Chapter 27: Everyone's Shock
"This… is something else given by his master," she said softly.
Qian Daoliu's eyes sharpened slightly as he took the bottle. He examined the four round, bead-like objects inside and asked, "What are they?"
Ling Yuan explained calmly, "They are Marrow Cleansing Pills. Their effects are miraculous, especially for someone who has just awakened their Martial Spirit."
"There are four pills inside," Ling Yuan continued. "One is meant for my niece, Ling Meimei. As for the remaining three—Your Worship may allocate them as you see fit."
Qian Daoliu slowly nodded in approval. "Very well. Ling Meimei will receive hers first. She is young, and her Martial Spirit has only just awakened. She is the perfect candidate."
He stroked his beard thoughtfully.
"That leaves three. I'll give one to Golden Crocodile Douluo's granddaughter—she has also just awakened her Martial Spirit. Then, another to my granddaughter. Although she awakened hers long ago, her potential is extraordinary. She will surely benefit from it."
"That leaves one," he said, his voice contemplative.
Ling Yuan added, "I suggest giving the last one to someone with innate Spirit Power at Rank 9 upon awakening. The cleansing process would increase the quality of their soul foundation—and may even elevate an average Martial Spirit to something rare, or cause it to evolve into a higher form."
Qian Daoliu gave her a long look, then nodded. "Wise advice."
His expression dimmed slightly as his gaze shifted toward a file resting nearby on a side table. It held the record of a young girl with a fox-type Martial Spirit… and the name Bibi Dong was written at the top.
His eyes lingered on it for a while, then he sighed deeply.
I once thought she could have been the future of Spirit Hall, he reflected with a heavy heart. But then my foolish son… committed that monstrous act against her.
"Bibi Dong's disciple shall receive the last one," Qian Daoliu said, his tone even but decisive.
Ling Yuan didn't respond with words—she simply nodded in acknowledgment. "I'll take my leave then… but not before I observe the effects the pill has on my niece."
Qian Daoliu nodded back. "Good. I also wish to witness it. Call Golden Crocodile Douluo. Instruct him to bring his granddaughter—the one who has recently awakened her Martial Spirit."
His tone shifted slightly as he issued further instructions.
"And Ling Yuan… bring your niece as well. Also, inform Bibi Dong to bring Hu Liena here. I want all three present."
"Yes, Elder," Ling Yuan and a nearby servant answered in unison before turning and swiftly departing the hall to carry out the orders.
Elsewhere in Spirit City, Golden Crocodile Douluo furrowed his brow upon receiving the message. "My granddaughter?" he muttered to himself, glancing at the young girl currently cultivating with a composed expression. "She only awakened her Martial Spirit a week ago… What could the Grand Priest want with her so soon?"
Still, he did not question the command. An order from Qian Daoliu was never given lightly.
He rose, his robes trailing behind him like a river of gold, and called out to the child. "Come, Yu'er. We're going to the Worship Hall."
At the same time, Ling Yuan arrived at a secluded estate where her niece, Ling Meimei, was quietly studying a basic soul control scripture. "Aunt?" the girl looked up, surprised.
"You're coming with me," Ling Yuan said gently, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "The Grand Priest wishes to see you."
Elsewhere, in the central spire of Spirit Hall, Bibi Dong had just concluded a routine instruction with Hu Liena when a servant arrived with the Grand Priest's summons.
"Teacher?" Hu Liena asked, sensing a subtle shift in the atmosphere.
Bibi Dong narrowed her gaze, then nodded. "We're summoned. Come with me."
One by one, they arrived at the sacred Worship Hall.
The wide golden doors creaked open to welcome them. Golden Crocodile Douluo stepped in first, his presence as commanding as ever. At his side stood a nervous but curious young girl with silver hair and bright amber eyes.
Next came Ling Yuan, her serene expression betraying a hint of concern. Her niece, Ling Meimei, clung quietly to her side, casting shy glances around the hallowed chamber.
Lastly, Bibi Dong entered—elegant, composed, and watchful. Hu Liena followed closely, her steps light but filled with quiet anticipation, clearly sensing the importance of the moment.
Around them, priests and elders of Spirit Hall began to gather, murmuring amongst themselves.
"Golden Crocodile Douluo… with his granddaughter?"
"And that's Ling Yuan with a child too… freshly awakened?"
"Bibi Dong brought her apprentice? What's going on?"
The Worship Hall hadn't witnessed such an unusual congregation in many years. Several other Titled Douluo had also arrived, drawn by curiosity and concern. Whispers echoed through the chamber—no one knew why they had been summoned so abruptly, nor why Ling Yuan, who had been dispatched on a secret mission, had returned at this precise moment.
Her assignment had been highly confidential. None of them knew she had been tasked with protecting someone named Li Shen. Now, her unexpected return and the Grand Priest's summons stirred questions too delicate to be voiced aloud. If her mission had concluded, something significant must have occurred—perhaps something that even tied into this gathering.
Yet, what puzzled many was the presence of several young girls, most barely beyond the point of awakening their Martial Spirits. Why were such children brought to this most sacred of places—usually reserved for the highest echelon of Spirit Hall?
It was then that Qian Daoliu's deep, commanding voice echoed throughout the golden chamber.
"As you all know, Ling Yuan was on a confidential mission. That mission has now borne fruit," he announced, his tone heavy with implication. "And today, these three shall share in those results."
He gestured toward the three girls standing beside their elders.
"Step forward."
The three girls—Ling Meimei, Golden Crocodile Douluo's granddaughter, and Hu Liena—hesitated briefly before stepping forward, uncertain but obedient.
Bibi Dong narrowed her eyes slightly and stepped beside Hu Liena, her gaze steady as she spoke. "May I ask… what is the meaning of this?" she inquired coolly, her tone composed yet edged with suspicion. "Why have they been called here? Why are children involved in a matter concerning the Worship Hall?"
