Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Curse Material
The moment Lu Jun saw the "Curse Material," he immediately thought of Mo Fan, who was now a mid-tier mage.
Although Mo Fan no longer had Tang Yue's free awakening assistance, he had accumulated some money through early hunting sessions with the high school city monster hunting team. A few days ago, he awakened the Shadow and Summoning elements and had even come to brag about it.
These two elements were extraordinary—key to Mo Fan's future power.
In the future, Mo Fan's mastery of the Shadow element would be elevated through the refinement of Dark Material: Nightbane, obtained from a killer hall assassin named "Craftsman," and through the integration of the Curse Material: Lash Curse Spirit from the Magic City Research Institute. These steps led him to the pinnacle of the Shadow element.
The mysterious, eerie, and unfathomable methods were awe-inspiring.
Curse Material belonged to the category of Dark Material, which was unique to all Dark Magic branches, including the Curse, Undead, Shadow, and Poison elements. Obtaining any one of these materials was enough to ensure the success of that element.
Looking at the Curse Pool before him, Lu Jun judged that the Curse Material contained within it was likely not as exaggerated as Mo Fan's Nightbane. However, it would be enough for his Curse element to dominate as a mid-tier mage.
Currently, Lu Jun's Water and Gold elements were already strong. Adding a formidable Curse element would allow him to clear the Pearl University "dungeon" with ease.
"Mazhoulong, the grand mage of Demon City, is too far away. Pearl University likely has professors capable of handling this. When the time comes, I'll commission them to refine it."
Lu Jun muttered to himself. He also thought of Bo City, which must have had its own Curse Pool. However, its level was far inferior to the one before him.
He then looked down at Yu Ang, whom he had been dragging along, and smiled. "I heard that the Black Vatican usually conducts its torture and interrogations right here."
Yu Ang's face turned paler and paler as Lu Jun's smile deepened. "In that case, I should test how tough your mouth is."
Splash!
The moment his words fell, Lu Jun shoved Yu Ang into the Curse Pool. The black, bubbling liquid began boiling. As it came into contact with human skin, it released an ominous, eerie aura that continuously corroded Yu Ang's body.
Yu Ang screamed in agony, feeling intense pain all over his body.
But Lu Jun wasn't finished. Ignoring Yu Ang's frantic struggle, he forced his head into the pool, his voice icy. "Who dares to negotiate with me?"
Muffled groans… bubbles rising…
Yu Ang, submerged in the Curse Pool, felt unbearable pain on his face as the burning sensation was accompanied by suffocation. Every second felt worse than death.
After a while, Lu Jun finally released his grip, allowing Yu Ang's head to surface for air. As Yu Ang gasped desperately, Lu Jun asked calmly, "So? Have you thought it through?"
"I… I…" Yu Ang stammered, trying to speak.
Before he could finish, Lu Jun's cold eyes flashed. The Vibrating Gold Greatsword in his hand transformed into a dagger, which he ruthlessly swung downward.
Slash!
Yu Ang's scream echoed as a finger was severed. Lu Jun said indifferently, "Too late."
AAAAHHH! Yu Ang wailed as the excruciating pain from his hand overwhelmed him.
Before he could recover, Lu Jun once again shoved his entire body into the Curse Pool. This time, he didn't stop at physical torment; he used mental attacks to strike Yu Ang's psyche. Both his body and mind were being tortured simultaneously.
Amidst the agony, Yu Ang had a fleeting thought: Who's the real Black Vatican here? This interrogation method is far too practiced.
Elsewhere, the battle between Lu Jun and the Black Vatican had already drawn the attention of the Magic City Tribunal.
In the pitch-black night, atop a tall building, a man with dark greenish-black hair stood alone. His hair, parted in the middle, clung to his sharply angled cheekbones. Paired with his pale face, he resembled an urban specter.
His eye sockets were slightly sunken, his pupils deep and emotionless. Dressed in a vintage-style tang suit that accentuated his slender frame, the most striking feature was the pair of eagle-like wings extending from his back.
The feathers, sharp and blade-like, had clear textures. The wings were currently folded but appeared robust and powerful.
"Night Hawk, report in. Have you located the target?"
"This is Night Hawk. Location confirmed."
"Industrial district, meat processing factory."
With that, the Tribunal's Night Hawk leaped from the rooftop, spreading his wings and soaring toward Lu Jun's location.
When he arrived, the aftermath of the battle resembled a scene washed by a flood.
Standing amidst the carnage was a tall, mature, and extraordinarily beautiful woman. The street was littered with corpses, some of them shriveled black creatures resembling monkeys. The air reeked of decay and sewage.
Lu Mei acknowledged the mysterious arrival with a nod, recognizing him as a Tribunal member, before turning and stepping onto a Wind Track to find her brother.
The trail was glaringly obvious, with several slaughterhouses along the way.
Night Hawk followed closely, flying above the streets. Passersby, curious to witness the chaos, dared not approach. The gruesome scene would leave even the boldest onlookers sleepless for nights.
"Tsk, tsk. They say this kid hasn't even entered university yet, and he's already this ruthless."
Night Hawk's tone carried admiration, though he was well aware that the higher-ups were both amazed and furious. Lu Jun's actions were far too brazen and lawless.
While most high-level mages exercised caution when killing, choosing to avoid public scrutiny, Lu Jun slaughtered in broad daylight, dragging bodies through the streets with no regard for subtlety.
And yet, there was little they could do. After all, Lu Jun was righteously fighting enemies.
Unsurprisingly, the videos of the incident caused an uproar online. While restrictions were imposed on general public access, magic forums and Pearl University's website weren't censored. After all, mages needed to face the reality of their world sooner or later.
As a result, Lu Jun's name went viral on the Pearl University forums.
Among incoming freshmen, he became a hot topic of discussion. Even though the academic year had yet to begin, many students had already joined chat groups to socialize. The videos circulated rapidly, with conversations buzzing non-stop.
Everyone admired Lu Jun, albeit with a tinge of fear. His reputation as a new student spread far and wide, bolstered by rumors that some of the Black Vatican members killed were fellow incoming students.
In these groups, Lu Jun earned the nickname "Lu the Butcher".
Senior students in the main and green campuses took note, especially after seeing the uncensored footage. Many were horrified, realizing they'd never seen such brutality.
Those preparing for senior-year rankings or struggling as freshmen began to memorize Lu Jun's appearance, mentally labeling him as someone to avoid provoking.
While others might respond to insults with a duel, Lu Jun's idea of "handling things" seemed to involve choosing your grave plot.
Even Pearl University's Dean Xiao observed the commotion with a knowing smile. This small shock was well-timed, serving as a wake-up call for students who lacked urgency in their training.
