Chapter 132: Chapter 133: Is This Really a Rogue Trader's Fleet?
Chapter 133: Is This Really a Rogue Trader's Fleet?
"By the God-Emperor, how did we attract so many Orks this time?"
Larrius mentally calculated the odds. Destroying this Ork fleet would undoubtedly come at a grievous cost, but this battle was now unavoidable.
And this time, the Orks' fleet had some new changes.
A large asteroid floated leisurely behind the scrap-ships.
On the Imperium's augur arrays, it was just a slightly larger asteroid, something not lacking in the void. But compared to a conventional warship, it was much, much larger.
However, if one were to get closer, they would discover that this asteroid seemed to have been hollowed out.
At its rear, a full five large and crude propulsion units were making the asteroid move along with the Ork fleet.
A large number of Ork Boyz and Mekboyz were active inside this asteroid.
This group of Orks had actually converted this asteroid into an unconventional warship. Although it was nothing compared to the ultra-WAAAGH! Attack Moon, the asteroid's own mass made it a sturdy fighting machine.
And the Orks hadn't mounted any weapons on it. Instead, countless pieces of scrap metal were piled on top, strengthening its defenses.
All they wanted was to ram Port Wander with this giant asteroid, using its speed and mass to directly destroy the void station's defenses.
The Ork fleet drew closer and closer.
And as they approached, the Navy personnel of Port Wander finally discovered the anomaly of this asteroid through their augur arrays.
Upon learning that this asteroid had been modified by the Orks, Larrius immediately realized the severity of the problem.
Although he was often joked about by his Navy colleagues for being "exiled" to this godforsaken place, it didn't mean he was an incompetent fool.
"Have the fleet sally forth! Prioritize destroying that planetoid! Those Greenskins want to ram Port Wander!"
Faced with this situation, the Imperial warships had no choice but to actively engage.
And the Orks who saw this scene were excited!
The warships, not yet fully repaired, were forced into a brutal fleet battle with the Orks' scrap-ships.
Ork-style space torpedoes, carrying several Mekboyz, launched suicidal charges towards the Imperial warships.
Zzap Guns, the Ork version of lances, fired towards the human fleet. And their solid-shot cannons, with calibers larger than Imperial macro-cannons, would kill a considerable number of Greenskins on their own ships with the shock of each firing.
These seemingly unreliable cannons were in no way inferior in power to those of the Imperial warships.
Many of the weapons on these ships had been modified after being salvaged from captured human vessels.
Larrius watched the battlefield nervously. The plan to destroy the planetoid had failed.
The planetoid's incredibly thick armor plating withstood the damage. And having gotten this close, even if Port Wander's fixed defenses could destroy it, the scattered fragments would be enough to cause terrifying damage to Port Wander.
But it was still better than a direct impact!
"All fixed batteries, concentrate fire on that asteroid!"
Plasma, lances, and even the fixed, large-caliber macro-cannons all opened fire simultaneously.
Under the saturation bombardment, the asteroid began to break apart.
Countless asteroid fragments rained down on various districts of Port Wander.
The Orks did not panic at the destruction of this giant rock; instead, they roared with excitement.
A large number of defensive installations were destroyed by these meteor fragments. And the impact of the fragments also struck various facilities and districts within Port Wander, hitting them like one cannonball after another.
The casualties caused by these fragments were even greater than those from the Ork warships themselves.
At this moment, Port Wander was filled with cries for help and wails of agony.
In some districts, the gravity facilities were destroyed, and countless civilians were vented out into the void from the breaches.
Even the central citadel where Larrius was located was also hit by the planetary fragments.
And the Orks, seeing their plan had succeeded, became even more excited. They tanked the incoming fire and began their assault on Port Wander. With a large number of fixed batteries destroyed by the fragments, the Orks now had their chance.
The Orks began to board Port Wander. A large number of Ork Boyz in crude drop pods smashed into the breaches created by the asteroid fragments, shouting "Waaagh!" as they charged towards any human in sight.
