Chapter 413: First Mission
(From Cyan's Perspective)
Blue walked almost like an automated machine through the forest. The bracelet was once again around her wrist. It would be there until we reached the door.
Azure had come to make sure she did it in the right way. He had a smug look on his face as if he knew this experiment of his was truly successful.
Blue was looking around, hoping to find a way to run. There was no point. She would only exhaust herself and ruin my plan.
"Don't try to make a run. Don't try to escape. You will get caught anyway. So, don't cause any trouble for me," I had warned her several times before coming here.
She was a surprising person. I did not think she would be this weird. When her branding was complete, I had a feeling she had a high pain tolerance, but I could not understand it well enough because she was lying on her stomach and hiding her face and mouth. I needed to see her expression at least to understand that. But last night, I found out that I was right about her having a high pain tolerance.
Was it because of her family in her world? Did they hurt her? I heard her life was hard, but I did not know much. She also mentioned only one of her brothers even though she had two. What was her other brother like?
I once asked about him. Although she refused with a small smile, saying she had forgotten, the clear fear in her eyes and her trembling hands did not go unnoticed.
Something had happened between them.
'What's her brother's name? She told me about Maxen only.'
I was not a curious type of person. I usually did not care. But I still wanted to know about her family more. I wanted to know the cause of her fear and her strange behavior. It surprised me how often she apologized. I had the habit to get annoyed for no reason and I also yelled at those times.
But it was not like I expected an apology all the time.
So, that was how it felt to be someone people were scared of.
Unexpectedly, it did not feel that good.
"Stop scratching yourself," I groaned in annoyance as I found Blue scratching her arm furiously with her nails.
"What happened?" Azure asked.
"I got bitten by a snake."
"A snake?" Azure exclaimed. "The poison… Did you extract it?"
"No, it was not poisonous," she shrugged.
"How do you know that?" Azure asked.
"I read about it once," she mumbled, looking slightly uncomfortable.
Azure did not see that, rather he took her arm to see if she was truly alright. After all, if something was to happen to her, his hard work would go in vain.
At that moment, I realized something. I realized she had the same 'problem' as I did. And it was a 'problem' that she was uncomfortable about it, just like I was. Stay tuned to empire
'Photographic memory.'
I possessed the ability to remember every single thing I read or heard people say. I had to be attentive to remember those though.
That ability could be uncomfortable at times, but when I learned how to use that ability, I was grateful for having it.
"What's the snake's name?" Azure asked.
I wished she would just stay silent, or say she did not remember that.
"A rough green snake?" she said. I knew what was going to come next. "The rough green snake, also known as Opheodrys aestivus, is a non-venomous colubrid found in North America. While these names are occasionally used to refer to it, they are more frequently used to refer to the smooth green snake."
'One of the problems of having a photographic memory. You want to blurt everything out.'
"Oh? You have a good memory," Azure said, clearly a bit surprised.
"Ah…," she bit her tongue. "I think I do have a good memory."
I never told Azure about it. He had a theory of us having some kind of special ability, but he was not sure what because whenever he asked, I just refused.
Letting him know was like being his puppet. Because I stopped trying to impress him, I probably was not as vulnerable as they thought I was.
'Now that I think about it, Blue and I are completely different, even though we are twins. She is not that smart, though she can make up theories and look into a situation well. Her ability to look through people was admirable. Not to brag, but I think I am quite smart. I hear everything, I see everything and I understand everything; I just don't care. That's why people think I am dumb.
That's probably for the best since I don't like things to get noisy.'
Just as Azure planned, Blue's mental health was not too strong. She was wounded quickly. A person like her needed support mentally all the time- affirmation especially.
Perhaps the King of Querencia could give exactly that, which was why she wanted to stay with that obsessive man.
I knew how important support was. Even just a bit of emotional support could do wonders for a person. I never got it, so I knew the importance.
"We are here," Azure announced.
I looked around. I had seen this place a lot of times, but I wished to observe it again, one last time before it got destroyed.
"My daughter, do you remember what I told you?" Azure asked Blue softly. It kind of annoyed me how his voice changed when he talked to her. It was not like the change was real.
"Yes," she gave a nod, looking at the door. It was the same door she had come through two years ago. "I need to feel my power. And give my all."
"That's right," he said and asked for her wrist which she gave him slightly reluctantly. He took the bracelet off, eyeing her as if warning her not to do anything funny.
She glanced once at me and I gave her a small nod. If she truly tried to do anything funny here, we were doomed.
Azure was not completely helpless after all.
