda won't just give up," Axis said.

The fledgling Imperium had already fought three major wars with the Rangda, conflicts that spanned the entire Great Crusade.

In the original timeline;

The first time, it was the Dark Angels who faced them alongside the second legion.

The 5,000-strong army of the Dark Angels was nearly wiped out, and a Primarch was captured.

The second war broke out after the Lion's return.

The third Rangda war nearly drove the entire Imperium to the brink of extinction.

In the end, the Emperor himself traveled to Mars, 'breaking the Labyrinth of Night', and only then did they manage to turn the tide and defeat the Rangda.

Most Warhammer fans before his transmigration guessed that what the emperor brough out of the labyrinth was a shard of the Void Dragon.

It was only after the Emperor unleashed this shard that the Rangda were finally defeated.

Now, the first campaign against the Rangda had just ended.

Once the Lion, Lion El'Jonson, returned, the second war would break out, a war that would result in the erasure of the Eleventh Primarch.

The current year was 843.M30.

Three years ago, the Emperor had discovered Magnus's world, Prospero, and the mighty sorcerer had rejoined the Imperium.

The Great Angel Sanguinius would also return to the Imperium within the year.

There were still three years to go before the Lion's return, and the second Rangda war would erupt within the next decade or so.

Axis was actually looking forward to facing the Rangda in battle.

"These matters aren't really our concern. Terra will send further instructions about the defense and rebuilding of this world," Russ said, "Axis, I'd like to have your sixteen Custodian guards escort the second Primarch back to Terra. What do you think?"

Truthfully, what Russ really wanted was to send those sixteen Custodians away.

He wanted them to escort the second Primarch straight to Terra and be rid of them.

After all, unlike Axis, his own wolf cub raised since childhood, these Custodians wouldn't keep secrets for the Space Wolves.

Having a dozen or so Custodians around was really inconvenient, especially since his children had their share of issues with them.

For instance, any one of them could turn into a Wulfen at any moment.

And for this reason, the Emperor might well choose to erase the entire Legion.

"I can send them back. Escorting a Primarch is absolutely the Custodians' duty," Axis agreed.

"Hahaha! That's my cub, alright." Russ laughed, but in an instant, his expression morphed into seriousness.

"Today, I'm going to tell you something. Something you cannot reveal to anyone outside the Space Wolves. This is the Space Wolves' greatest secret."

Russ looked at Axis meaningfully.

Axis nodded, signaling Russ to go on.

"My gene-seed has a major flaw. After intense battle, my sons may transform into Wulfen.

"There are no real wolves on Fenris."
