Chapter 23: Dwindled Hope

Luffy's eyes sparkled with amazement as he watched the enemies disappear into the sky. "That was awesome!" he exclaimed, a wide grin spreading across his face. "Lucas, your powers are so cool!"

Usopp, equally impressed, nodded vigorously. "Yeah, seriously! How did you do that? It's like you have a whole arsenal of superpowers!" He gaped in awe.

Lucas, chuckled. "It's nothing really." He rubbed the back of his neck, a bit sheepish from all the praise.

Zoro, observing the scene with his arms crossed, smirked. "You're full of surprises, aren't you, Lucas?"

Sanji took a drag from his cigarette, blowing out a plume of smoke. "Now that that's taken care of," he said, walking up the stairs, "we should go and get Nami to a hospital."

"Hospital?" Usopp asked, his brow furrowing in confusion.

"Just come along and you'll see," Sanji replied as they headed inside, finding the portal still open.

"Woah, what is that?" Luffy asked, his eyes wide with wonder.

"Sigh, this might take a minute," Lucas said, stepping up. He explained that the portal led to GreenHaven, and Vivi suggested they take Nami to see a doctor there.

"So what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Luffy exclaimed, charging through the portal without hesitation. He emerged on the other side, standing in the front yard of Lilian's house.

Lilian, expecting them, greeted Luffy with a warm smile. "Hello," she said, her eyes bright.

"Oh, hi! Are you the doctor? It's nice to meet you," Luffy greeted her back, his tone cheerful.

"It's not her, you idiot. She's the one who'll guide us to a doctor. And don't go running off on your own," Sanji said, stepping through the portal with Nami on his back. Vivi and Usopp followed, while Zoro, Igaram, and Carue stayed on the ship.

"Woah, we really are on an island. This is crazy! I wish I could go anywhere I wanted like this," Usopp remarked, looking around in awe.

Hearing Usopp's wish, Vivi froze for a brief moment, a flicker of hope crossing her mind. She quickly refocused on Nami, determined to help her friend.

"It's not that simple, you know. I first have to mark the location, so if I've never been there, I can't travel there," Lucas explained, addressing Usopp's remark. He glanced at Vivi, sensing her unspoken request. "But there is a loophole to that," he added, resuming their walk.

Vivi felt a silent joy, believing there was still hope.

As they walked, Lilian turned to Lucas. "So that's your captain?" she asked, glancing at Luffy with curiosity.

"I know it's hard to believe, but that is the truth," Sanji responded, a hint of pride in his voice.

They arrived at the town's hospital, filled with anticipation and hope for Nami's health. The doctor, not busy at the time, attended to Nami immediately. The crew waited anxiously, their hearts heavy with concern.

After a while, the doctor emerged, his expression grave. "What! What do you mean?" Sanji yelled, his voice filled with desperation.

"I understand your frustration, but I'm sorry. The required medication for this disease is not available on this island. We simply can't treat her," the doctor explained, his tone regretful.

The Straw Hats were devastated. "Damn it," Sanji cursed, punching the wall in frustration. Usopp and Vivi held back tears, their hearts aching for their friend.

"If the story you told me is true, then I'd suggest you seek help from a doctor in one of the settlements on the Grand Line. I'm sure you'd have a better chance of finding a cure there. But I do urge you to hurry, if you can," the doctor advised before leaving them with their thoughts.

"Things are looking good," Vivi thought, hope blossoming in her heart. But as there was no help available, they readied themselves to head back to the Merry. As they boarded, the ship had stopped, anchored in place.

"Oh, you're back," Zoro remarked, his keen eyes scanning their expressions. "How'd it go?" he asked, but the sight of Nami on Sanji's back told him all he needed to know. "I see," Zoro said, his voice heavy with understanding.

"We just found an island nearby. Maybe they can help," Zoro added, offering a glimmer of hope with what the doctor had told them.

The portal closed as they walked up to the main deck. "So it's a hard-to-cure disease," Zoro said, pondering the situation.

"But still, are there even people on this island?" Zoro wondered aloud.

"Pirates! Stop right there!" A shout echoed across the deck. The Merry had dropped anchor, surrounded by townspeople armed and ready to defend their home.

"There are people. Now let's go save Nami," Luffy declared, his resolve unwavering.

"W... Wait a minute, Luffy. These people don't seem that welcoming to me," Usopp said, his voice quivering with fear.

"Pirates aren't welcome here. Turn around immediately and leave our island at once," another townsman ordered, his tone hostile.

"W-wait a minute! Our friend is really sick, and we need a doctor to take care of her," Luffy responded, his voice earnest.

"Lies! You're trying to trick us into letting our guard down," another townsperson accused.

"If you don't leave, we'll make you leave," someone else threatened.

"Wow, talk about a first impression," Sanji muttered, exasperation creeping into his voice.

"Shut up, you pirate scum!" a townsperson shouted, firing at Sanji. The bullet missed, hitting the ground near his foot as Sanji dodged.

"Woah, he fired at us," Usopp panicked, his eyes wide with fear.

"Is that how it is?" Sanji said menacingly, glaring at the shooter. His intent to attack was clear in his eyes, causing the townsperson to recoil in fear.

Vivi rushed to intervene, but the same townsperson fired again, nearly hitting her. The bullet froze in mid-air, stopped by Lucas using telekinesis.

"That almost hit her," Usopp exclaimed, his voice trembling.

"How dare you!" Luffy shouted, his anger boiling over as the Straw Hats prepared to attack.

But Vivi held Luffy back, bowing deeply before the townspeople. "Princess!" Igaram exclaimed, shocked by her humility.

"Vivi," Luffy called, his voice full of concern.

"Luffy, please, can't you see? We won't solve anything by fighting. Think of Nami right now," she pleaded, her voice breaking.

Luffy saw her gesture and understood the gravity of the situation. He bowed as well, his voice sincere and regretful. "I'm sorry! I was wrong. We are only here to find a doctor to save our friend. We beg you, please save our friend," he said.

The gesture touched the hearts of the townspeople, and they saw the sincerity in the pirates' eyes. They felt a pang of remorse for their harshness.

"Haaa! We'll... We'll lead you to our town. You can bring your friend as well," the leader of the townspeople said, his voice softening.

"But let me notify you, from here on, this country only has one doctor, and she happens to be a witch. She's also a person who's hard to find," he added, his tone serious.
