Chapter 9: The Hunt Game..
Titus wondered what was going on in the major castle building. His wife had told him she had seen several carriages entering the castle and they didn't have the kingdom's batch. He really wondered what shady business king Cashito was up to. He had to find out as this could be his chance to ascend the throne, he thought deeply, this was his innermost desire that he didn't want the public to know. He thought, then his daughter would stop living in the shadow of another.
He called one of the guards that was on duty and whispered some things to him and the guard nodded and went away, possibly on an errand.
Kalispel stood behind the door and noticed the movement between her father and the gaurd. What were they up to? Was his father scheming again? Meanwhile she didn't bother to find out. She heard Ishaka and his team would be going for a game hunt. She wanted to be there but female werewolves weren't allowed. Many a time, when the warriors are getting ready for the hunt. The females that admired Ishaka and his looks would gather around there. This greatly soothed his ego. But, she was royalty, if she was to go there. Ishaka would really give her an attention right?
On the hunt preparatory place…..
Ishaka and his game mates saw the women as they gathered to watch them. He was the strongest Alpha wolf and it made the women want to have him. Some who had already found their mates sometimes felt jealous.
"The Princess has never come to watch the game" One of the male werewolves said.
"I would kill to see her come watch me." He said and laughed out loud.
"If she was to come watch someone, it has to be Ishaka, get over yourself." Another werewolf said while smacking his head.
When Ishaka heard this, a cunny smile curved up his lips. He hadn't publicly made it known that he wanted to have the Princess to himself, he always tried to be prudent about it.
Whenever one brought up talks about him being the only capable mate for Princess Tahira, he would always respond that the Princess had to marry for love and not by capability.
"I don't even think I'm worthy enough for the Princess" he usually said.
Owing to this, everyone saw him as the most decent man.
But he hadn't ever had the opportunity to converse with the Princess. He was going to make that happen soon enough. He wasn't going to loose his chances with her.
Kalispels Chambers…
She had decided to go watch the hunting that day. She needed to look graceful. She didn't want to loose face. She really wanted Ishaka to be impressed by her.
She let down her hair which she had tied into a bun. She ran her brush through it and within seconds it looks relaxed. It fell to her shoulders and gave her a girly look.
She finally felt relaxed enough to step out. The aides that usually went with her were made to stay back. She didn't want anything or anybody to ruin her plans for the day.
Hunting ground…..
They were almost set for the hunt. Then someone said out loud, isn't that Kalispel? The daughter of the King's brother? Everyone turned their attention to the direction in which she approached from. Her skin was indeed fair. One would know this one wasn't an average werewolf. She walked with grace. The male werewolves could only hope she would throw a gaze at them. She was after all the closest thing they had as to seeing the Princess herself.
When Ishaka heard that the Princess's cousin was approaching. He immediately wished or hoped for a second that the Princess had come with her.
But, unfortunately she came alone, one could see a ting of disappointment sweep through his eyes. He noticed she approached him while maintaining a lovely smile on her face.
For a moment there he thought, she was interested in him because of the way she smiled at him. All the male werewolves stood up as she drew closer.
"What a wonderful feeling it is to be in your midst." She said with a charming smile. They all fell in love with her immediately.
"You're welcome Princess" They all greeted in unison.
"Don't let me get in the way of your preparations, I just came to watch" she said.
She looked round and found a viewing spot that wasn't occupied. She walked towards there and sat to watch. Their hunt game was quite a show.
At the sound of the gunshot each werewolf would run deep into the forest and is expected to come out with a game in twenty minutes.
They would go for so many rounds, the werewolf with the most game would emerge the winner.
Ishaka had been winning for most games they had played in the past. One would say that he was blessed with the gift of hunting. He rose to fame among the other male werewolves in the pack because of that.
Most times in the game, some werewolves would come out with no game. It was usually the most shameful thing that could happen to a werewolf. It hurt their pride. Therefore they trained hard for this. Some even got private instructors to coach them.
Soon it was time to start and people were already cheering. Some cheered for their mates, while the ones who haven't found their mates cheered on to the one they admired. As a result of this, Ishaka got more cheers.
They all positioned themselves, then the werewolves shifted form. At the sound of the gunshot they all galloped into the forest, people began cheering which quickly died down as they had all entered the forest. The main cheer usually occurred when the twenty minutes had elapsed.
Soon all the ladies that came to watch moved to their cliques. They started discussing the presence of Kalispel. They wondered why she had come. The ones that thought they could have a chance with one of the elite male hunters, suddenly lost hope. It was obvious. All the male werewolves would want to curry favour with her.
Kalispel could feel the gazes towards her. It was only natural she thought. Some of them would wish she wasn't there but, she didn't care.
Initially she didn't want to display a haughty behavior because she wanted to appear nice and beautiful infront of the male werewolves particularly Ishaka. But, as soon as they had all gone in, she felt she didn't need to save face anymore infront of those ugly looking wenches she thought.
How could a girl look so ugly? She thought, focusing her gaze at one of the girls that looked timid, particularly because of her looks.
The girl had noticed the way Kalispel looked at her and cowered back.
Since they hadn't said anything provoking to her she decided to let it go.
