Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Knowledge dumping and base building.
POV: Heath.
Date: Mörsugur 9th, 999. (Alt: 22nd Dec, 999 AD.) Location: Götaland (Ancient Sweden.)
'Now, for the runic injector. . .' Heath internally mumbled. He traverses through the field quickly to create and form some steel with the (copper / iron ingot farm) and (forest farm,) he makes it into a large rectangular object with a formed grip for increased comfort.
A small sharp cone is added to feed directly into the spinal cord without damaging the nervous system from within. With his additional precision and growing power, he can shrink the runes as necessary. He adds the ᛉ (Protection / Shield / Elk,) ᛇ (Yggdrasil / Yew Tree / Dream Rune,) ᚱ (Horse / Ride / Journey / Thor Rune,) ᛟ (Heritage / Estate Rune,) ᚾ (Need / Hardship Rune,) ᛗ (Man / Human / Self Rune,) ᚠ (Cattle / Livestock / Wealth Rune,) ᛖ (Horse / Twin Forces Rune,) and ᚨ (Odin / Inspiration / Wisdom Rune.) They are in the cone itself.
This came at an additional cost with a multiplier form that Heath marked down upon his growing tome: its increase was exponential the smaller it became. It acts much like the Square Cube Law, except replacing an increase in volume with a decrease in size.
Heath adds to his intent that these should be read only to all except to Heath himself, that it does not interfere with previous or memories made after and that it can absorb, create (through high-internal simulations) or gain new knowledge if it is found to be of 'greater value' and how to apply it realistically in their reality. To create knowledge that one cannot absorb or gain, the application of magic would be provided in tandem with a topic, such as Woodcutting, Carpentry, Stonecutting, Masonry, etc from within its limited storage.
By staying near the copper ingot side of the (copper / iron ingot farm.) He absorbs the copper, which is the most magic-perforated material available (from his personal tests, iron is close to last, even partially deflecting magic.) Easily gaining 11 / 10ths of the way there.
After inserting his magic, the tip of the steel began to shimmer with an otherworldly glow. Now it is primed for knowledge to be inserted. His full intent for the final piece of the puzzle was 'Construction and Built Environment.' Transforming Heath's magical energy into about 22nd-century knowledge before stopping due to a near-overload of memory within a runic injector. (1 century ahead of his own world.) This consumed much of him and it felt like a pit in his stomach had formed. His levels were close to 01 / 20ths of the way there now. 'Shit.'
"*HUFF* *HUFF* *HAGH*" Heath's face became paper-pale while close to near-zero magical energy. His mind was foggy but his expression had clear sensitivity to the 'artefact' he created. His eyes saw the sheen that had a promise of untapped understanding.
The people closest by, who were walking towards the farms' location, saw Heath kneeling to the ground. Their expressions were one of shock. They began to run toward him at a faster speed. Worried something may have happened, Heath collected enough magic naturally to be aware of his surroundings again when they were halfway there. Heath got up slowly and began absorbing more copper. He got to 08 / 10ths of the way there, now gaining back his skin colour and appearing less jaundiced. He saw Hervor, Jorg, Gorm and Eirikr running.
Heath waved towards them, signalling he was fine. But they continued running, this took them 12 minutes and during that process, he stirred closer to them, then continued making more of these unprimed runic injectors from a template. Great sweat covered Heath's brow.
Hervor, Jorg and Gorm saw the downpour upon his face during this process. And a look of absolute concentration within Heath's eyes. Once he stopped creating the 9th one. "Why did your form suddenly shrink, did you suddenly fall over?" Gorm asked first. "We were worried! If creating these devices leads to you keeling over, it would be best for you to stop. You do not want me to make you, even if you could knock me through to the other side of this cavern." Jorg gives a stern tone, brotherly in nature. Something Heath slightly smiles for.
"No need to worry, I simply provided the first basis of knowledge for this one." Heath brought up the syringe-like runic injector. Captivating his audience. They saw its colour shift through ephemeral hues, never settling for one within the clean, unblemished surface of it.
