Chapter 258: Tai Alix.
After her sham of a wedding, the TFX winter jewelry fashion show was perhaps the most elegant event which Alix had ever attended. Despite members of the Zhang family being present, she sat with the Tai's at the insistence of grandpa Tai. In fact, he insisted that she sit between chairman Tai and auntie Mo which delighted auntie Mo to the fullest as she could share gossip on most of the models or attendees easily which she did for most part of the night.
"That model, she is so pretty but she is chairman Pai's baby, you know that kind of baby, the sponsored one."
"Do you see her nose, she secretly got it done last year and she thinks we don't know."
"Her shoes are fake, don't believe what she posts on weibo, everything from her head to toe is not real."
Mostly, Alix nodded along and commented where necessary. Some of the information her aunt shared was juicy, some useful and most useless. But the way aunt Mo did it was so natural that one would think they were talking about the jewelry on the models.
She would point to the models, smile and then say something completely unrelated. At some point, Alix wanted to tell her aunt that she would get along quite well with Jin Kang. They would become best friends if they got the chance to spend time together.
Auntie Mo's desire to talk spilled over onto the Zhang's eventually, landing on Zhang Xian. "Pretty baby, who is that man sitting next to your husband's father? Is he one of the relatives from the second or third branch of your family?"
It was hard to miss Zhang Xian, and anyone that had eyes would naturally be curious about him after witnessing the way the Zhang family elders were treating him. Grandma Zhang kept touching his arm and wiping the sweat on the sides of his face as if he was a child and grandpa Zhang kept smiling at him. Most of their attention was on Zhang Xian rather than the show.
Besides, with that long scar on his face, Zhang Xian's face was also an invitation for others to look and ponder. There was certainly a lot of interest in him and it was not just from auntie Mo.
Alix leaned her head over and whispered, "Auntie, grandfather will personally introduce him later."
With that answer, Alix thought that this would bring an end to the Zhang Xian curiosity but unexpectedly, Chairman Tai leaned over too and he said, "He looks really familiar. I feel like I have seen him before but I can't place the face."
Alix turned her head to the left and her disbelieving eyes looked at the chairman. When did he start listening to their conversation? He had been quiet all along, maintaining a serious look as he focused on the runway. How did he overhear aunt Mo's question?
"First uncle, have we been talking so loudly?" she asked him.
"No, I just happened to overhear this particular question. Your aunt can be as silent as a moving cat when she is gossiping." He answered.
Alix chuckled because the description was pretty accurate. Aunt Mo on the other hand did not appreciate the comparison and she glared at her husband lightly. Even Alix received a share of the glare for chuckling.
Chairman Tai then said slowly to Alix, "Don't laugh; your aunt will make me kneel outside on the balcony if she is unhappy."
Alix giggled even more because the image of this big and rich man being forced to kneel on the balcony as a punishment by his wife that was only half his size was ridiculous. If that was her go to punishment then he was doing it willingly. You could never catch Lin Qianfan being punished in such a manner, not even being threatened to be punished like this.
When his name crossed her mind, her eyes moved to the second row on the opposite side of the runway. He was there, Lin Qianfan, her biological father. He had come with Jing Hee and Billi and they had all on different occasions signaled at her when she glanced at them a few times. It was hard not to look when her mind kept questioning why they were in attendance. She was sure that the Tai's had not invited them and she didn't mention it last night at that akward dinner.
Her father smiled and waved at her. Alix looked away quickly as if she had just seen the most abnormal thing in the world. A smile from Lin Qianfan had to be the creepiest thing in the world, for her, anyway. She wondered what in the world had brought him out.
"What's wrong?" aunt Mo asked her.
She moved her head and her eyes around curiously. It was not a challenge for her to spot Lin Qianfan, still smiling in their direction. He waved at her as well and her upper body moves.
"Oh my goodness!" she exclaimed as if she had seen something so horrible. She looked at Alix immediately. "Pretty baby, don't look at them if you don't want to."
She put an arm around Alix's shoulders and turned her gently so that she didn't have to look in the direction. "Ignore them, treat them like air. If they try anything, I will teach them a lesson like I did last time."
While she told Alix not to look at them, she in turn looked and glared especially at Jing Hee. "Tsk, tsk, that wicked stepmother." She whispered. If Alix was a child whose head she could hide in her chest, she would be doing so already. She so much wanted to alert security and throw them out but she didn't want to create an unnecessary fuss so instead, she swallowed her displeasure.
"Auntie, look the model I recommended is out." Alix tugged on aunt Mo's hand and said proudly.
She had not heard from Aang ever since the day they met, despite having given him her number. But she had heard from Ho Sun that he would be modeling their jewelry. With his good looks, fierce aura and height, it was hard for him not to stand out.
"What a beautiful boy." Her aunt said.
Alix recalled that she referred him pretty while Ho Sun called him good looking. There were many words that one could use to describe his good looks.
"He would look good in adverts too. Aunt, don't you think so?"
"He would look good on anything." She answered.
The two were not whispering anymore and chairman Tai heard them and he rolled his eyes. "I was better looking than that in my younger days." He mumbled jealously. He raised his head, jutting his chin out proudly.
"Look, look, see your uncle. He is still jealous at his age." Aunt Mo whispered to Alix.
The two put their heads together and snickered while hiding their faces behind the jewelry catalog which had been handed out earlier in the night to everyone that entered the venue.
"If you two keep snickering then you will scare the models into thinking that they are doing something wrong." He told them.
For the rest of the show, they were on their best behavior which they maintained even during the interaction with guests which followed. During that time, Alix was dragged by one brother after the other to meet their friends.
The older brothers were proud to introduce her as their younger sister and the younger brothers referred to her as only sister. The one thing they all seemed to have agreed on was using the Tai name when they introduced her. Everyone that didn't know about her true origins went home convinced that she was Tai Alix truly.
The Lin's kept trying to approach her but the Tai's outnumbered them, and so did the Zhangs. Successfully, they kept Alix away from them to the great infuriation of Lin Qianfan. He eventually succeeded in cornering her at the drinks table but Alix turned around like a child and yelled.
"Father, godfather."
Grandma Tai noticed first because he was keeping an eye on Alix. She tapped him on the shoulder and chairman Tai abandoned his friends and rushed over to her side quickly. He put a hand on Alix's shoulder.
"My precious daughter, what's wrong? Is he bothering you? Should we call the police?"
Lin Qianfan cursed and scurried away.
Alix went back to enjoying herself. She had many backers here.
