Chapter 67: Chapter 67: Bruce's Trace

After reading the letter, energy surged along Marcus's arm, gradually transforming it into Titania's distinctive form. A razor butterfly, its body covered with sharp blades, landed delicately on his fingertip.

"Go find any trace of Bruce."

As he spoke, the razor butterfly fluttered its wings and launched from his fingertip.

Surrounding this mechanical scout, numerous blue energy butterflies materialized, accompanying the razor butterfly as they departed.

After dispatching his scouts, Marcus also left Wayne Manor. In a flash of light, he shrank to butterfly size and flew at incredible speed toward the center of Gotham.

Bruce had been cautious, deliberately omitting their hiding place from his letter to prevent assassins from discovering their location if the message was intercepted.

This prudence, however, complicated Marcus's search. Gotham was vast, making it difficult to quickly pinpoint Bruce's exact location.

The razor butterflies he'd sent had already scattered throughout Gotham, searching for any sign of Bruce and Selina.

Meanwhile, Marcus patrolled the city, hunting for the assassins pursuing Bruce.

According to Bruce's letter, the killers were lingering near the police station, waiting for their targets to walk into their trap.

After hovering above the police station and observing for some time, Marcus confirmed that several individuals were indeed stationed nearby. They moved only to exchange positions with one another. Had he not watched carefully, he might never have noticed this pattern.

"It seems Bruce is still safe."

This realization provided some relief. These suspiciously behaving individuals were definitely the assassins hunting Bruce. Since they remained in position, Bruce must still be evading capture.

Shortly after this thought, Marcus noticed a sudden change—the assassins' expressions shifted simultaneously, and they evacuated the police station vicinity without leaving a trace.

"What? Are Bruce and Selina in trouble?"

This evacuation was alarming. If Marcus hadn't already identified many of them as killers, their departure would have gone completely unnoticed.

At that moment, an energy butterfly drew a blue streak across the air, instantly returning to Marcus's side, flying back and forth before him in an agitated pattern.

"You've found them?"

Marcus frowned. If only energy butterflies had returned, he wouldn't be overly concerned. But with all the assassins abandoning their police station stakeout simultaneously, Bruce and Selina's position must have been compromised. The razor butterflies would only have discovered them after their cover was blown.

"Lead the way!"

At his command, the energy butterfly transformed into a blue streak again, speeding toward the location of the razor butterflies.

Simultaneously, the scattered razor butterflies elsewhere seemed to receive a signal, each flying toward Marcus with their respective swarms.

...

In a dark alley, Bruce and Selina ran for their lives. Occasionally, Bruce would throw a kunai from his dwindling supply to drive back their pursuers.

The kunai he now carried had been sharpened. When striking an assassin, they embedded themselves deeply.

"Cat, I'm almost out of kunai. Find us an escape route!"

The kunai box at Bruce's waist had nearly emptied. He'd used almost every blade to keep the killers at bay.

"Wait!"

Selina scanned their surroundings, searching desperately for an escape path.

Their luck had been abysmal. They had originally planned to exchange some of Bruce's valuables for money, but the underground fence they approached had betrayed them to the assassins, attempting to sell them as merchandise.

"This way!"

Selina pulled Bruce toward another alley, but they hadn't gone far before suddenly stopping and quickly retreating, hiding in a dilapidated shack at the corner.

Three powerfully built men dressed identically to their pursuers had appeared along Selina's chosen escape route.

"We're trapped..."

Their situation was dire. Even if these men hadn't been armed with guns, Bruce and Selina couldn't easily overcome them—they were just teenagers facing trained killers.

"We may not escape this," Bruce said, drawing his rapier and positioning himself protectively in front of Selina. "Selina, thank you for everything."

Facing what seemed like certain death, Bruce refused to surrender. He would consider it worthwhile if he could take down even one assassin before falling.

Selina gripped a kunai in one hand and a drug-tipped needle in the other, staring determinedly outside the shack.

"I won't wait passively for death. If there's any chance to escape, I'll take it!"

Tap, tap, tap...

The sound of leather shoes striking pavement echoed through the alley. The killers had surrounded their position. Unless Bruce and Selina possessed supernatural abilities, escaping this encirclement seemed impossible.

The footsteps drew ever closer, causing both teenagers to tighten their grip on their weapons.

Suddenly, a dark figure appeared before the shack, and the two immediately lunged toward it.

Swish~

Bruce's rapier pierced the figure, blood flowing steadily from the wound.

"Argh!!!"

The stabbed assassin screamed, kicking Bruce away while covering his abdominal wound with one hand. With his other hand, he raised a pistol, attempting to shoot the youths.

But Selina's attack followed Bruce's by mere milliseconds. Though the assassin had kicked Bruce aside, Selina remained unaffected.

Her kunai and needle simultaneously pierced the killer's body. The sharp kunai tore a deep gash along his arm, while the needle drove directly into his chest.

The needle carried the drug Marcus had described as "elephant tranquilizer." Even with the assassin's superior physique, he couldn't withstand its effects.

After just a few seconds, he collapsed.

However, their brief struggle had alerted the other killers, who rushed toward the shack, training their weapons on it.

Whoosh~

A blue light streaked through several assassins, its form briefly illuminated in the dim light.

A butterfly—a metal butterfly with razor-sharp blades covering its body!

Its wings now bore traces of blood—the assassins' blood.

The razor butterfly landed on the shack and fluttered its wings before becoming still. Meanwhile, the assassins' guns clattered to the ground, their wrists suddenly spurting blood.

Had their arm bones not been sufficiently thick, their hands might have been severed completely by the butterfly's wings. Even so, blood gushed freely from their deep lacerations.

This scene astonished the two children. They had witnessed only a blue flash before the assassins' weapons fell and their wrists began streaming blood.

"Now's our chance!"

Though they didn't understand what had happened, they recognized the opportunity to escape.

The two rushed from the shack. As they prepared to flee, they saw a massive wave of shimmering butterflies flying toward them.

"So here you are."

Marcus emerged from the alley as the razor butterfly that had landed on the shack fluttered its wings and settled on his shoulder.

Seeing Marcus appear, Bruce broke into a relieved smile. Beside him, Selina visibly relaxed.

With this strange but powerful ally present, they no longer feared the assassins.

Marcus examined the two with a nod and smile. Their clothes were relatively clean, though he noted a footprint on Bruce's chest with mild disapproval.

At that moment, footsteps in the alley grew louder—more assassins were converging on their position.
