Vampire Overlord's Harem In The Apocalypse

Chapter 13: A Clash Of Ideals (II)

In the apocalypse, there would always be a clash of ideals. It was inevitable.

Two people who couldn't see eye to eye on something crucial, something that defined who they were, would always come to a head.

And when that happened, there were only two options: either they would continue to argue, their ideals perpetually butting against each other, or one would have to yield, surrendering their beliefs and agreeing to the other's way of thinking.

Simon wasn't sure what drove him to choose the second path. Maybe it was the cold, unyielding eyes of the man in front of him, the sheer determination behind them.

Maybe it was the weight of reality bearing down on him, forcing him to confront what had become of humanity in this new world.

The apocalypse was a place where human logic was discarded, where the rules they were taught in school, the laws of physics they once relied upon, no longer applied.

The world was a cruel parody of itself, and here, the concept of humanity — it seemed so… fragile.

So irrelevant.

And so, Simon surrendered.

His ideals, the moral code he had clung to before, the one that had made him who he was, began to dissolve in the face of this harsh new world.

It wasn't that he didn't believe in humanity anymore. It wasn't that he had turned his back on everything that made him human.

But to truly survive in the apocalypse, to embrace what it had become, he realized he had to shed that skin, the one that defined him as prey.

He would have to become a predator — someone who wasn't afraid to end the lives of others, someone who was willing to kill for a future.

It was a strange thought. A disturbing one. But at the same time, it felt almost... elegant.

Perfectly suited for the situation at hand. If he wanted to make it, if he wanted to thrive in this new, unforgiving world, he couldn't afford to hold on to old, idealistic notions of what it meant to be human.

He had to let go of his morals and embrace the darkness that had taken root in this broken world.

The man before him didn't wait for Simon to finish his internal monologue. With a grimace etched on his face, he raised his gun again.

His aim was locked on the keg Simon was holding, and for a moment, Simon wondered if the man thought he could take him down with something so trivial.

But Simon wasn't afraid of the keg, or of the bullet that would come for it. He was done caring about such things.

With a swift motion, Simon tossed the keg to the side. The movement was casual, as if he didn't care at all about the fuel inside or the man's plan to use it as a target.

But the truth was, Simon didn't care anymore. He had bigger things to focus on.

The man didn't hesitate. He squeezed the trigger, three shots fired in quick succession, each one aimed with deadly precision. But Simon wasn't there to be hit.

His enhanced reflexes kicked in almost before the man could pull the trigger. His eyes, now glowing a deep crimson, read the man's every move, anticipated the trajectory of the bullets before they even left the barrel.

He dodged them effortlessly.

The first shot missed his head by mere inches, the second grazing his cheek, the third soaring harmlessly past his shoulder.

It was almost like he was toying with the man now. The way Simon moved, the way his body flowed with an unnatural grace, left the shooter in a state of stunned disbelief.

A young man who could dodge bullets? It sounded like something straight out of an action movie, some over-the-top fantasy where the protagonist always outsmarted the villain.

But here, in this grim reality, it was happening right before the man's eyes.

Simon saw the shock in the man's gaze as he stood frozen for just a moment too long.

That hesitation was enough for Simon to close the distance, his predatory grin only widening as the man blinked, as if trying to comprehend what had just happened.

But the man wasn't done. Far from it. Pocketing the gun, he pulled out a knife, its blade gleaming in the dim light.

His movements were quick, desperate now, as he charged at Simon, closing the gap between them. There was no more playing around. The man was intent on ending this, whatever the cost.

With a grunt, the man lunged forward, his knife aimed directly at Simon's face, the blade flashing through the air with deadly intent.

But Simon wasn't fazed. His glowing crimson eyes didn't waver as he met the man's gaze head-on.

He could feel the heat of the man's breath as he neared, hear the rapid beating of his heart, but none of that mattered. The man was already lost. He was a mere pawn in a game Simon had already mastered.

The knife was only inches away from Simon's face when something incredible happened.

Instead of backing away, instead of dodging the attack, Simon opened his mouth wide. The man's eyes widened, not in shock, but in confusion, as Simon's fangs — long, sharp, and deadly — glinted in the dim light.

Without hesitation, Simon lunged forward, his fangs sinking into the blade of the knife.

It wasn't a move anyone could've predicted, certainly not the man. The moment the fangs made contact with the steel, Simon's supernatural strength came into play.

With a sharp crunch, the blade shattered, the metal breaking as if it were made of glass, splintering into fragments that fell to the ground.

The man staggered back, his eyes wide in disbelief.

The man was breathing heavily now, his knife useless, his mind racing as he tried to figure out what to do next. But Simon wasn't waiting. With a smooth motion, Simon took a step forward, his predatory grin never fading.

"Is that all you've got?" Simon asked, his voice a low, mocking tone. It was almost too easy. The man had no idea what he was dealing with.

But Simon knew. He knew exactly who he was now.

The apocalypse had forced him to evolve. He was no longer the prey, running from the horrors of the world.

He was the predator — ruthless, efficient, and unstoppable.

And this man? He was just another casualty in the game of survival.
