Chapter 103
Chapter 103: Accomplice?
“You—how the hell do you have so many personal points?!”
Kushida stared at Hikigaya in utter disbelief, her eyes searching his face for any clues. But Hikigaya only responded with a meaningful smile before taking back his phone.
Kushida had already felt uneasy about Hikigaya’s unpredictability, but now, after seeing over a million personal points on his phone, an overwhelming fear washed over her—like the deep, suffocating dread of facing an unknown darkness alone.
It was the fear of the unknown.
While everyone in Class D was struggling with personal points, Hikigaya somehow, without a word, had accumulated over a million of them? How had he done it? Where had these points come from? And more importantly… Who exactly is Hikigaya Hachiman?!
Her mind was a chaotic mess, and the plan she had carefully prepared was now completely thrown off by this unexpected development.
“This isn’t something you need to know,” Hikigaya replied indifferently, then sat back down in his chair, studying Kushida with amusement. “Now that I’ve given you this leverage, does it make you feel safe?”
Kushida froze for a moment before realizing what he meant. “This… this is an exchange?”
Hikigaya nodded calmly. “You were afraid because you had no leverage over me. But now you do. A bottom-tier student like me having this many personal points—no one would ever believe that there’s nothing suspicious about it. Right?”
Kushida instantly understood. She knew exactly what kind of people made up Class D. If they found out that Hikigaya, the outcast of the class, had such an absurd amount of points, they wouldn’t be able to accept it.
No one could easily accept that someone they considered beneath them was actually doing better, was richer than they were. Because acknowledging that would mean admitting their own inferiority—that they were worse off than even the class’s lowest-ranked misfit.
It was the same old truth: People don’t mind their friends suffering, but they do mind when those same friends suddenly start driving a luxury car.
And in this case, Hikigaya wasn’t even their friend.
Kushida understood human jealousy all too well—it was an absolutely terrifying force when unleashed.
She could already picture it: Hikigaya being shunned, criticized, and, most of all, righteously pressured to hand over his points to “help the class.” And if things escalated further, someone might even report him for “illegally obtained points,” which could lead to his expulsion.
Just imagining these possibilities made Kushida’s throat go dry. This was a piece of leverage that could destroy Hikigaya.
And yet… she didn’t feel happy about finally having something to use against him. Instead, she was on edge, warily staring at the dead-fish-eyed boy in front of her. “What’s your angle? Why would you tell me this secret?”
She didn’t even realize that her voice was trembling slightly.
“The answer should be obvious. It’s a trade.”
Hikigaya’s expression was unreadable. “Now, you don’t have to worry about me exposing your… explosive—ah, I mean, true nature. And in return, I don’t have to deal with you constantly being on guard against me. It’s a win-win, don’t you think?”
At first glance, it made sense. But Kushida wasn’t naive enough to accept it so easily. She frowned deeply. “No. No one would be stupid enough to hand over their own weakness like this. Even Ike or Yamauchi—those absolute morons—wouldn’t do something this dumb!”
Besides, there was something else that didn’t add up. Hikigaya had the upper hand. So why would he make such a foolish move? No matter how she looked at it, this felt like a trap.
And yet… if it was a trap, it was too real. That personal points balance she saw on his phone wasn’t fake.
“Foolish, huh?”
Hikigaya chuckled. “Yeah, you’re right. If I weren’t this foolish, I wouldn’t be at the bottom of the class.”
Then, his expression darkened. “So go ahead, Kushida. Try exposing my weakness and see what happens. The truth will come out, one way or another.”
“But…”
His voice suddenly turned ice-cold.
“You’d better be prepared to go down to hell with me. Understand, Class D’s little angel?”
“……”
Kushida opened her mouth, but no words came out. For a brief moment, it felt like she couldn’t breathe—like the dead-fish-eyed boy in front of her had turned into a demon, ready to drag her into the depths of hell with him.
This wasn’t just a compromise.
It was a threat.
Just Like Last Night!
“Alright! Deal!”
Kushida still couldn’t fully grasp Hikigaya’s true intentions, but in the end, she decided to temporarily “trust” him. As for whether she would expose his weakness to others, she had to admit that the thought had crossed her mind. However, she also understood that if she did, it would mean that one of them would have to be completely destroyed.
So… for now, was this safe?
No, there was still a deep question lingering in Kushida’s mind—one she needed to ask while she had the chance.
“Hikigaya, are you also aiming for Class A like that damn woman?”
“Class A? No, unlike Horikita’s little sister, I have no interest in Class A at all.”
Kushida carefully observed Hikigaya’s expression, trying to read any subtle changes. Unfortunately, his poker face gave away nothing useful.
“A student at this school not interested in Class A?”
Her tone was laced with sarcasm. “Then why did you even come to this school? If that’s the case, Hikigaya, you might as well just drop out already.”
“Drop out, huh…”
For the first time, a flicker of emotion appeared on Hikigaya’s face. “To be honest, I actually considered that option when I first enrolled…”
Hearing this, Kushida’s eyes lit up with excitement. She quickly pressed on, trying to push him further.
“That’s right! Since you have no interest in Class A, and you got dumped into Class D—the absolute worst class—where you’re constantly being ridiculed and shunned by those pigs, why stay? Wouldn’t it be better to just leave?”
Hikigaya didn’t seem to notice Kushida’s ulterior motives.
“Yeah… why am I still staying in this damn school?”
He closed his eyes and let out a deep sigh. When he opened them again, there was no hesitation, no doubt—only a profound, dark resolve.
“Because there’s one person I can’t betray. The idiot who protected me—the idiot who believed in me.”
Kushida’s brow furrowed deeply, frustration written all over her face. She had been so close…
Just as she was about to continue pressing him, Hikigaya suddenly interrupted.
“Hey… Kushida, time’s about up, isn’t it? Your little mind games—shouldn’t they end here?”
“Wh-What do you mean? I don’t understand.”
A flicker of panic flashed across Kushida’s face.
