Chapter 591: Chapter 0591: Countermeasures (Third Update Request for Subscription)

“The Jackal Men and Centaur tribes near Dylan Port primarily belong to the ‘Black Stone’ and ‘Bloodhoof’ factions… However, the ‘Bloodhoof’ Centaur Tribe was raided by the Empire a few years ago, and many adult centaurs were captured as slaves. Currently, they cannot pose much of a threat to the colonies…”

In Dylan Port, inside the Defence Mansion.

Rod and Su Lu were sitting in chairs, staring at a map in front of them.

Elena was holding a pointer stick and explaining the situation to the two high officials of the Mansion: “‘Bloodhoof’ Tribe is located on Blood Hill, while ‘Black Stone’ Tribe is on the edge of Rot Swamp… Recently, there is evidence that many scattered Jackal Man teams have emerged from the other side of the Rot Swamp to join the Black Stone Tribe or to become wanderers, posing a stern challenge to the safety of the colonial settlements.”

“In this case, the Centaurs do not pose an immediate threat. The growing number of Jackal Men is the urgent problem that Dylan Port needs to address.”

Rod looked at Su Lu and took the initiative to speak.

“That’s correct, lord of the mansion.”

Elena responded with a slight bow, feeling somewhat sentimental.

Apocalypse, War, Death…

All three knights of the ‘Spirit Lord’ had gathered here, undoubtedly signifying a catastrophe for the Transcendent species around Dylan Port.

“The Jackal Man tribes on the other side of the swamp—why do they take the enormous risk of crossing the swamp?” Rod asked.

“Naturally, it’s because of a terrible accident that took place on the other side of the swamp… leading to the extinction of a large number of species… suspected to be the revival of some ‘ancient species’… but it’s definitely not a Giant Dragon.”

Elena received this information later.

She sighed heavily, “Because dragons have a natural ‘Dragon Might’, a kind of psychological field that enslaves lower-level Transcendent species. The Jackal Men belong to this category.”

If a dragon had appeared on the other side of the swamp, even the ‘Black Stone’ Tribe here might be unable to resist crossing over to pledge allegiance, forming a ‘Jackal Man Kingdom’!

This was a behavior ingrained in their bloodline.

As for what ancient species exactly it was – aside from the Giant Dragon – even if the most knowledgeable archaeologist was brought over, they might not be able to figure it out.

After all, there are just too many ‘mysteries’ on the Dark Continent.

“Well, our present mission is to rid ourselves of the Black Stone Tribe, as well as a few large groups of exiled Jackal Men…. Explain the situation.”

Rod rubbed his brows.

“Adult Jackal Men generally possess the strength of a first-level Physical Occupational Person, which is manageable with firearms. The real trouble is the professionals amongst them… Currently the Jackal Men generally choose from two career paths, one being the faith-based path represented by the [Priest] class, and the other is the spell-casting abilities manifested through the awakening of their bloodline, known as [Warlock]! Besides, there are scattered individuals treading on other paths, which are somewhat similar to [Berserker], but are very rare.”

“Most importantly, we need to beware of the totems of each tribe, a type of Nature Spirit. The stronger the tribe, the stronger their guardian totems- they can even reach the level of a False God.”

Elena said with a serious expression:

“The totem of the ‘Black Stone’ Tribe is a powerful Spiritual Body that requires vast offerings each year…And what we really need to watch out for is the possibility that a High Priest has brought their totem while fleeing. A heavily injured totem needs replenishment— they’ll hunt every living being in desperation.”

“Leave these matters to me.”

Su Lu said calmly.

Totems, or Nature Spirits, might have diverse origins, but they generally prefer blood sacrifice and faith, and therefore tended to be worshipped by the native tribes.

Moreover, it’s possible that they included unique Cursed Spirits. Communication with them was completely impossible, but the priests grotesquely and bloodily experimented to make use of their curse patterns.

The truly strong ones could possibly be called ‘False Gods’!

— They responded to prayers within a limited scope and possessed the power equivalent to that of a fifth or sixth level professional person.

Although they couldn’t withstand an encounter with a Divine Incarnation, these entities were densely distributed throughout the Dark Continent. Their deep-rooted presence meant that it would take more than a day or two to eliminate them.

“The primary issue facing the Defence Mansion now is to wipe out those Jackal Man tribes who crossed the swamp… As for the other totems, and even the Black Stone Tribe, I’ll handle those.”

Su Lu stood up, ending the discussion.

“Yes, we follow your rulings.”

Elena replied with respect.

After all, this ‘Apocalypse Knight’ was a special devotee of the Lord and the leader of Round Table Knights Group, and was bound to be the first Pope of the future church.

After Elena left, Rod curiously looked at Su Lu: “What are you planning to do?”

“Is something this trivial even worth considering?”

Su Lu gave him a surprised look: “Just kill or seal the totems of the Black Stone and Bloodhoof Tribes and I’ll take their place for the time being… After all, with the current strength of Dylan Port, the area around the swamp can’t be expanded yet, and their occupation of it will suffice. As for the rest, I’ll secretly coordinate with the pirate guards and we’ll round them up.”

“Well… that’s a straightforward and ruthless strategy indeed.”

Rod glanced at his younger brother, finally getting the picture.

A professional person’s lifestyle begins to gradually change from the fifth level onwards, and at the sixth level, they accumulate a Mythical Body.

At the seventh level, their life transitions to no longer fitting within the original species.

Therefore, for a Divine, humans, as well as Jackal Men, were all the same: ‘objects of faith’.

The other noticeable fact was the strong ‘human flavor’ Su Lu possessed, which had led him into the illusion that ‘Gods’ were ‘human’.

Such was the case when humans became gods. What about those gods whose original forms were unknown?

At this moment, Rod suddenly felt a chill running down his spine.

He deeply realized one truth: equivalent exchange was – as ever – the law of the Mysterious Realm.

Even with the constraints and control of the professional system, the power that the Mysterious offered was still too potent, enough to alter every professional person unknowingly!

“Are you in fear, terrified?”

Su Lu detected the emotion and turned to Rod.

“Yes…” Rod shook his head wryly, “I just remembered a question you asked earlier: If a ship is constantly replacing its parts during a journey, then what is the real ‘ship’ at the end of the journey? Is it the new ship with all the parts replaced, or the old ship made up with all the discarded parts?”

“It’s the new ship!”

Su Lu replied with a smile: “Besides, you made a mistake: the discarded parts might be used to make the ‘old ship’, but the things that a professional person loses during the growth can’t form a ‘man’ when put together. At most, they form a freakishly mad Evil Spirit or Beast. Therefore… the true self resides within oneself!”
