Chapter 18: 18.
Despite being one of the top cadets in the academy, she couldn't be recruited to the player's party. And she most definitely couldn't be romanced.
In fact, if the player tried to recruit her too many times and annoyed her too much, she'd just kill them — no hesitation, no emotion. Just a swift sword strike and it was Game Over.
Under normal circumstances, nobody would have been allowed to live like that.
Such willful behaviour would lead to expulsion or worse, but not for her.
Her grandfather was Principal Greyfax, and his fatal flaw was being too damn tolerant, especially for those deemed exceptionally talented.
Yuna simply ticked all the boxes
No matter how big the mess she made, he'd clean it up.
Despite knowing she was talented.
The lengths Yuna's talent was legendary and shrouded in mystery. Even during her duel with the protagonist, she only exchanged a few blows before forfeiting, citing "boredom."
After that, she disappeared from the story entirely. Even though her grandfather remained active, the player basically never heard from them again.
This was Yuna's true nature
Unpredictable and dangerous.
But unfortunately for Licht, she was now interested.
She was staring at him. Not out of affection, but more like a magpie eyeing a shiny new gem.
It was a childlike desire born of a strange sense of novelty.
Then —
She vanished.
In the second it took Licht to blink, Yuna vanished and appeared right underneath his nose, almost as if she were teleporting.
"You said I can't have your eyes, right?" she asked, tilting her head. "They can only stay in your sockets if you want them to be colorful."
Speed blitzed.
Without even meaning to, Yuna had completely blitzed Licht before he could react and entered lethal striking range.
He didn't even have time to think, so the thought of activating his treasured skill 「Infinite Copy Eyes (SSS)」 had never even occurred to him.
Thinking about the dark possibilities, Licht felt a layer of sweat forming on his back.
If Yuna had been an enemy and aimed for his head, Licht would already be sending his greeting card to Hades from 6 feet under.
Licht now took this moment as a reminder.
A reminder that, if he ever met an enemy, he must attack first — even if the enemy was showing no signs of aggression.
As Licht was having his moment of self-realisation,
Yuna was standing there, assessing him.
She eyed him, quietly gauging the cost of taking his eyes and ruining their brilliance, before finally sighing.
"Fine. You can keep your eyes. But under one condition."
As she said this, she leaned in towards Licht, placing her hand on his shoulder and briefly locking him in place.
"I get to look at them whenever I want."
Licht barely had time to breathe before the next notification hit.
Ding.
Your trait 「A Valtier's Pride (S)」 has been activated.
He frowned and looked her straight in the eye.
"I'm afraid that won't do. It would be too inconvenient for me to live like that. Change your conditions."
Yuna's expression soured.
As the granddaughter of the Eternal Spellblade, she had never been denied anything she wanted. Then again, she'd probably never truly wanted anything before now.
Still, she didn't consider herself a bad person.
The people around her might've thought otherwise, but Yuna, She thought she was a decent person, and decent people didn't force others against their will… right?
As for the thought that Licht could fight back and resist her?
Don't be funny — such a thing had never crossed her mind.
Other than her grandfather, no one had ever been able to stop her from taking something by force if she so wanted.
But now Yuna was faced with a problem that force couldn't resolve, and she was having some serious trouble.
Uuugghhh… too much thinking. It's getting boring now.
She'd just woken up from her fourth nap of the day, and now she was being forced to think.
No thanks.
For Yuna, life was that simple. If she wanted something, she'd go get it. And if it bothered her, she'd just give it up and throw it away.
Without another word, she flopped down on the desk nearby and gave up.
Letting go of something before she'd even gotten it was new to her. But whatever.
Thinking of how to properly handle this was too much work for now.
Seeing that she had dropped the issue — for now — Licht rose to leave. But Yuna stood up again just as he turned.
Once again, Licht sighed.
"You can't follow me around either. At least not now. I'm going to my dorm to rest."
As soon as Licht said this, he caught her attention.
Yuna didn't have many likes, but she had many dislikes. And if there was one thing Yuna hated the most, it was people who interrupted her sleep.
She could be many things in this world, but she would sooner die than become a sleep-disturbing demon.
Disappointed, Yuna flopped down onto the desk chair, finally giving up on bothering Licht — for now.
But as Licht left the room, something clicked in her mind. Suddenly alert, she grabbed her smartwatch and began to make a call.
The line rang a few times before a familiar, gruff voice answered.
"Well, well… if it isn't you. I'm surprised you still bother to call me."
Yuna winced. The tone alone told her he was really angry this time.
"I'm sorry, Grandpa… I really felt sick today."
Grant scoffed on the other end. He didn't say anything at first. His granddaughter rarely apologised — rarely cared enough to apologise. Hearing it now, sincere and quiet, it softened something in his heart.
But he hadn't forgotten the encounter he had had with the vicious Valtier cub. He'd been cheated by a youngster already today. And no matter how much he loved Yuna, he wasn't ready to let his guard down just yet.
Still, he listened to Yuna's words. He always listened.
"Grandpa… I need your help."
Grant didn't even pause for a second before he answered.
"All right. What is it?"
"…How do you take someone's eyes… not just taking them, but taking them without making them lose their charm?"
"What?"
Principal Greyfax's voice cracked. Standing up from his chair, his face went pale.
'Damn it… what sin has this girl committed this time?!'
