Chapter 98: Chapter 98: The Fall of the Four Knights
Trapped in the Rift Plane, the Black Knight could no longer receive help from the White Knight. Facing the incoming energy swords, he swung his fist violently, attempting to destroy them.
However, the energy swords released by Marcus's Javelin possessed power far beyond the Knight's imagination.
Though they couldn't slice through his body as easily as they had the others, they weren't simple to deflect either. Despite his tremendous strength, the Black Knight couldn't block Marcus's energy swords with brute force alone.
An entire arm was pierced by one energy sword. More followed in rapid succession, targeting his head, heart, and other vital points.
Schick! Schick! Schick!
As an energy sword pierced his head, the mighty Black Knight finally fell.
Taking no chances, Marcus released one final energy blade that split the Black Knight's body in two.
Now only the White Knight and Apocalypse remained, and panic began to set in. In mere minutes, Marcus had systematically eliminated three knights.
His attention had clearly shifted to them, and they knew they needed to be on guard.
Marcus, still in the Rift Plane, didn't return to the material world. Instead, he rushed directly toward the White Knight with her powerful psychic abilities.
Seeing the warrior wielding the energy sword charging toward her, the White Knight raised her hand and unleashed her telekinetic power.
The surrounding sand and stone rapidly coalesced, forming a giant hand that reached for Marcus.
But how could anything from the material plane touch Marcus in the Rift Plane? Instead, the giant hand merely served as a platform, allowing him to leap higher and rush toward the White Knight in a streak of sword light.
Seeing her attack had no effect, the White Knight immediately flew skyward, heading toward Apocalypse.
She knew she stood no chance against this strange warrior. Even her mental powers had no effect on him while he remained in that parallel dimension. She was like a lamb awaiting slaughter, with her only hope being her master's protection.
Apocalypse still valued this last knight. She had been the subordinate who remained by his side until he was completely safe during the last rebellion.
Such loyalty was rare, and he wouldn't abandon her.
The cyan energy from the pyramid gathered in his scepter. In an instant, it transformed into several beam-thick rays that shot toward Marcus.
Apocalypse found it perplexing that this rhino-horned warrior possessed such strange powers. No matter how they attacked, they couldn't seem to touch him.
This was completely different from their earlier encounters. The stark contrast left Apocalypse confused—his opponent was as unpredictable as the energy that had revived him.
The beams of light passed through Marcus without causing any damage. They couldn't even slow his advance.
Apocalypse had anticipated this outcome. He showed no surprise when his attack failed to stop Marcus.
With a wave of his hand, he released two orbs of cyan energy that expanded into a shield, enveloping both himself and the White Knight.
"Attack the moment he strikes!" Apocalypse commanded.
He had identified a pattern in their exchanges. When Marcus wasn't attacking, he couldn't be harmed. But once he launched an offensive, he briefly emerged from his strange state. That was their best opportunity to counter.
Heeding her master's advice, the White Knight, now surrounded by the blue shield, watched Marcus's approach carefully, ready to strike at any moment.
Seeing the White Knight's renewed confidence behind the blue shield, Marcus let out a cold snort. The Exalted Sword in his hand began to glow brighter.
Swoosh!
The moment he stepped out of the Rift Plane, Marcus swung his blade, releasing a devastating energy blade that shot toward the White Knight.
The White Knight activated her mental powers as Marcus attacked, launching two telekinetic assaults.
First, she attempted to twist Marcus's body with her mind. Unfortunately, though her psychic power was formidable, she couldn't manipulate Excalibur's armored form. This first attack failed completely.
Her second attack called upon the surrounding boulders. Countless rocks flew in from all directions. Under her control, Marcus was forced into the center as the boulders closed in. With a clench of her fists, the boulders compressed tightly together, becoming increasingly compact.
BOOM!!!
The compressing boulder prison suddenly exploded as a massive energy blade burst outward. It sliced the boulders into pieces and continued toward the White Knight.
The energy blade moved so quickly that the White Knight had no time to evade. It split her instantly in two, her halves falling separately to the ground.
Marcus himself had vanished. There was no sign of him behind the energy blade—it was as if he had been torn apart along with the boulders.
In reality, that wasn't far from the truth. The White Knight's telekinetically controlled boulders had tried to crush Marcus, continuously merging and compressing.
The increasingly dense stone forced Marcus to gather all his strength, cutting through the prison like he had cut through the pyramid earlier.
He fell alongside the boulder fragments, the energy of his Warframe momentarily depleted from the enormous effort. Fortunately, his energy recovered quickly, fully replenishing by the time he was halfway to the ground.
"KILL!!!"
The fall of his last knight sent Apocalypse into a rage. He drew more cyan energy from the pyramid and released countless light beams.
The shattered boulders were engulfed in beams of light, completely disintegrating before they hit the ground.
"Nice attack, but you missed," Marcus's voice came from behind Apocalypse.
The Exalted Sword and Energy Blade struck from behind.
Clang!
Apocalypse whirled around, swinging his scepter. Cyan energy transformed the scepter into a glowing sword that blocked both the Energy Blade and Exalted Sword.
The cyan energy around him intensified, forming a shield that blocked the subsequent energy attacks.
"Heh~"
Marcus laughed mockingly, gripping the Exalted Sword and Energy Blade tightly as he launched continuous attacks against Apocalypse.
Each strike diminished the cyan shield's brightness. The protective energy was consumed rapidly with every exchange of blows.
Seeing his shield weakening, Apocalypse activated the scepter's power. A cyan beam shot toward Marcus.
Simultaneously, the cyan energy from the pyramid surged even more intensely, concentrating at the top of the spire. It formed into a beam wider than a person and fired directly at Marcus.
Faced with this overwhelming attack, Marcus slashed once to deflect the smaller beam, then instantly transformed into Titania, shrinking to butterfly size before darting away.
The massive cyan beam struck the ground behind him. On impact, it caused a violent explosion. When the smoke cleared, only a bubbling pool of lava remained.
The failed attack didn't discourage Apocalypse. He had already spotted Marcus's new form—a swarm of metallic butterflies gleaming in the sunlight.
He directed two beams of different sizes at the swarm, determined to obliterate them completely.
Though the Razorwing butterflies moved with incredible speed, many were caught and vaporized by the wide-ranging attack.
But Apocalypse still couldn't locate Marcus himself within the swarm. He could only continue his assault, destroying the razor-winged butterflies surrounding him one by one.
