Unexpected Second Chance at Love

As the day forged ahead, Yue Ling began to feel the strength in her legs return. She sat in the study, quietly observing the man behind the monitor screen.

She had to admit, he was godly handsome despite the cold and intimidating air around him. She even wonders if she was engaged to this man.

Lost in her admiration for him, his eyes suddenly shift to her, and she quickly raises the book to hide her face.

"Hmm…"

She pretends to be interested in the book, but only for a few seconds. Her hands gradually lower, and she steals another glance at the man.

However, unlike the previous times, when he would return to looking at the monitor screen, this time, his full attention was on her.

Her bluish-green eyes met his, and she froze in place at being caught.

Lu Tian sat leaning back in his chair with his arms folded over his chest. His head slightly tilted to the side, and there was a faint yet noticeable smile on his face.

Judging by the book in his wife's hands, which was upside down, he knew she hadn't been reading. He wanted to point it out but decided not to.

"My love."

His voice held a deep affection for her, and he saw her look behind the book only to hide again.

He sighs and rubs his forehead before standing up. He walks over to her and takes the book from her; he wants to see her face, not the book.

"If you keep looking at me like that, I'll misinterpret it as you trying to seduce me."

Yue Ling wanted to grab the book but froze again. This time, her cheeks heated up upon hearing him. She looked up at the man now standing in front of her, and her mouth opened to refute him, but she was unable to utter a word, let alone a sound.

Seeing her flabbergasted expression, Lu Tian held back his smile. His hand reached out to hold the back of her head, and he leaned down to kiss her head.

"Are you being shy now? It's not like you haven't seen all of me."

Yue Ling was beyond dumbfounded and looked up at him. She hit him in the stomach, but not enough to hurt him. It was more like a light tap, but Lu Tian took advantage of her movement and grabbed her hand.

He pretended to be in pain and held her hand on his stomach, making sure that she could feel him.

"My love, if you want to touch me, you don't have to use violence."

"…"

Yue Ling stared at him in disbelief. She could not believe such words were coming from the man before her.

Didn't many tell her that he was a dangerous man? Isn't he known to be the devil? Wasn't it said that he is a heartless man who kills without batting an eye?

How can such a cold-blooded man know how to behave so shamelessly?

She kept her eyes on him as if trying to figure out his thoughts.

Lu Tian smiles at the way his wife looks at him. He leans forward until he is at eye level with her, and his smile widens.

"Is this better?"

"…"

Yue Ling blinked her eyes and was once again dumbfounded. She scoffs a laugh and turns her head away. However, the blush on her face told otherwise.

Seeing her attention shift from him, a frown appears on Lu Tian's face. He did not like that she was not looking at him.

He held her chin and turned her back to him. Their eyes met, and the displeasing feeling in him quickly dissipated.

"Why are you looking away from me? Is my love angry? Did I take it too far?"

His questions made Yue Ling sigh. She wasn't angry with him. It was more like she didn't know how to react to him.

From the time they first met at the airport to now, she would never have guessed that the man before her and the man in front of her were the same. If anything, she would have thought they were two different people.

She pushes the thought away and moves his hand on her chin. She doesn't push it away, but she keeps a hold on it.

"Sometimes, I just don't know what is going on in your head for you to say what you do."

Lu Tian knew that she wasn't angry at him. After all, what kind of husband would he be if he didn't know whether his wife was furious?

He raised his hand, which she was holding, and kissed the tips of her fingers.

"If you're curious, just ask. I have nothing to hide from you; this side of me is only for you."

His words were reassurance, and he gently pulled her up from the chair. His arms wrapped around her slender waist, and he nuzzled close to her neck, inhaling the unique scent that he loved.

"It's only you who can make me behave this way. No one else."

And it was the truth. Even he knew that he acted differently since he met his wife. From the first time he saw her on the plane until now, he was head over heels for her. Just thinking of her was enough to make him act like a little mischievous boy trying to catch her attention.

She is the air that he can only breathe in and the world he wants to live in. No one else matters to him as long as she is by his side.

Yue Ling couldn't help but blush once again at his words. Not because they were shameless but because she knew he meant every word.

She hugs him back, and a smile curls on her lips.

"What am I going to do with you?"

Lu Tian's arms around her tighten as if he is attempting to knead her into one with him.

"Just don't leave me. I don't know what I will do if you ever decide to leave me."

Yue Ling's heart melted at his words, and without thinking too much about their meaning, she moved back enough to kiss him on the lips.

"I won't. That's a promise."

This man had become her haven. Even if others say he is the devil in disguise, to her, he is just Lu Tian, the man who loves her for who she is.

They remained in each other's arms for a long time before Yue Ling changed the subject. She leans back to look up at Lu Tian.

"Are you finished with work?"

Lu Tian gazes down at his wife, the affection in his eyes still in place, as he nods his head with a faint hum.

"Is there something you want to do?"

This time, Yue Ling nods her head. While they had remained in the study since noon, she had the time to think.

"I wanted to stop by a few places to buy some things for yeye and Jingxu."

It's been a while since she saw them, and she has not purchased anything for them. She felt getting her grandfather and brother a few things would be nice since she would visit them.

Lu Tian didn't think anything was wrong with her idea. He places a light kiss on her forehead and reluctantly lets her go.

"Alright. Get ready. I'll be out in a few minutes to change."

The smile on Yue Ling's face widens as her heart jumps with joy. She never found the excitement in shopping for herself, but when doing so for others, especially for those dearest to her.

She wastes no time and leaves the study, leaving behind the man she had just shared a heartwarming hug with.

"Oh, where should we go first? Jingxu will need school supplies. Oh, maybe clothes too. Yeye… hm, maybe some more supplements?"

Lu Tian smiles as he watches his wife walk away while talking to herself. He lightly shakes his head, but suddenly, feeling her warmth away from him, he purses his lips.

His wife said she always wondered what was going on in his mind, but he always wondered what was happening in her head.

Does she feel as empty as he does when she is not in his arms? Does she miss him as much as he misses her, even when they're under the same roof? Does she think about him as much as he thought about her?

His expression turns into one of a lost puppy, and running a hand through his hair.

He turns away from the door and returns to his desk to turn off the computer. He pushes his chair in and leaves the study to go after his wife.

Even though she was only down the hall, he needed to be close to her always.

However, having taken only one step out of the room, his phone chimes in a notification.

He takes his phone out of his pocket and unlocks the screen. Reading the message, he frowns with unreadable thoughts.