". . . A god is not meant to sweat, Heath. You can stop if it would lead to worse for yourself. We can learn knowledge the old way. Many regular teachings from you." Gorm says with clear concern. "You would be right, but we do not have the time. With the marriage between your son and the Open Hand Giant Clan's daughter, I wish to create a good home for them, and their children. Same with a few of your people who are also pregnant and waiting." Heath says in direct opposition to what they said, Gorm went silent from that.
"To Helheim with that, I know your strength. If you could easily swipe a few trees from the ground with a wave of your hand and that led to you falling over? That would have killed any of our strongest men many times over." Eirikr posits, disgruntled by his brash nature.
Heath smiles further, happy they cared for him so much. "I understand. But I am not a normal man as you would put it. I will warn you if I do anything as dangerous, though. I was caught off guard, that is all." Trying to placate them, Heath shifted on to another topic. "Do you wish to experience this knowledge firsthand? I made sure it did not interfere with your already existing memories. Nor that it was not as painful as it would have been. Though from the new knowledge, my guess is the user would be starving afterwards." Heath said as a guess.
"Then we have to prepare some food. We did agree on the feast after all!" Hervor declares with a flourish to her voice. Others nod in agreement. Then wait a moment. I will ask the farmers for their seeds or produce to farm and will place it within the plot," Heath states.
Heath flew off to the portal area, where they had temporarily set camp. "Does anyone here have seeds? I will personally compensate you and place them on the farm for you. I could make it self-harvesting so you will have continuous food production. You could focus on other tasks or find different jobs that could be more of your passion. Those who still wish to be in the farming business could become farm supervisors, of course." Heath spoke clearly to all in the vicinity. A few of them looked at each other, confused but willing.
"Where will we put our slaves to work then?" One of the more well-off farmers asked. "You could provide them with other tasks to keep them busy. I will soon create some advanced work systems and high-end crafts that would be perfect for them." Heath reasoned.
"Crafts, what types are they?" That same farmer asked directly. "They are called machinery, it uses metals and designed products to accelerate and make results more efficient in design and make." Heath spoke truthfully. Causing the farmer's eyes to light up in a glint that seemed to be of inspiration and greed. "The name's Ari, I will have much to hear about this machinery as you call it." Ari's response was obvious, and Heath could tell what his mind was thinking. "Of course, we will have much to talk about." Heath responded vaguely, squinting.
"Write down every type of seed we have! Move it þræll." One of Ari's more educated slaves dashed while flinching at any sign of movement. Heath tried to ignore the pain in his chest while they were doing so, the slave wrote down information of seeds available in their stock.
Heath internalised his downcast mood and continued with the work as necessary. He thanked them and read through the note: 'Angelica, chives, barley, beans, cabbage, carrots, celery, dill, flax, garlic, hay, hops, millet, oats, onions, parsley, parsnips, peas, radishes, rye, spinach, swede, turnips and wheat.' Heath also saw wild-kept red / blackcurrants, bilberries, blackberries, cloudberries, elderberries and lingonberries, remembering this list in English alphabetical order for later, he got all they allowed him to take from the sleighs.
He flew back, soon imbuing energy into it to create large sections within the plot for each seed type, set if they are a berry, grain, root or above-ground crop type. However, the numbers took less than a percent of the total farm. 'It'll grow in time.' Heath internally voiced.
Heath views the magic seeping into the crops, visibly speeding up their growth cycles. Then he alters the intent of the runes above so it is a now-automated rain that only does so over the plot, meaning it has an optimal year-round setup. (It also led to the formation of clouds.) 'Reminds me of Minecraft's crops, they are capable of growing in about 0.6 - 1.2 hours.' Heath was happy, not expecting it to be so quick. He flies over to Gorm's location with Hervor, Jorg and Eirikr in an incidental discussion that he caught partway through.
"- first we must discuss what type of knowledge it is, we forgot to ask Heath." Eirikr remarked, soon staring at Heath's location, the others saw him looking off in that direction and began staring too. "It is simply construction and material knowledge." Heath answered.
