Until a Witch Dies – Meg Raspberry’s One Year Left to Live

Chapter 5 Part 15

We parted ways with Wulf-kun, agreeing to meet again here.

As I watched his retreating figure, Sophie quietly spoke.

“Are you sure it was okay not to ask for his contact info?”

“Even if I got an address from an otherworlder, I don’t know if I could actually contact him.”

“According to the latest reports, there have been cases of people becoming pen pals with otherworlders.”

“Seriously? That’s amazing…”

So technology had finally advanced to the point where it could transcend worlds.
Would it work if the services and radio frequencies could be synchronized?
I wasn’t sure about the mechanics, but still…

“Well, I made sure to set a time and place for our next meeting, so it should be fine. If he doesn’t show up, he doesn’t show up.”

In the end, this was their problem to figure out.

They had barely any connection to begin with, and a year was a long time.
If I had met someone by chance on a trip and fallen for them at first sight, that feeling would probably have faded after a whole year.

But they had met again.
And, despite everything, they had feelings for each other.
The only thing separating them was their status, their race, their worlds.

Both of them had to overcome that gap—not just one of them, but both.
And I was just an interfering witch, meddling in something that wasn’t mine.

That was all there was to it.

The next day, I went to the promised meeting place and found Marie-san waiting there.
As soon as she saw me, she stood up with a bright smile.

“I’ve been waiting for you.”

“Sophie isn’t with you today?”

“Ah, she got caught up in some… business.”

Actually, the streets were in a bit of a commotion right now.
Sophie’s disguise had been exposed.

The sudden appearance of a world-famous figure had caused a stir, and now, under police supervision, an impromptu handshake event was being held.

“I actually have two things to report to you today, Marie-san.”

“Is it about him?”

“Yeah. I want you to listen without freaking out…”

I told Marie-san everything.
That Wulf-kun was a werewolf and an otherworlder.
That he was hesitating to meet her again.

She responded with a quiet whisper.

“I’m so glad.”

“Glad?”

“He remembered me too.”

“You’re not surprised? About him being a werewolf?”

“Not at all. To be honest, I kind of suspected it. It was during the Otherworld Festival, and I never got a good look at his face. So I thought, maybe… he wasn’t human.”

“I see…”

This woman…
She wasn’t swayed by appearances or circumstances.
She had connected with him as a person and fallen for him.

I didn’t know if their love would bring them a happy ending.
But still, it made me happy to hear that.

“He’s not human. Even so, do you still want to see him?”

“I do.”

Marie-san answered without hesitation.

“To tell you the truth, I have a special memory involving a werewolf.”

“A memory?”

“A long time ago, during another Otherworld Festival, I met a young werewolf boy. He had gotten lost, so I walked around the city with him. But someone mistook him for a real wolf and panicked, causing a huge commotion…”

“Whoa. What happened then?”

“The misunderstanding got cleared up somehow, but in all the chaos, we got separated. I never saw him again. So when I met another werewolf during the festival last year, I thought it was fate.”

“That does seem like a fateful connection.”

Hearing her story, I suddenly remembered what Wulf-kun had told me yesterday.

He had said that, as a child, he had once been mistaken for a real wolf.

Could it be…?
Was the werewolf boy Sophie had mentioned actually Wulf-kun?

As I debated whether I should say anything, Marie-san gazed up at the sky.

“Tomorrow is the last day of the Otherworld Festival. This year, I’ve had such a wonderful encounter, but it’s a shame there won’t be any fireworks.”

“Marie-san, do you still want to see fireworks?”

“Yes… They’re an important memory from when I met him. If I could, I would love to watch them with him again.”

“Then leave it to me.”

“Leave it to you?”

“Tomorrow night, there will be fireworks. I guarantee it.”
