The Ytherrian Luminary

Chapter 10: Chapter 10: The Final Test Xalin vs. Master Serion

The arena was grand and ancient, with intricate carvings etched into its walls and pillars, depicting the history of Luminaras greatest warriors. The arena itself was built over a wide, circular body of water, with platforms of ice floating across its surface. The sky above was a bright azure, and the air hummed with the faint energy of the divine magic that permeated the land. This was the last test Xalin must face, a trial against Master Serion, known for his deep understanding of water manipulation and his unparalleled control over the element.

Master Serion stood at one end of the arena, tall and calm, his silvery-blue robes flowing gently in the wind. His long, white hair was tied back, and his face, though aged, held the wisdom and experience of many battles. His deep-set blue eyes reflected the calm waters around him, but behind them lay an intensity that demanded respect.

At the opposite end stood Xalin, his black flame abilities suppressed for this trial, wearing traditional blue waterbending robes. His focus was sharp; this was his final test, one that would determine if he had mastered waterbending well enough to continue his journey.

Kell and Lira sat in the stands alongside a group of students and elders. Kell leaned forward, his arms resting on his knees. "This is it," he muttered, his voice filled with anticipation. "Lets see how much the kids learned."

Lira nodded, her eyes never leaving Xalin. "Hes come so far but this is going to be a real challenge."

As the two benders faced each other, the tension in the arena was palpable. The students whispered among themselves, wondering if Xalin could hold his own against a master like Serion. A single drop of water fell from the sky and touched the surface of the water, marking the beginning of the battle.

Master Serion moved first, extending his arms in a fluid motion. Instantly, the calm surface of the water between them began to ripple. With a mere flick of his wrist, Serion pulled a massive wave from the water, arching it high into the air. The wave towered over Xalin, ready to crash down with immense force.

Kell's eyes widened. "Here we go."

Xalin didn't hesitate. With a quick, smooth motion, he thrust his hands forward, bending the water around him and creating a large dome-shaped shield. The wave crashed down, but Xalins shield absorbed the impact, splashing water around the arena but leaving him untouched.

Lira exhaled softly. "He's holding his ground."

Serion smiled, clearly testing his student. He stepped to the side and raised his hand, sending a series of sharp, blade-like streams of water toward Xalin. The blades cut through the air with precision, each one aimed to force Xalin to defend.

Xalin flicked his wrists, sending out a stream of water blades of his own. They collided in midair, sending droplets of water raining down over the arena. He quickly followed up by stepping into a spin, raising a vortex of water around him to deflect the remaining attacks.

"He's fast," one of the students muttered, impressed by Xalins reaction speed.

Serion watched carefully, clearly deciding that it was time to raise the stakes. Thrusting his hands into the water below, Serion bent the liquid into serpentine shapes. Two large water serpents rose from the lake, writhing and twisting through the air with a life of their own.

Kell whistled. "The serpents. That's advanced stuff."

With a sharp command, Serion sent the serpents flying toward Xalin. Their watery forms snaked through the air, ready to coil and crush him.

Xalin concentrated, knowing he needed to counter quickly. He raised his hands and sent two water whips, wrapping them around the serpents heads. The serpents twisted and thrashed, but Xalin stood firm, pulling them down with a burst of strength. As the serpents crashed into the water, Xalin froze the surface, trapping them beneath the ice.

The crowd gasped, murmurs of approval spreading among the students. Master Serion, however, remained calm.

"Well done, Xalin," Serion said, his voice echoing across the arena. But there was a shift in his stance he was no longer holding back.

With a powerful sweep of his arm, Serion drew a massive amount of water from the lake. The water rose into the sky, swirling and forming a gigantic vortex above the arena. The wind howled as the vortex spun faster and faster.

"This is going to be intense," Kell muttered, leaning forward.

Xalin braced himself, his eyes fixed on the swirling mass of water overhead. Serion thrust his hands forward, sending the vortex crashing down toward Xalin. It was a wall of water and force, capable of overwhelming even the strongest of benders.

Xalin spread his arms wide, feeling the divine energy within him resonate. He pulled from the water around him, forming a barrier of his own. The two masses of water collided in a tremendous explosion of liquid, sending waves and splashes flying everywhere.

In the midst of the chaos, Xalin bent the water beneath his feet, lifting himself into the air. He twisted his body, creating a spiral of water around him, deflecting Serions attack and sending it spiraling out of control.

Serions vortex dissipated, and Xalin landed back on the ice, his breathing heavy but controlled.

"Hes got great instincts," Lira whispered, impressed by Xalins adaptability.

Master Serion watched Xalin with an appraising gaze. Seeing that his student had adapted and grown stronger with every move, Serion decided it was time to push Xalin to his limits. The water around him stilled, and the air grew cold.

Xalin, sensing something powerful coming, readied himself. But before he could react, Serion brought his arms down, freezing the entire lake and all the platforms around them. The ice was thick and solid, trapping Xalins movements.

"That's a masters touch," one of the elders whispered from the stands, watching in awe.

Serion raised one hand to the sky, and sharp ice pillars shot up from the frozen lake, aiming to trap and pierce Xalin. Each pillar moved with precision, closing in from every angle.

Xalin reacted instinctively, bending the water within the ice around him. He forced the ice to crack, then melted it into water, allowing him to dodge the incoming pillars. But it was clear that Serions mastery of ice was overwhelming. Xalin was struggling to keep up with the relentless attacks.

At that moment, something inside Xalin shifted. His eyes flashed white for a brief moment, and the markings on his body glowed faintly. He felt the divine energy stirring within him, but not fully awakened yet.

Kell noticed the shift. "Did you see that?" he whispered to Lira. "He's tapping into the Luminary power."

With a deep breath, Xalin called upon the water beneath him, creating a powerful whirlpool. The ice that once restricted him was now his weapon. He spun his arms in wide circles, pulling the ice shards into the whirlpool and launching them back at Serion.

Serion was caught off guard for the first time, his eyes widening as he raised a barrier of water to block the incoming shards. The ice shattered against his defense, but the sheer force of Xalins attack caused him to stagger.

The students in the stands erupted in cheers, amazed by Xalins resilience.

Master Serion, impressed but determined, drew in all the moisture around him, creating a massive spear of ice. He thrust it toward Xalin with precision and speed.

Xalin, drawing on his final reserves of energy, raised both hands. He channeled all of his waterbending into a single, massive wave. The wave rose high above him and crashed down toward Serions spear.

The two forces collided in midair, sending shockwaves through the arena. Water and ice exploded in every direction, and for a moment, it seemed the battle was at a standstill.

But then, with a final push, Xalin bent the remnants of the wave, sending it crashing down on Serion. The master was thrown back, landing on the ice with a heavy thud.

Kell stood up, unable to contain his excitement. "He did it!"

---

Xalin stood, panting, but victorious. The water around them stilled, and the arena fell silent. Serion slowly rose to his feet, brushing ice from his robes. There was no anger or disappointment in his eyes only respect.

"You've proven yourself, Xalin," Serion said, his voice calm. "You've mastered the art of waterbending and shown the potential to go even further. The divine energy within you is strong, but you still have much to learn."

Xalin bowed deeply, humbled by the praise. The crowd of students and elders stood in awe, murmuring among themselves about the sheer power and skill they had just witnessed.
