Chapter 415: Maxen
(From Blue's Perspective)
"Who was that man?" Cyan asked as we got out of the taxi. He tried to hand the fare to the driver, but he did not accept it. Rather, he told me to live well and left.
"An old man."
"I can see that," he scoffed.
"His name is Joseph," I said. "He used to live near us."
"You give very less information, you know that?"
"Is that a compliment?"
"You damn well know it's not!"
"So, this is the hotel… Buy why is Max looking for me out of nowhere? Or, has he been looking for me the whole time?"
"Go and ask him that yourself," he shrugged.
I entered the hotel lobby with Cyan. The receptionist eyed me up and down and smiled. "Are you here for a room or two?" she asked.
"I am here to look for someone," I replied.
"What is that person's name and room number?"
"His name is Maxen Learley. I am not sure about his room number. He is my brother. I was informed he is staying here," I said.
"Maxen Learley? Let me check, please," she said, going through the list on the computer screen. "Yes, he is here."
"Can you please let him know his sister Blue is here?"
"Alright, please wait a moment."
"Good evening, Mr. Learley. Your sister Blue is here. Can you…? Oh, he hung up…"
"He did what?" I asked, surprised. "Did he say anything…?"
Before I could finish, someone hugged me out of nowhere. It did not take me long to understand who. But I was too surprised to hug him back right away, though I did eventually.
"Gosh… It's really you!"
"Are you crying?" I chuckled. "You are such a kid, aren't you, Max?"
"Where have you been this whole time? Why are you… dressed like you are going to a party? Are you hurt? Are you alright?" he asked breathlessly as a drop of tear fell from his left eye.
"Such a heartfelt reunion," Cyan scoffed. "But everyone is watching you two. Mind going outside?"
"Oh, yes…," I said. "Come with me, Max."
"Who is he?" Max asked, eyeing Cyan as we left the hotel lobby. "He looks like… you?"
"Long story," I said.
In the end, we went to a restaurant because Cyan wanted to try the food there. Cyan ordered a lot of things. I also ordered a few things. Maxen did not want to as he had a lot of questions and no appetite, but I kind of forced him.
"Tell me everything, Blue," he said. "What is going on? Where were you? And when did you get married? Or, is it not a wedding ring?"
He was looking at the ring on my right ring finger. "It is a wedding ring," I said. "I got married almost two years ago, right after leaving the family."
"To who?"
"His name is Demetrius Easton," I said. "He is a good person."
"Yeah, a very good person," Cyan chuckled.
"You are not helping!" I hissed at him. I looked at Max again and took a deep breath. "Alright. There will be a lot of information. Just… listen to me."
He gave a small nod. "First of all, yes, I am married. My husband is someone who takes care of me more than anyone else. He is good to me. He is the one who helped you."
"The person who sent money?" he asked.
"Yeah," I nodded.
"Why?"
"Because you are my brother? He told me about it," I said. "I am with him for almost two years now."
"Blue, is he the one who bought you? I saw ten million dollars at home," he said.
"…"
"… He is, isn't he? How can you call him a good person, Blue?"
"He did that to save me," I said. "He wanted to take me away. So, he acted that way. He also sent them to jail. He did not call the police first because he wanted to make sure I was safe and with him."
"You are confusing me, Blue."
"Which part?"
"Every! How can a random man even know about you? Doesn't it seem like he was stalking you?"
It did, in reality. But it was not Dem's own doing. He was not in his right mind. He was being controlled.
"Max…"
The waiter came to serve us our orders, putting a break to our conversation. It was after he left, I started to talk again.
"Forget about that. More importantly, you were right. Your father is not my father. And I have met my biological father," I said. "And this…"
I pointed at Cyan who was enjoying a burger wholeheartedly. "… is my biological brother. We are twins."
"Wait… What?"
"Yes," I gave a nod. "That's right. He is my twin brother. We share the same mother. In fact, the four of us share the same mother. But our fathers are different."
"Who is your father?" he asked.
"Uh… His name is Azure. I don't know much about him as we have met only once."
"How did you track your… twin brother down? Was he with your father?"
"No, he wasn't," I shook my head. "He lives alone. I found him via that… family tree thing on the internet."
"The DNA kit thing?" he asked.
"Yeah, that! That's the one. I always wondered who my real father was, so I took the test and found them there," I said. "Cyan lives in New York. And Azure lives in New York too, just different places."
"Where do you live?" he asked. "I looked for you. I went to the police, and gave them your photos. They think you have run away."
"It's kind of like that?"
"I am in Massachusetts now," he said. "I looked for you there too, not knowing if you truly were there.
"I was in England. I have been there for two years," I said.
"You sent me a letter two days ago to my address. You told me to meet you here," he said.
"How did you know it was written by me?"
"Well, obviously because of your handwriting and there was your name. Why are you asking that? You mean it was not you who sent it?"

"No, it was me!" I said quickly. "Who else would it be? Anyway, tell me about you."
"Nothing special. I am a psychology major," he said.
"Ah, yes, you always liked to understand more about human behaviors," I recalled.
"Yeah, I'm lucky to get the subject I like," he said, slightly ashamed. "I work part-time on the internet on various sites. I also have quite a successful YouTube channel. I talk about human behaviors and personality there. So, my earnings are quite good. At least, there is no hardship.
My student loans are piling up a bit, but I think I will be able to manage."
"I see…"
"It's quite lonely, I must say," he chuckled bitterly. "Father is in jail. Mother remarried. She lives near this hotel, you know. I met her once, yesterday when I was buying coffee. Her new husband is really old.
He smells like weed."
"Well, of course, that's the type of person she attracts," I muttered. "It's not like she is any good."
"Draven lives near too. These people did not leave this place."
My breath got stuck in my throat just hearing Draven's name. I feared him the most. Father also hated me and hurt me, but he was much scarier.
"This Draven guy, why is Blue so afraid of him?" Cyan asked, sipping on his coke.
Max glared at him. "He is not a good person. Of course, she would be scared of him."
"What did he do to her?"
Max gave me a quick glance. "You just need to know he is not a good person. Someone like him should rot in hell!"
