Chapter 1: Nightmare
**Cynthia's Point of View**
As I sat on the couch in the dining room, I squinted at the papers in my hands. It was my grandma's will, and she had left everything she owned to me and my younger sister, Anna. However, the conditions were simply ridiculous, when she gave us half of it, we can only get some of her properties when we need money in an emergency.
"Does this mean we can't inherit anything until we're married?" I raised my head and stared at the lawyer, who wore a serious expression.
"Unfortunately, this was your grandma's wish, and it's her condition. If you and Miss Anna do not get married, all her wealth will go to the orphanage," he explained. I arched an eyebrow, skeptical; it felt like a prank.
Amanda smiled, her face lighting up with approval. "I think it's time you and Victor get married. I mean, that's the only way to save your business," she teased. I let out a sigh.
I loved Victor, and he loved me, but it felt too soon for marriage. He had proposed to me, and I turned him down because we had only been dating for a short time. Now, two months into our relationship, I wanted to marry him, but not just because I wanted to save my business from going bankrupt.
"You are welcome to call me once you've made your decision; I will take my leave for now," Mr. Peterson said. He got off the chair and left with his team.
I let out a deep breath. It had been a month since my grandma passed away. My parents died when Anna was just born, and I was only two years old at the time, so I don't even remember them. My grandmother raised us, but as she grew older, I took over the family business right after finishing my matriculation. I did everything I could to keep it going, but for the past few weeks, things hadn't been going well. If I don't receive money soon, the business might go bankrupt, and I could lose everything I've worked so hard for.
"Cynthia, you don't need to stress yourself over this," Amanda said. "Victor is your boyfriend; just tell him you are ready to get married. You will save your business and be with a man you love. You won't lose anything by marrying him."
I tensed up, my muscles tightening. "I guess you are right, but is he ready for marriage now since I turned him down last time?" I bit my lip, my teeth sinking into the soft flesh as I hesitated.
Amanda patted my shoulders. "Of course he is ready; he loves you, and you love him. Just get married, and everything will fall into place," she explained. I nodded.
Amanda has been my friend since we started high school. The first time we met, her life wasn't that great; her father was a drunkard who used to beat her mother when he was intoxicated, and her mother would then vent her anger on her. When I first met Amanda, she was filled with bitterness, but my grandmother took her in, and she started living with us. She is more like family to me and has been nothing but a good friend.
"I will talk to Victor, but please don't mention anything about why I'm getting married to him." I didn't want him to feel like I was using him. "I will tell him when the time is right."
"Your secret is safe with me," Amanda replied, and I smiled at her.
She rose from the couch. "I will see you in the evening; I'm going to meet my boyfriend," Amanda said. I raised my eyebrows as I stared at her.
"For how long are you going to keep your boyfriend a secret? Won't you even introduce him to me?" I questioned, throwing her a playful glare. She let out a chuckle.
"Don't worry; you will meet him very soon." Amanda winked at me with a knowing look, and with that, she left the house.
A week later
As I looked at my reflection in the mirror, I couldn't help but smile with joy. My smile stretched from ear to ear, and I felt like the luckiest person alive. The wedding dress hugged my curves perfectly, and I felt like a princess.
"Wow, I'm really getting married today!" I exclaimed, still amazed at how quickly everything had happened. Victor and I had met, fallen deeply in love, and now we were tying the knot. It might be because of my selfishness, but we loved each other. It all felt like a beautiful dream, the kind that sent butterflies fluttering in my stomach.
Just then, the door to the hotel room swung open, and my younger sister, Anna, walked in. Her face lit up with a radiant smile as she took in my appearance. "Oh my gosh, Cynthia! You look stunning!" she exclaimed. "I want to get married too if I will look this pretty."
Anna wasn't that much younger than me – only three years – but she still had a youthful energy that I adored. She walked over to me and wrapped her arms around me, and I playfully smacked her arm, making her giggle.
"Silly girl, you're still studying," I teased, looking at her reflection in the mirror. "Just focus on that for now."
Anna's smile faltered for a moment, and she whispered, "I wish Mom and Dad were here today."
I forced a bittersweet smile, feeling a pang of sadness. "They may not be here physically, but I know they're watching over us with smiles on their faces. They're wishing me all the best, wherever they are."
I giggled, trying to hold back tears. I knew Mom and Dad wouldn't want me to cry on my special day.
But the memories still lingered, vivid and painful. The day of the accident was etched in my mind like a scar. We were all happy, singing along to the music on the radio, laughing and giggling until our car fell off the cliffs. Dad could have survived, but he'd chosen to save Anna and me instead. Mom had died first, and Dad had followed soon after, leaving us alone and adrift.
Anna's voice cut through my thoughts, her tone firm but gentle. "Enough of the sad memories, Cynthia. Today is your special day. Let's dance!"
She wiped away her tears, scrolled through her phone, and played our favorite Ed Sheeran song, "Shivers." We laughed and swayed to the music, our bodies moving in perfect harmony with the rhythm.
As we danced, I felt a deep sense of gratitude toward Anna. She was my rock, my confidante, and my best friend.
Just then, the door to the hotel room swung open again, and Amanda walked in, a bright smile on her face. Anna and I stopped dancing, and I felt a surge of excitement and nervousness. It was time to get married.
"I swear Victor won't be able to take his eyes off you," Amanda teased, chuckling. I couldn't help but laugh nervously.
"Don't make her more nervous than she is already," Anna furrowed her brows, showing her dislike of Amanda. I really don't understand why she hates my friend so much. I brushed the thought off my mind.
"Come on, let's go, it's time. Your groom is waiting for you!" Amanda clapped her hands in excitement, ignoring Anna's comments.