Within Port Wander, the Imperial defensive forces were not numerous. Originally, Port Wander would have had a large number of merchants and the guards and mercenaries they employed.
The equipment of these mercenaries was even better than that of the Imperial Navy. But as the situation in Port Wander grew increasingly dire, those merchants had long since begun to transfer their assets and flee.
This left Port Wander's defensive forces unprecedentedly weak. Faced with the Ork assault, for a time they were unable to stop them!
"Assemble the troops! We must clear out these Orks! For the God-Emperor! For the Imperium!"
Larrius began to mobilize all available forces.
However, whether in the void fleet battle or the fighting inside Port Wander, the humans were at a disadvantage.
"Admiral! Another fleet has just come out of 'The Maw'!"
Larrius hurriedly looked at the augur array.
And when he saw the scale of this fleet, he was taken aback.
Dozens of warships, in a disciplined battle formation, were heading towards Port Wander.
And for him, the most important thing was that these warships belonged to the human side.
The dazzling golden Aquila shone brightly in the void, and the ships also bore the insignia of different Rogue Trader Dynasties.
A fleet of this scale could hold its own even within a full sector.
"Rogue Traders? Are those the Rogue Trader Dynasties? God-Emperor Above…"
Larrius had originally thought that the so-called support from the Expanse would be a small number of warships at most, with more supplies. But he had never expected it to be such a massive fleet.
No one had ever taken the support from the Expanse seriously before.
Was the wealth in the Expanse that absurd? And what was the deal with that giant warship?
Rogue Traders were also frequent visitors to Port Wander; Larrius had seen countless of them. But everything before him now had already exceeded his understanding.
The main cannon of the Stellar Pioneer fired.
The energy beam instantly struck an Ork scrap-ship, seeming to vaporize it.
Then, the remaining warships began to accelerate and assault.
Squadrons of Viking fighters flew out from the hangars. The Orks discovered that countless missiles were suddenly shooting towards them from the void, yet they couldn't see the enemy's presence.
Special armor-piercing warheads breached the scrap-ships' armor and detonated inside.
With the technology cracked, the cloaking field of the Banshees had also been applied to the Vikings. As long as a Viking didn't transform, it could maintain a state of invisibility.
Some Vikings even landed directly on the hulls of the scrap-ships, transformed into walker mode, and began to pour ammunition into the Orks with their two heavy Gatling cannons.
The overwhelming firepower destroyed one scrap-ship after another. And the Stellar Pioneer also began to approach Port Wander.
The drop pods within the warship began to drop soldiers onto Port Wander.
Larrius, in his command room, watched the screen before him, his mouth agape.
The luxurious configuration of troops all clad in combat suits displayed astonishing combat effectiveness.
Ceramite was no longer the standard for the Raiders; the nano-material discovered on the Stellar Pioneer was lighter and more durable.
And some special soldiers also attracted Larrius's attention.
These warriors were even taller than Astartes, and the combat effectiveness displayed by individuals, how did it look even stronger than that of a Space Marine?
The one in the lead actually tore an Ork Warlord apart with a chainsaw weapon?
These soldiers were precisely the Night Sentinels. The ranks of the Night Sentinels had been continuously developing over the past two years, their numbers now reaching 100.
Lucan had invested most of the Psy-crystals obtained from clearing out xenos and heretics over the past two years into this unit.
And through continuous combat, the fighting strength of this unit had already become terrifying.
And this was not what Larrius found most incredible.
A Rogue Trader, under the escort of soldiers, was walking towards his command post.
But behind this Rogue Trader, how were there also people from the Ecclesiarchy and the Inquisition?
The attire of the Ecclesiarchy personnel looked like that of a Cardinal, and the Inquisitor's attire was even that of a High Inquisitor.
This positioning was not right… Shouldn't the Rogue Trader be walking behind them?
And these two even appeared unusually respectful towards that Rogue Trader.
