Chapter 800: The Strange Situation
Ye Fei responded with a gentle smile, walking over to sit beside Ye Xuan. He took her slender hand in his and gave it a light squeeze before saying, "Let's hear it. What's going on?"
The ambiguity between the two had long been speculated by Zhang Yide, Baldie, and the others. Seeing them finally come together didn't surprise anyone; instead, they silently wished them well.
"I feel like something's off," Zhang Yide spoke up first. As the most composed and experienced among them, his brow was furrowed.
"The New Year tea parties have always been held after the New Year. Why is it happening so early this year? And why were we notified at the last minute? There's probably something going on here."
Ye Fei had already considered these points, but he didn't voice his thoughts. Instead, he turned his gaze to Baldie and Ye Xuan and asked, "What do you think?"
Baldie snorted, "So what if there's something fishy? Who do we have to fear now? If push comes to shove, we'll just take them down!"
Ye Xuan, on the other hand, smiled softly and looked at Ye Fei with deep affection.
"I'll follow your lead." She said this not because she had become foolish after falling in love, but because she knew that the man she loved was far smarter than everyone else in the room combined.
Whatever he decided would undoubtedly be the right call.
"Baldie's right. With our current strength, there's no need to worry so much," Ye Fei said with a laugh.
"In the face of absolute power, any conspiracy is like a woman's hymen—it'll break with a single poke!"
Ye Fei's words drew hearty laughter from Zhang Yide and the others, while Ye Xuan blushed and lightly smacked him, her playful scowl both adorable and alluring.
"So, should we head out now?" Zhang Yide asked after the laughter subsided.
Despite being the elder and receiving Ye Fei's utmost respect, he never questioned Ye Fei's decisions.
Ye Fei, though young, was far wiser and more astute than anyone else. Besides, Baldie's earlier point made sense.
Zhang Yide's concern stemmed more from habit, as the Lingyun Society had never been as powerful as it is now.
"We'll leave now. After all, the gathering is tonight, and we can't afford to be impolite," Ye Fei said with a smile.
He didn't ask Ye Xuan to stay behind because he didn't see those people as a threat.
Even if there was some conspiracy, he was more than capable of protecting the woman he loved.
This was a major gathering of the southern underworld forces.
Whether intentional or not, the location was set in Nanhai City, far from Wanghai.
While Nanhai might sound similar to the southeastern cities, it was actually in the southernmost part of the country. Ye Fei and his group set out early in the morning but didn't arrive until the afternoon.
In terms of the Lingyun Society's public strength, while they weren't quite omnipotent in the south, they were undoubtedly the most powerful among all the gangs.
This time, Ye Fei and the three vice-leaders had all arrived, showing great respect to the tea party's organizers.
However, when they arrived, there wasn't a single person to greet them.
This unusual scene didn't anger Ye Fei and his group but instead made them more cautious.
Even if the people here hadn't witnessed Ye Fei and the Lingyun Society's power firsthand, they must have heard of it.
The fact that they were being so dismissive could only mean one of two things: either they were arrogant fools—a possibility close to zero—or they had a strong confidence, likely stemming from something that made them believe the Lingyun Society was invincible.
Yet, Ye Fei remained completely unfazed. He knew that in this world, no one could pose even the slightest threat to him.
This wasn't blind arrogance but confidence born from a broadened perspective. For these people to take him on, they would have to bring in someone from the cultivation world, as mentioned by Li Canghai, and even then, it would have to be a top-tier expert. But this was impossible; otherwise, someone with such power would have already been ruling the roost.
"These people are pushing their luck!" Baldie exploded, his face red and neck bulging. "Boss, let's storm their place and teach them what manners are!"
"Enough, Baldie. There's no need for that. Since they've made it clear they're ready for a fight, we won't hold back either," Ye Fei said with a smile, his tone casual but his mind sharp.
He was pleased to see that Baldie and the others had grown, though they still had room to mature.
While he was satisfied, he didn't show it in his tone.
"Got it, Boss," Baldie replied, his anger instantly dissipating, replaced by a slightly embarrassed expression.
As Ye Fei had guessed, Baldie wasn't truly angry but had deliberately acted that way to make the enemy underestimate them.
Ye Fei's reminder made him realize it was unnecessary.
If the other side had dared to invite them, they must have done their homework. More importantly, the hostility was already evident, and a confrontation seemed inevitable.
With Ye Fei on their side, they were invincible.
Why bother deceiving the enemy?
Ye Xuan, who had always been strong-willed, was also seething with anger at the other side's attitude.
In the past, she would have stormed off, but after falling deeply in love with Ye Fei, she had gradually softened her temper and now deferred to him in everything. She asked, "Should we head straight to the gathering place?"
Ye Fei, though he had many women, was never the type to be irresponsible or frivolous. Out of love, he understood each of his women deeply.
He could sense Ye Xuan's feelings and gently held her hand, saying, "If it weren't for wanting to see what they're up to, I wouldn't bother with this boring gathering. But since they're being rude, we don't need to be too polite either. Let's find a place to stay first and then see what they're planning."
"Okay," Ye Xuan nodded happily.
Though she was no longer young, she was as easily satisfied as a girl newly in love. Ye Fei's consideration for her feelings filled her with sweetness.