Anna gently held my dress as the three of us started making our way out of the hotel room with Amanda walking beside me. I tried to take deep breaths, trying to calm my racing heart. I just couldn't, the excitement was too much to bear.
"Guys, please wait for me here, I need to use the bathroom," I blurted out. I just felt like I needed a moment alone to pull myself together. I don't know why I felt so nervous, like I was making a mistake.
I just wanted to compose myself and relax.
"Are you okay, Cynthia?" Anna's brows furrowed, her confusion evident.
"I'm fine," I chuckled nervously. "
I just need to use the bathroom, just wait for me here." I turned and ran back to the hotel room.
I usually listen to my instincts most of the time, and today they were telling me not to get married. But I loved Victor, and he loves me too. We loved each other, so why am I so nervous? Was it because I wanted to get married for my own selfish reasons that I hid from Victor?
I got lost in my thoughts that I didn't see a person coming my way until I bumped into him. I almost fell, but his strong arms held me steady, stopping me from falling.
I raised my head, and my eyes met his grey eyes. My heart skipped a beat, then took off like a runaway train, pounding in my chest like a drum. My gaze locked with his more than necessary, it felt like I couldn't look away, like there were some forces compelling me to keep gazing into those grey eyes.
"Watch where you are going, little lady," his voice was like dark chocolate, rich and smooth. My inner thoughts wanted to hear him say another word again, but I remembered that today I was getting married.
I moved out of his comforting embrace, took a few steps back. "Umm, I'm sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going," I stammered. I turned and was about to walk away, but his voice stopped me in my tracks.
"Don't marry him if you are not sure about him. You might end up regretting it." By the time I turned to him, he was already gone.
I knew Victor loved me, maybe I was just nervous because I've never been close to a man before. Maybe that's why I was so nervous.
I exhaled deeply, taking a few breaths. I closed my eyes, trying to calm myself, but unexpectedly, those grey eyes flashed in my head. I quickly opened my eyes. I decided not to go back to my room and just go to the aisle.
All my worries, thoughts, and anxiety disappeared right after I walked down the aisle. The moment felt magical as Victor's eyes met mine, my heart skipped a beat with each passing second. All I wanted was for him to become mine and me to become his.
The ceremony went smoothly, and I was overwhelmed with happiness when I signed the marriage certificate. Everything seemed too good to be true. I had never been this happy before, and I hoped this happiness would last a lifetime. I wanted a happy marriage with my husband and to provide my sister with everything she desired so we could all be happy.
The ringing of Victor's phone brought me back to reality, the two of us were seated on the backseat of the car as the driver drove to the villa. He brought his phone from his pocket and answered the call.
"Is everything ready?" His whole expression changed, it was dark like he was going to war, and I felt uneasy seeing his expression.
"Alright, I will be right there." He said before he hung up the call, he turned to me now smiling, the scary expression disappeared like it never existed.
"Is everything alright?" I asked, unable to contain my curiosity. Victor smiled, he held my hand into his as he placed a soft kiss on it.
"Don't you worry about my love, I'm planning a special surprise for you." He whispered, I rested my head on his chest, and he stroked my hair gently.
"I love you Victor, you have no idea how much I love you." I said, Victor let out a chuckle but he said nothing. I expected him to say he loves me too, but I didn't matter because his actions had shown me how much he loved me.
"Have you thought about our honeymoon?" I asked, after a few minutes of silence.
"I don't see a need for a honeymoon." Victor said, causing me to move from his chest and look at him, my eyes widened.
"What do you mean there's no need Victor?" I asked, throwing a questioning gaze at him. "We just got married."
Victor let out a sigh. "That's not what I meant. What I'm saying is, the time is not right. You just inherited more of your grandma's businesses, and you must have a lot of work. I have a lot of work to do, we should focus on that. We can think about it some other time." He explained, I raised my eyebrow, my suspicions piqued by his words, I don't know why but I felt like his words had other meanings behind them. I just decided to brush the thought out of my head and just focus on being a newlywed.
"But Victor, we just got married, it's only fair we get some time off and spend some time together. What would be the point of having so much money without getting some time to ourselves?" I insisted, I still think we should go on our honeymoon and then focus on our work.
Victor frowned, his disapproval evident. "Cynthia, unlike you, I didn't have a silver spoon in my mouth when I was born, which is why now when I have the opportunity to make money, I can't let it go to waste." He said, his patience wearing thin.
My eyes brimmed with tears, my emotions raw and exposed, this definitely not what I expected after getting married, his words just hit me in a wrong way, I decided to keep quiet before I say the wrong things, I can't force him to take us on our honeymoon after our marriage.
Silence fell inside the car, Victor said nothing to see he regretted what he said, and I didn't say anything more, I just kept quiet, why should I become the desperate one?
After a few minutes, the guard stopped the car at the villa. I was so excited that we were coming to our new house, but all my excitement was gone, I just wanted to go inside and sleep. The guard opened the car, and I stepped out, Victor was already heading in.
This was definitely not the man I've been dating for the past few weeks, he changed in a split of a second, and I couldn't recognize him at all.
Maybe he was just tired because of work, which is why I decided to push the thought out of my mind.
As we went inside, Victor led the way upstairs, and I followed him. All I wanted was to fall asleep and think about everything tomorrow.
As Victor pushed the door to our room, I was frozen in place at a scene that welcomed me, I stood there rotten on the ground, my body unable to move or respond as I watched the scene in front of me, Amanda was butt naked with long a piece of panties and bra as she welcomed Victor at the entrance with a kiss, who responded to it, right in my watch.
I tried to process what was happening, but my mind went absolutely blank. I couldn't think or even utter a word. I just wanted someone to pinch me and tell me that it was all a dream, just a dream.