"Then I believe it will be good for Bori to have this knowledge, his son Bjorn would then be given it once he is of age. He's a wiry man but enjoys working and repairing the longhouses." Gorm states his belief, and others agree on it. Their definition of 'wiry' would be a shredded man in Heath's world, but he only internally grumbles this. "I have made the farms self-sufficient, they now continuously produce crops too quickly to eat for most, in addition. To help with measurements, I will soon provide new quantifications." Heath started to think.
Heath used one of his runic injectors to represent a specific time of the day, he introduced the concept of Planck Time: How long it takes for light to travel through a vacuum over a Planck Length, the known smallest unit of measurement that can be accurately measured.
1 'Model Second' would be 2 x 10^(43) rather than the arbitrary 1.8550948324478 x 10^(43) and 1 'Model Meter' would be 2 x 10^(34) Plancks rather than 6.1879273537329 x 10^(34.) It would be about 1 / 3 the size of what we knew of as a meter but it became an easy divisible conversion from the previous units provided of all measurements beforehand without the human-centric view. EX: 86164.0905 is a full day in the modern world with regular seconds, considering that days were shorter by 0.023 1 millennia ago, making it 86164.0675.
1.8550948324478 / 2 = 0.92754741622, 86164.0675 x 0.92754741622 = 79921.2581806 (79921.26) Heath Seconds. 79921.258. . . / (24) = 3330.05242419 Heath Seconds / Hour. A full 3330 Seconds are recorded and the extra time is kept as a 'pause.'
Heath accepted this and added it to his intent. It imbued half of his leftover magic power, leaving about 03 / 10ths of the way. He would further edit it to account for the average time lengthening per year for Earth or other realms. 'Now, I can directly use this device not just for memory-creating, but for precision-based machining.' Heath's expression showed through his weary face, a sense of comfort and joy since he first came into this world. . . Off-topic, but Gods didn't have to sleep, yet Heath theorized it could help focus on magic regeneration.
His thought process came from him having a small power nap beforehand, he felt more 'filled' than if he was awake for the same period with around the same amount of magic before both examples. Magic and sleep may be related to the 'relaxing' of the soul, in a way.
'It works in hand with the slow neural degeneration that occurs from the buildup of adenosine deaminase, which increases the risk of abnormal protein reactions and the death or lesions of neuronal and glial cells. When we sleep it helps to secrete the excess and for our mind to -' Heath went into an internal tangent through biology, a subject he was passionate about in the past. '- maybe magic helps enhance this process of secretion or even its catalysis to 2' - deoxyadenosine / deoxyinosine. . .' Heath paused himself.
Others looked at him with barely-masked, exasperated expressions. He budged them closer to the farms while becoming embarrassed again but started talking to bring it back to 'better' topics. He coughed into his hand, clearing his throat, a deep and full resonance.
"With the development created in this device, there is an unbiased design for time and distance that follows the natural laws of reality. This will help our future building and craft projects. And about building, I have an idea of what I wish to build for the first structure." Heath intoned with full clarity, slowly dissolving his previous expression. He soon created a small model with 20 concrete bricks, he first designed the base of the structure. A created structure much like 'The Venetian Macao' was formed, except with a few key differences.
(Information would be recorded with three res. values for viewers' understanding.)
It was enlarged, rather than having a base that spanned 250-km^(2) (96.53-mi^(2.)) It now spanned exactly 167,520.696592 Model km^(2) (17,500.00-km^(2) (6,756.79-mi^(2.))) Or a bit smaller than Kuwait. It would be the 153rd largest country if it were above ground.
Its base, which would be a 'courtyard' and garden that is bigger than many countries, would hold the main structure. It had the same general shape but a gothic style instead, and its height was in line with the enlargement. It stood at 15 Model km (4.8482-km (3.0125-mi.)) It would pierce the skies and would appear almost like a monolith. Then, on either side of the 'ends' of the structure, two large towers were erected, each at 25 Model km (8.0803-km (5.0209-mi.)) Their designs are reminiscent of the Woolworth Building. Very grandiose.
There was exactly 64,615.1258279 Model km^(2) (6,750.00 km^(2) (2,509.67 mi^(2))) in usable floor space. And additional room for inward expansion. The model was thrice the height of Heath. And was a perfectly accurate representation of the real structure's focus.
