Chapter 5: Chapter 5: The First Light Pierces the Dark Clouds
The familiar figure with a cool aura was none other than Dai Chengze, the eldest son of the Dai family. How could he suddenly appear here? Dai Shiya's heart tightened, and she observed Dai Yue's reaction calmly.
Dai Yue obviously didn't expect Dai Chengze to show up, and her expression was a little unnatural, but she soon regained her cute smile, "Brother, why are you here? I was chatting with Shi Ya."
Dai Chengze glanced at them calmly, and when his eyes fell on Dai Shiya, there was a barely perceptible scrutiny, "Really? What were you talking about?"
Dai Shiya lowered her eyes to hide the thoughts in her eyes, and replied calmly: "Nothing, just chatting casually."
Dai Chengze did not ask any more questions, but just said "hmm" lightly and turned away.
After Dai Chengze's appearance, the dinner seemed to be shrouded in a subtle atmosphere. Dai Shiya could feel that the eyes around her were more obscure and inquiring.
After finally waiting until the banquet was over, Dai Shiya dragged her exhausted body back to the servants' rest area. As soon as she sat down, Wang Ma's sarcastic voice rang out: "Hey, isn't this the eldest daughter of our Dai family? Why, you stole the limelight at the banquet, are you tired now?"
In the past, Dai Shiya would remain silent in the face of Wang Ma's sarcasm, but today, she raised her head and looked directly at Wang Ma, her tone calm but with a hint of chill: "Wang Ma, I respect you as an elder and won't argue with you, but that doesn't mean you can slander me at will. Everything I did at the banquet today was to protect the reputation of the Dai family."
Wang Ma obviously didn't expect Dai Shiya to suddenly refute. She was stunned for a moment, then sneered, "Protect the reputation of the Dai family? Don't you look at your own identity? You are a fake, how can you say such a thing?"
"It's not your turn to judge my identity." Dai Shiya fought back without showing any weakness, "It's Wang Ma, as an elder of the Dai family, who not only failed to fulfill her duties, but also went behind our backs to spread rumors and sow discord. I think you have forgotten your identity, right?"
Wang Ma's face changed, and she defended herself with a guilty conscience, "What nonsense are you talking about? When did I gossip?"
"Really?" Dai Shiya sneered, "Then let me ask you, were you the one who took the pair of jade earrings from my room last week?"
Aunt Wang's face turned pale instantly and she stammered and was unable to speak.
Dai Shiya ignored her and walked straight to her room, leaving Wang Ma standing there alone, her face turning pale and blue... The next morning, Dai Shiya got up early. She did not stay in the servants' rest area as usual, but took the initiative to find the housekeeper and asked to participate in some housework. The housekeeper was a little surprised at first, but seeing her firm attitude, he arranged for her to tidy up the garden.
Without saying anything, Dai Shiya rolled up her sleeves and started working. She pruned branches, cleaned fallen leaves, watered and fertilized the plants with skillful and neat movements, not at all like a pampered young lady. Seeing this, the other servants all looked at her in surprise. They originally thought that Dai Shiya was just pretending, but they didn't expect that she would actually work seriously, and do it quickly and well.
"Miss Shi Ya, please take a rest. Let us do the work." A young servant couldn't help but say.
Dai Shiya stood up, wiped the sweat from her forehead, smiled and shook her head, "It's okay, I'm not tired yet. Besides, these tasks should be done by everyone together."
Her approachability and hard work gradually won the favor of other servants. They began to chat with her and ask about her situation, and their tone became much more respectful.
However, all of this was seen by Wang Ma who was hiding in the dark. She originally thought that Dai Shiya was just trying to gain sympathy in this way, but she didn't expect that she actually got the recognition of other servants. Wang Ma was jealous and a nameless anger was rising.
She sneaked into the room that Dai Shiya had tidied up, pushed the neatly arranged books to the floor, made the bedding on the bed messy, and finally deliberately knocked over the vase on the table. The water in the vase flowed all over the floor, wetting a large area of the carpet.
After doing all this, Wang Ma left the room with satisfaction. She wanted to see what kind of expression Dai Shiya would have when she came back and saw this scene.
In the evening, Dai Shiya finished a day's work and dragged her tired body back to the room. When she pushed open the door and saw the scene in the room, her face instantly sank.
The other servants heard the noise and rushed over. When they saw the mess in the room, they opened their mouths in surprise.
"What's going on?" asked a servant.
