Chapter 105: chapter 104
Chapter 104 – Devils Don't Die
The Sanctuary wasn't the same.
It wasn't cold anymore.
It wasn't cruel.
No fear. No chains. No damn iron.
It was... alive.
Axel made that happen.
And Negan, for once in his miserable bastard life, liked it that way.
He wasn't swinging Lucille for fear.
He wasn't giving speeches soaked in blood.
He was just... running shit.
Fair.
Strong.
Good.
But Axel wasn't here anymore.
And that didn't sit right.
So Negan did what he always did when shit didn't feel right—he got in the car, Lucille riding shotgun, and drove.
Didn't know where.
Didn't care.
But today?
Today felt different.
The sky was too quiet.
The road too still.
Then he saw it.
A body.
Right there in the middle of the road like a damn horror movie.
He slowed the car.
Then stopped.
The walker nearby didn't even flinch. Didn't even look at the body.
Negan narrowed his eyes.
"What the hell...?" he muttered, stepping out of the car with Lucille in hand.
The usual cocky smirk on his face.
But then he got closer.
And the smirk?
Gone.
Dead.
His eyes widened.
"…Axel?"
The body moved.
Blood-crusted, clothes torn, eyes dark as hell—but alive.
Axel opened one bloodshot eye and gave that same crooked smirk.
"Hi, Neg... Miss me already?"
Negan blinked.
"Well, shit," he whispered. "Ain't this a beautiful mess."
....
Negan didn't say a word on the way back.
He just drove.
Lucille on his shoulder.
Axel slumped in the seat, covered in blood, staring out the window like a ghost.
When they reached the gates, the guards stepped up fast—ready to fight.
Until they saw who it was.
"Open the goddamn gate," Negan said, voice calm but sharp.
They obeyed like soldiers.
Inside, people stared.
No one said a word.
Axel didn't smile.
Didn't flirt.
Didn't joke.
He just walked inside.
Blood dripping from him like he was still in the middle of a war.
The place he built with laughter, fights, and chaos...
It felt colder now.
Because he wasn't Axel anymore. Not really.
He sat on the stairs in the hallway, took off his jacket, and stared at his own hands.
"Lot of blood," he whispered.
And then a shadow came running.
It was Silas.
"My Lord," he spoke to Axel, still the same old Silas.
"Hi there one," Axel smirked softly.
"What a fucking mess you got yourself into, kid," Negan asked.
"Well you remember a month ago I told you I'm going to Alexandria so I can make Rick and his people don't want war anymore?
Well I did, and I started working with them, you know.
Life was beautiful until that bitch Alpha came and shit was running the play."
Negan lit a cigarette and leaned on the wall.
He didn't joke. Didn't smirk.
"You kill God too while you were at it?"
Axel didn't answer.
Just closed his eyes.
"Monsters don't get to rest," he finally muttered. "But I'm tired, Neg."
Negan looked at him.
"…Then sleep, kid. I'll keep watch."
