Chapter 403: Vauleth
"Vauleth" doesn't have many early memories.
He only recalls living in a haze, drifting in the wind. Sometimes it felt as though he'd become an extremely small ant and live its life serving its queen.
Then there were the many years he'd spent in a daze as a towering tree.
Unfortunately, none of his 'past lives' had been as particularly intelligent or powerful creatures, and so he barely had any consciousness or self-awareness.
That is until one day as a dying (the memories were hazy…) mayfly (?) his weakening body landed on a cool round and white object. It was an egg composed of what looked like white scales.
Until then, all of the creatures that Vauleth had become were ordinary animals or plants. Since he needed to consume and take the genes of the creature he infects into himself to form his own body based on these genes, he wouldn't be able to overpower a dragon to do so—even a defective unborn one.
Thankfully, the white dragon that was originally within this egg was on the verge of death and was never going to hatch.
Therefore, although it took many years, the dragon within the egg was eventually replaced by another smaller white 'dragon' created using the genes stolen by Vauleth from the original.
However, for some reason, the dragon marks that had long been absent on the surface of the egg, took the moment when Vauleth had completely taken over to appear.
At that moment, the dormant genes in the dragon bloodline that Vauleth had spliced up and incorporated into himself seemed to undergo a shift and a large influx of information was transmitted into his unborn mind.
With the newfound strength and knowledge from this change, Vauleth managed to break free from the egg and at the moment of its hatching… "Agrellatheg Albinai Thlaaklauthimir"
That was the name that instinctively appeared in his mind. Or rather her mind. In this first iteration as a dragon, he was a she. A female white dragon named Agrellatheg or Agrella.
Based on the hazy memories present in the bloodline, she'd fumblingly made her way back to the dragon's ridge.
Although the dragons in the ridge had been surprised by the sudden new young dragon, upon her uttering her true name, they acknowledged her as a true dragon and accepted her into their fold.
They all understood that this was likely a hatchling from an abandoned defective egg that had developed its bloodline markings after being discarded in the wild.
Although, whether it was due to the marking appearing late, or due to "Agrella" not truly being a dragon, a lot of information seemed to be missing from its bloodline inheritance.
Therefore, aside from being smaller and weaker than the average true dragon, Agrella was also much dumber.
Perhaps she should be thankful that the first dragon she'd turned into was a white dragon, which already had a reputation as the weakest and dumbest of the coloured dragons. Therefore, although this was Agrella/Vauleth's first time as an intelligent creature and she/he lacked a lot of common sense—none of the other dragons dug too much into it.
White dragons are already known to be weak and stupid, this white dragon just happens to be more weak and dumb than average. But no matter how inferior Agrella was to the average dragon, she was still considered a true dragon and superior to those defects without a bloodline inheritance and was allowed to stay in the colony.
However, coloured dragons were not known for being kind. As the weakest of their kind, Agrella was the punching bag for all the other young dragons.
However, even the weakest bullied dragon, was still a much better life than its previous lives as short-lived ordinary insects or plants.
Unfortunately, the longer Agrella lived, the more subtle differences began to appear from the normal aging of a dragon.
For one, Agrella seemed to reach adulthood quicker than the average dragon.
Upon reaching adulthood she also wasn't able to reach blue-grade like the average dragon.
Finally, Agrella didn't go through the same "maturation" changes as other adult dragons that would—ahem—allow for reproduction.
After having to dodge the concerned examination of the elders in the clan, Agrella decided to simply disappear one day.
Eventually, Agrella disappeared from all of their minds. After all, she wasn't closely related to any of them and there were hundreds of young dragons in the clan to take care of.
Years later a slightly dumb and smaller-than-average male black dragon that must have hatched from an abandoned egg returned to the clan. Unfortunately, this slightly dumb dragon seemed to have died or gotten lost when going hunting one day.
A few years later, a smaller-than-average female blue dragon from an abandoned egg entered the clan. But this time his intelligence was comparable to its kin—if anything he could even be considered a little clever.
Finally, most recently, a clever little red dragon had appeared at the base of the mountain range named "Vaulethaerha Admonai Cauridillec."
This incarnation, without question, was the best one yet!
He had managed to find an abandoned egg from the Red Dragon clan—the strongest of the coloured dragons.
Even with his inherent limitations that allowed him to have only 70% of the full strength of a same-aged red dragon, he was still stronger than most coloured dragons.
He was stronger than the physically weak and dumb white dragons his age. Their icy dragon's breath was completely incapable of penetrating his ruby scales.
The cunning blue dragons more known for their elemental control over the lightning attribute, were also no threat to him. All their cunning tricks had no role in front of absolute strength.
The poisonous green gas sprayed from the highly deceptive green dragons only made him a little dizzy, but it didn't have too much of an impact.

Only other red dragons, and the most cruel and sadistic of the coloured, the black dragons, who were comparable to red dragons in strength and only slightly weaker in their magic abilities, could pose a threat to him with their corrosive acid breath.
Moreover, he'd even managed to befriend the sole heir of the Red Dragon King, allowing him to act unbridled within the clan with the young prince as his backing.
But now, all of his efforts to gain a foothold within the dragon clan and the life of 'infinite reincarnation' he'd gotten accustomed to, may end up imploding due to this human that he could instinctively sense was a threat to the exposure of his true identity.
