The Warlord's Second Life As A Commoner

Chapter 3: The Warlord's Second Life As A Commoner : 003

The presence of a baby in the house usually brings with it the warmth and bustle of childbirth. But when Lucian Rayne was born, the room was silent. There was no crying, which is usually the first sign of a baby's life. There was only the quiet gaze of eyes, too quiet for a newborn. These eyes, though small and innocent, seemed to hold an unearthly depth.

Anna, who was weak after the birth, looked at her son in confusion. Why isn't he crying? Is everything all right?' she asked in a worried voice.

Evan Rayne, her husband, took Anna's hand gently. She looked at the baby, then at the midwife who was assisting with the delivery. "He's fine," the midwife replied with a small smile, though there was doubt in her tone. "Some babies don't cry at birth, but look, he's breathing well."

But something in Evan's heart was not right. He knelt beside Anna and took the baby in his arms. The look in the baby's eyes calm, sharp and alert made his hair stand on end. "Lucian," she whispered, calling out the name they had chosen long before today. You are our little miracle.

The baby was silent, his eyes watching Evan with a gaze that seemed to study every inch of his face.

The morning after Lucian's birth, the atmosphere in the Rayne family home was different. Normally, a newborn baby would make a scene, crying and fussing. But this was not the case with Lucian. He was quiet in his cot, only occasionally making small mumbling sounds, as if talking to himself.

Anna, though still weak, couldn't take her eyes off the baby. "He's different, Evan," she said as she sipped the hot tea her husband had made.

Evan, who was cutting bread, nodded slowly."I know," he replied briefly. In his mind he couldn't ignore the baby's gaze. There was something about it that made her think back to her past to the time when she had stood by the side of Maximus Caelum, the legendary hero she admired and considered her own father.

But as he stared longer, the memories changed. A flash of memory flashed through his mind: a young boy he'd trained, a warrior he'd mentored into a formidable swordsman, someone who would eventually stand as Maximus Caelum's right-hand man - himself. Evan's eyes widened as he made the connection. "No way," he muttered under his breath, but it was enough to make Anna look at him in surprise.

In his wooden cot, Lucian stared up at the ceiling of the house. In his mind, the image of the battlefield came back to haunt him. He saw himself - or rather his old self as Maximus Caelum - raising the great sword of Vermont, leading an army against endless waves of enemies. He remembered the cold feel of steel against his skin, the screeching sound of fallen enemies, and the pain as the last blade pierced his body.

But behind those images of war, another memory began to emerge. She saw the face of a young man Evan Rayne. A country boy he had forged into a sharp sword, one who had stood by his side in his darkest hour. Lucian fell silent. "He lived. And he... is my father now," he thought with mixed feelings. The irony was bittersweet, but it also brought a warmth he hadn't expected.

When Evan approached him that night, carrying an oil lamp to check on the condition of his little baby, Lucian looked into the man's face with a gaze full of emotion. Evan,' he thought to himself, 'you were my sword. Now I'm your son. It's a strange world.

The days went by and Lucian grew up quickly. Although he was still a baby, Anna often noticed that he seemed to understand words earlier than he should have. When Evan spoke to him, Lucian would look up at him with bright eyes, as if absorbing every word like a devoted student.

He is a special boy,' Anna said one evening as she and Evan sat by the fire. I don't know how to explain it, but I feel he has a great purpose in life.

Evan just nodded. In his heart he knew that Anna was right. But he also knew that great purpose often came with great responsibility - and inevitable danger.

That night, as Anna drifted off to sleep, Evan stood outside the house, looking up at the stars. He clutched the small medallion Maximus Caelum had given him years ago. It was a symbol of trust, something given only to those deemed worthy.

"If you truly return as my son, Maximus," Evan whispered to the heavens, "I swear I will do everything I can to support you. But this time, I'll make sure you don't carry this burden alone."

Inside the house, Lucian lay in his bed, his little eyes still open. He heard Evan's voice in the distance, and for the first time in his new life he felt something he had almost forgotten in his old one: a sense of belonging.

Under the star-filled night sky, a new story had begun. Maximus Caelum, the hero reborn as Lucian Rayne, will face a world full of new challenges. But this time he has something he never had before a family that will always stand by his side.

A few weeks after his birth, Lucian began to show signs of remarkable development. He began to smile, but it wasn't the innocent smile of an ordinary baby. The smile felt like a confession, as if he understood something that could not be spoken. Anna and Evan often noticed that Lucian seemed to have a unique way of calming things down, even in the midst of tension.

One afternoon, while Evan was chopping wood in the garden, Anna took Lucian outside for some fresh air. She held the baby in her arms as she spoke softly. You know, son, the world isn't always kind. But I think you'll bring light wherever you go.

Lucian listened to his mother's voice, though he could not respond. In his mind he felt that something was beginning to connect a destination that was beginning to look vague in the distance. He didn't know what awaited him, but he knew that this life was giving him a second chance, not only to protect, but also to learn what it meant to have a family.

As the sun began to set, Evan returned home with a smile on his face. He looked at Anna and Lucian and said, 'I don't know what the future holds, but I know we can face it together.

And under a sky that turned orange, the little family began their journey - a journey that would change their fates, and perhaps the world, forever.
