Chapter 37: Kaito, the Doll
What happened? Why was the entire parking lot covered in ice? Ayame tried to remove her plants from the ice, but they were stuck underneath. It seems like the ice was strong enough to trap her plants. Tetsuya slashed the ground, melting the ice, but Ayame's plants ended up dying because of the heat.
Surprised, Dr. Milo's lips curved into a crazy smile. It seemed that Winter and Nikolai had grown stronger. They weren't that strong when he looked at the camera footage from the destroyed village. He didn't expect that a remote village would produce such successful test subjects.
"Don't kill them, capture them alive," Dr. Milo ordered Ayame and Tetsuya.
The doctor sucked his teeth when he realized that his proud test subjects were no longer a match for Winter and Nikolai.
With her newfound power, Winter opened her cold eyes and walked confidently on the ice. The cold air escaped from her mouth as she lunged towards Tetsuya. She froze his sword and his body so that Nikolai would get a chance to steal the sword.
Nikolai snatched the sword away, making sure that it would be out of reach. Tetsuya yelled in pain as the flames engulfed his body. His old scars started to itch as the flames slowly burned his body. With a loud burst, his body turned blue, then white. The flames calmed down and surrounded his body, protecting him.
Tetsuya gazed at the white flames. The fire didn't hurt him anymore. It was as if he had become one with his superpowers. He didn't need a sword anymore to control his powers.
Winter clicked her tongue as she saw that Tetsuya had changed, too. The room temperature rose even higher now that his flames were white. Her ice melted slowly under the heat. How were they going to win now?
Dr. Milo laughed proudly and said, "I should thank you for coming here today. Because of you, my test subjects had evolved."
Due to the extreme heat, the kids started crying because of the uncomfortable temperature. If they stayed a bit longer in the parking lot, they would get roasted.
'What should I do now?' Valentin asked the system. He was afraid that he couldn't walk on his leg anymore, the poison had flowed into his bloodstream. If he doesn't get a remedy, his entire body will get paralyzed.
[The system has detected that you have high compatibility with the Kaito, the doll. You can make him yours by defeating his master.]
What did that have to do with his question? Was the system hinting to him to defeat Dr. Milo first? Maybe Dr. Milo didn't have any superpowers.
Kaito was a spatial magic user. He was the most powerful doll Dr. Milo created. Before the doctor experimented on humans, he focused on creating robot-like dolls. He had only succeeded in making Kaito. His other experiments with dolls were total failures; that's why he switched to human test subjects. Little did he know that he only succeeded by pure chance. Kaito was a being that had similar powers to the system; that's why he had high compatibility with Valentin.
'Can you help me with something?' Valentin asked the system.
[Of course! The system is at your service!]
Valentin took out the pocket knife he always carried around. It was the one he used to stab the hand of the fat man who harassed Seojin. He wouldn't be called Valentin if he didn't carry a weapon around.
"What are you going to do with a knife? You can't even walk," Dr. Milo mocked.
The doctor knew that Valentin's thigh bone was broken. There was no way that he could attack him with the knife.
The judge smirked and stabbed his thigh, plunging the knife into his wound, making sure that the remaining poison would get on it.
Dr. Milo laughed hysterically and asked, "Are you going to amputate your leg?"
Valentin threw the knife towards Nikolai, and the assassin caught it in mid-air. With the momentum, Nikolai lunged at the doctor and swung the blade. The doctor dodged the attack, but there was a small slit on his arm.
"A small wound like that won't kill me," the man laughed. It was funny how an assassin known for his speed missed his target.
"Are you sure about that?" Valentin snickered.
Suddenly, Dr. Milo's entire body became paralyzed. What was happening to him?
"What did you do to me?" he asked while gasping for breath. It was as if his throat and nose were clogged.
"I just smudged some poison on the knife," Valentin explained.
Dr. Milo fell on the ground, unable to move. He forced himself to stare at Valentin, waiting for his explanation.
"A poison that's 100 times more powerful," Valentin continued. He had asked the system to strengthen the poison by 100 times. It was enough to kill a human instantly.
The doctor's eyes popped out of his sockets. He never imagined that a small wound would cost his life. How did the judge even get a poison like that? He didn't understand.
Suddenly, the doctor realized that nothing had been going well for him since Valentin appeared. It was weird that Valentin and his friends always won despite being weaker than them. Ayame and Tetsuya were also weaker than usual. Normally, everyone whom Ayame had poisoned would die in less than 10 minutes. How come Valentin was still standing as if everything was fine?
The doctor's eyes opened in shock. It was the only body part he could move. What if Valentin also had superpowers, but was carefully hiding them? It was weird that Winter and Nikolai were already healed. He remembered that his test subjects told him that they had been annihilated and that Winter was on the verge of death. How was she healed in only two days?
The doctor sighed when he realized the truth. He had been too careless, thinking that his enemies were weak.
Dr. Milo tried to order Kaito to teleport him to the nearest hospital, but he couldn't make a sound; his vocal cords were paralyzed by the poison, too. Finally, the doctor closed his eyes unwillingly. Looks like his great ambitions won't come true. It was a shame. If Valentin had superpowers, Dr. Milo had hoped to catch him and do research on him. He was sure that the judge carried a power different from theirs. It would have been a great discovery of a higher kind of superpower.