Dai Shiya didn't say anything. She looked around and her eyes finally fell on the puddle of water on the ground. She squatted down and gently touched the carpet with her hand, then stood up with a meaningful smile on her lips.
"I think someone must have accidentally knocked over the vase?" Her tone was calm, but with a chilling chill...
Dai Shiya looked around, sweeping her eyes over everyone, and finally stopped at the puddle of water. "I think someone must have 'accidentally' knocked over the vase?" Her tone was calm, but there was a hint of emotion that was hard to fathom.
The servants looked at each other, no one dared to speak. Seeing this, Wang Ma was secretly pleased with herself, but pretended to be surprised, "Oh, how did this happen? Who is so careless!"
Dai Shiya ignored Wang Ma's performance, just smiled faintly, bent down and began to clean up the mess on the floor. She picked up the books one by one, wiped them carefully, and re-laid the bedding, her movements gentle but firm. Finally, she picked up the wet carpet, walked to the door, shook it vigorously, and threw the water droplets onto the floor of the corridor.
After doing all this, Dai Shiya stood up, patted the dust off her hands, and looked at Wang Ma with clear eyes, "Wang Ma, what do you think?"
Wang Ma felt a little guilty when she saw Dai Shiya's eyes, but she still pretended to be calm, "How should I know? I was busy in the kitchen and didn't see anything."
"Really?" Dai Shiya smiled noncommittally, said nothing more, turned around and walked back to the room.
The other servants looked at Wang Ma with a somewhat subtle look. Although they did not dare to say it out loud, they all knew in their hearts that Wang Ma and Dai Shiya did not get along, and Wang Ma did have a motive for committing the crime.
"Hey, what are you looking at?" Wang Ma felt uneasy. "I'm telling you, don't think I don't know what you're thinking! I've never done anything like this!"
However, her defense seemed feeble and powerless. The servants just quietly dispersed and went about their own business.
Wang Ma was so angry that she stamped her feet, but she could do nothing. She knew that her plan had failed. Dai Shiya did not get angry as she had imagined. Instead, she resolved the crisis calmly and indirectly won the favor of other servants.
That night, the housekeeper told Mr. Dai what happened during the day. I thought the old man would be furious, but he just said calmly, "I know, go down."
The butler was confused, but did not dare to ask more questions. He bowed and walked out.
In the study, Mr. Dai put down the documents in his hand and frowned slightly. Although he didn't like Dai Shiya, he also knew that she was not the kind of child who would make trouble for no reason. This matter might not be that simple...
"Master, what do you think about this matter..." the butler asked cautiously. He had followed Master Dai for many years and knew the old man's temper well.
"Humph," Old Master Dai snorted coldly, "I think this girl has grown wings. She's trying to show off her authority right after she walked in!"
The butler was shocked. He knew that the old man had misunderstood. He was about to explain, but was interrupted by Mr. Dai with a wave of his hand.
"Don't say anything, I know what's going on." Old Master Dai said in a deep voice, "Go call that girl over, I want to see what she has to say!"
"Yes, sir." The butler had no choice but to respond and leave.
Dai Shiya was reading a book in the room. When she heard a knock on the door, she got up and opened it.
"Miss Dai, the master asks you to go to the study." The butler said respectfully.
Dai Shiya was confused, but nodded and followed the butler to the study.
In the study, Mr. Dai sat at the desk with a serious expression.
"Shi Ya, I heard that you had a conflict with the servants today?" Mr. Dai asked in a stern tone.
Dai Shiya's heart trembled, knowing that the old man had misunderstood, and she quickly explained: "Grandpa, you misunderstood, I didn't have a conflict with the servants."
"Hmph, no conflict? Why did the housekeeper tell me that you deliberately made things difficult for Aunt Wang today?" Old Master Dai obviously didn't believe Dai Shiya's explanation.
"Grandpa, I..." Dai Shiya wanted to explain, but was interrupted impatiently by Grandpa Dai.
"That's enough, no more talking!" Old Master Dai slammed the table and shouted angrily, "I think you are just relying on your father and me's favor to do whatever you want! You even dare to bully the servants. I think you are really getting more and more outrageous!"
Dai Shiya felt extremely aggrieved. She had done nothing wrong, but was accused of such a crime. However, facing the anger of Mr. Dai, she did not dare to refute him. She could only lower her head and endure it silently.
"Kneel down!" Old Master Dai pointed at the floor and shouted.
