Uchiha Ascendant: Rewriting the Ninja World

Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Coordinated Combat

A few days later, a large Konoha ninja force crossed the Fire Country's border and entered the Grass Country.

And the Grass Ninja Village's response?

During peacetime, perhaps they'd have the luxury to act affronted, but during wartime? Their resistance was laughable. In the ninja world, power spoke louder than reason. The Grass Country, a minor nation, had no strength to oppose the Five Great Nations.

Deep within the dense forests of the Grass Country, the vast trees loomed large, dwarfing the tiny figures of ninja. Yet, these seemingly insignificant warriors wielded techniques capable of leveling those very trees.

"Six squads up ahead," reported Hyuga Hiashi and Hyuga Hizashi, their Byakugan active as they scouted the enemy. "The strongest chakra level is mid-Chunin."

On a nearby tree branch, Inuzuka Claw grinned wolfishly, baring his teeth in anticipation.

"Looks like the Grass Ninja couldn't wait to pounce. Perfect—I've been itching to see how they measure up."

Nara Shikaku, perched on another branch, furrowed his brows and addressed the group with a measured tone:

"Stay cautious. Orochimaru-sama led an elite force ahead of us to clear the path. These stragglers could be scouts from Grass Ninja Village or hired hands probing for information. Don't underestimate them."

The ninjas all nodded, their expressions turning serious. This wasn't just a mission—it was war. No one here could afford to let their guard down.

Shikaku turned to Uchiha Yo, his gaze steady.

"Yo, you've seen real combat on the Rain Country front. You have the most experience here."

The group's eyes shifted to Yo, awaiting his input.

Yo's expression remained calm as he replied:

"When facing over ten enemies, it's critical not to let them close in or surround us. Mass combat like this is completely different from small-team skirmishes. If we allow them to cluster and leverage coordinated attacks, it'll be disastrous."

This group had limited experience working in large-scale formations, unlike their opponents, who were likely trained for this very scenario. Even a slight misstep in coordination could lead to devastating losses.

Shikaku nodded approvingly. "Understood. We'll go with Plan B."

The group moved swiftly, forming their battle plan.

Yo surveyed his comrades. Their presence here spoke volumes about Konoha's current desperation. Normally, they would have been given years to develop their skills, but circumstances had forced their early promotion to Chunin.

"Yo, stick to the plan," Kushina said, her tone serious as she joined his side.

The group split into smaller units:

Nara Shikaku, Akimichi Choza, and Yamanaka Inoichi formed the classic Ino-Shika-Cho team.

Inuzuka Claw and Aburame Shibi paired off as a tracking unit.

Hyuga Hiashi and Hyuga Hizashi served as the sensory team.

Yo, Kushina, and Minato formed the final squad.

"Be careful out there," Minato said to Kushina, his concern evident.

She scoffed, crossing her arms. "Don't slow me down."

Minato's status as a promising but relatively unremarkable "ordinary genius" stood in stark contrast to the elite bloodlines surrounding him. Without a kekkei genkai or a storied family, he lacked the immediate prestige of his peers.

"Everyone, get ready. Stick to the plan!"

As the group disappeared into the shadows of the forest, Shikaku's sharp mind worked overtime.

"Were these enemy scouts deliberately allowed through by Orochimaru-sama?" he wondered aloud.

It made sense. The Grass Country was being used as a training ground for Konoha's next generation, thinning the enemy's ranks while sharpening their own.

Eighteen enemy ninjas approached, spreading out into a battle formation as they advanced. The eerie silence of the forest was suddenly broken by the sharp snap of a tripwire.

"Not good!"

An explosion ripped through the air, a chain of detonating tags consuming a section of the enemy force in fire and smoke.

"Trap!"

The blast claimed one enemy ninja's life and left two others gravely injured, instantly rendering one squad ineffective.

"Haha! The Great Toad Sage of Mount Myoboku has arrived!"

A loud, boisterous voice echoed through the trees as a white-haired figure leapt onto a high branch.

"Jiraiya of Konoha!"

The enemy froze, recognizing the figure immediately. Even though Jiraiya's moniker as one of the legendary Sannin had yet to be established, his reputation as an elite Jonin preceded him.

"Retreat! We're no match for him!"

But as the panicked enemy began their retreat, a trio of figures emerged from the left flank.

Fire Style: Dragon Fire Technique!

Yo's hands blurred as he formed seals, unleashing a roaring stream of flames from his mouth.

Wind Style: Gale Palm!

On either side, Minato and Kushina complemented Yo's attack, their wind techniques fueling the fire. The combined assault transformed into a blazing inferno.

"Look out!"

The firestorm barreled forward, consuming several enemy ninjas in its wake.

"Damn it! The fire's laced with shuriken!"

Even as the flames dissipated, a hail of shuriken followed, striking down more foes.

"Argh! Captain, what are you—"

A scream rang out as one of the enemy leaders, under the influence of a Yamanaka Clan mind-transfer technique, suddenly turned on his allies, decapitating one and maiming another.

"It's the Nara Clan's shadow techniques!"

The supposed "Jiraiya" dissolved into a puff of smoke, revealing Aburame Shibi in his place.

Inuzuka ninja dogs, swarms of Aburame insects, and Hyuga Gentle Fist techniques all erupted into action, decimating the enemy ranks.

Though the opposing forces were technically of the same rank, Konoha's elite clan techniques gave their side an overwhelming advantage. The enemy was outmatched and outmaneuvered at every turn.

Even Minato, despite his relatively humble origins, began to demonstrate his potential through precise and efficient wind techniques.

Th

e coordinated assault left the battlefield littered with enemy bodies, cementing Konoha's dominance in this skirmish.