It can comfortably hold the entire human race with the majority of its rooms to spare, (which is about 280,000,000+ in the current date set.) Something this large would host the major administratory bulk of their 'country.' And its materials would be held up through (self-reconfiguration and self-repair runes.) Similar to the design for the ground and materials. All of its floors are connected through a network of managed portals too. A major task that would take Heath 2 weeks, even if he was continuously working through the farms.
The model was incredibly comprehensive, with all its details close to the absolute limit of the human eye's capabilities. They saw the size of the door at the bottom. And the scale at which this building is made shocked Heath's audience, (more than usual, that is.)
Gorm nearly knocked himself over thinking of this building's scale. His expression was slightly pained, he was doing his best to picture himself in front of the structure. Hervor, Jorg and Eirikr looked towards Heath, deadpan. "What sort of massive designs are you thinking up ahead? This is something that would make even Skrýmir (Utgard-Loki) look small!" Hervor's enunciated response broke Jorg and Eirikr out of their daze. "You are right with that, but I don't think you said it as a compliment." Heath remarked with a light probing tone.
"If you make something this large, even the rich gods would smite us in jealousy. Not even Þórr's Bilskirnir would be as large. You are lucky they could not see through the cavern's 'sky.' Otherwise, we would be dead from your hubris." Hervor responded very dogmatically.
But none disagreed. The Bliskirnir is a main hall, like Valhalla's. Except with 540 rooms, greater than Óðinn's own. It would have been paltry compared to the modern-esque structure that Heath has chosen to design. It is a bit over 8x the size of our tallest structures and is exaggerated with how it is designed to play to a person's perspective. Anyone with megalophobia would more than likely have a panic attack just looking at it. "If it's to house all your people, it must be deserving of the Völsung Clan." Heath sounded matter-of-fact.
". . . You treat us well as usual, thank you. But, where would you rest?" Gorm was happy with Heath's high regard but thought that Heath may choose to rest by the top of one of the two towers, he was wrong. "I do not need sleep, I will not choose a home yet." Heath stated.
"Technically this whole realm is your home." Jorg tried to insert as a side of humour, though it was promptly ignored except for an eyebrow twitch by Heath. "You are right, but I feel as if there is an increased risk every time I use more magic for us to be spotted. I must strengthen the ᛉ (Protection / Shield / Elk Rune)s further, I am the only one capable of providing it with sufficient magic for all of its upgrades. Then to focus onto other tasks." Heath comments, knowing it would be days of work to do. But he finds it a distraction for his mind.
Others caught onto it. "You do not want to continuously push yourself like when you created those devices, Heath. You must find some time for yourself. All of this could lead to your flame burning too brightly and dying early." Gorm tried to reason.
"But the Dökkálfar-" "Do not think of the Dökkálfar, they may be a threat even the gods themselves couldn't evade as they tried to attack them during the previous Ragnarök, but that doesn't mean every waking moment must be stressed over it. While you are not a fighter, you appear to be of greater capability than Þórr in terms of adaptability. Not in strength currently as he could defeat you in a few swings. But you are maturing. We have noticed your ways grow at a monstrous rate. Like the portal idea." Gorm was opinionated.
He was right, but Heath still had lingering concerns for his new family. "I care for you all, why should I not I be worried?" Heath asked directly. "We are not chicks waiting to be protected by its rooster-father." Hervor said suddenly, which spluttered his thought process.
"Not only that, you latched onto us too quickly, your time in the void alone must have made you too easily devoted to a single people. You should learn to calm yourself down, we wouldn't abandon you any less, you have given us a new chance at life within your great land. Even if it was sudden, it was only after 2 days of talking, after all." Hervor continued, she still wondered why they had agreed so easily, but she believed it was Heath's magnetic personality and honesty that helped them easily humanize someone so incomprehensible.
". . . That is my fault, I wanted you all to know of my honest intentions, which subconsciously willed itself upon Gorm, transferring my own 'feelings' onto you like a long talk between open minds, which had altered your perception to be more accepting, I only noticed it now, sorry."
". . . It's fine, just focus on finding a room in the new tower once you begin construction. We know you won't let us down." Gorm blinked slowly after being quickly uninfluenced by Heath.
