The Villainess Refuses to Repent

Chapter 16: Stage of Fire and Shadow

Song Wanníng had always been protective of her young disciples. So when she spoke those words today, it truly came as a surprise.

The others quickly shifted the topic, bringing up something else.

Eventually, the sect tournament officially began, and everyone's attention returned to the battle at hand.

In the first round, all 110 participants appeared on a single battle platform. The contestants grouped up according to their respective sects, forming eleven small teams.

A chaotic free-for-all was about to erupt.

Spells lit up the skies above the platform. The scene turned into utter chaos, and the disciples watching below could hardly keep up with the whirlwind of motion. Their cheers filled the air.

Because the audience was composed entirely of disciples from Wentian Sect, it was only natural that their cheers were the loudest.

Song Wanníng glanced at the figures on the battlefield but didn't seem interested. Instead, she picked up a storybook and began reading it with ease.

The Sect Master of Wentian Sect twitched at the corner of his eye. Though clearly annoyed, he said nothing. He simply gave his disciples quiet support from his seat.

On the battlefield, Bai Yang, Ye Chuxue, and Lu Nanfeng moved as one. Their coordination was seamless as they quickly forced opponents off the stage, weaving through the chaos with ease.

They had survived life-and-death situations together more than once. The kind of understanding they shared wasn't something others could replicate.

Yet despite one victory after another, Bai Yang felt no joy in his heart.

That figure seated high above had not looked his way even once.

...

The free-for-all ended quickly. With indiscriminate attacks flying in all directions, the weaker cultivators were knocked off one after another. In just the time it takes to burn an incense stick, only twenty remained.

Thanks to the alliance between Bai Yang, Ye Chuxue, and Lu Nanfeng, Wentian Sect was left with only the three of them. The rest had been eliminated.

Even so, Wentian Sect still had the highest number of participants left compared to the other seven sects and four factions.

The Sect Master of Wentian Sect felt both pleased and anxious. His concern stemmed from the fact that both Ye Chuxue and Bai Yang were still injured.

After a ten-minute break, the second round resumed.

The cultivators drew lots and paired off for one-on-one battles. The winner of each match would advance to the finals.

Everything progressed smoothly. As expected, Bai Yang and Ye Chuxue both advanced, while Lu Nanfeng was eliminated.

On the high platform, Song Wanníng's expression remained cold, showing no hint of satisfaction. So far, everything had unfolded just as the Mirror of Three Lifetimes had shown.

As the male and female leads, there was no way they would lose. The final round, where the champion would be decided, was destined to be their battlefield.

Both gave their all, putting on a breathtaking duel. In the end, they fought to a draw and shared the title of champion. From that moment on, their names spread far and wide, becoming dazzling stars in the world of cultivation.

Song Wanníng gently twirled the ends of her hair, a glint of cold light in her eyes.

They wanted to climb to glory by stepping on her?

Only if she allowed it.

Time passed swiftly. The evening glow faded behind the horizon, and darkness crept across the sky.

Bright lanterns lit up the plaza, turning night into day in an instant.

The tournament had reached its most thrilling, most critical stage.

Only five contestants remained, competing for the top three spots.

Bai Yang and Ye Chuxue were among them, basking in the adoring gazes of their fellow disciples. Even with the scandal clinging to Ye Chuxue's name, the admiration for her never waned.

"Ye Chuxue of Wentian Sect will face Xi Wenjun of Wanjian Sect. Liu Chan of Qixing Faction will face Bai Yang of Wentian Sect. Luanshan Sect receives a bye."

The matchups were announced, and both Bai Yang and Ye Chuxue stepped onto their respective platforms. Their eyes met across the distance, offering each other silent encouragement.

They had promised to fight their way to the finals together, to stand side by side on the champion's platform. This was the most crucial moment.

At the elder's command, the matches officially began.

Ye Chuxue struck first. Her long flute spun in her hand, and a delicate yet powerful melody burst forth. The sound pierced straight into her opponent's soul.

Xi Wenjun's expression turned sharp. He raised his broad saber and slashed downward. The blade roared through the air like thunder, unstoppable in its momentum.

But the soundwaves pushed back against the saber light, dulling its brilliance.

Xi Wenjun's eyes narrowed. With a backward sweep, his saber unleashed a blinding arc of light, illuminating the sky with overwhelming force.

Ye Chuxue danced lightly across the platform, her movements weightless like a feather. Her flute streaked through the air like a shooting star. Her graceful posture turned the battle into a breathtaking performance.

Xi Wenjun, in contrast, was all strength and precision. Every strike was swift and fierce, his technique flawless.

Their moves clashed again and again. To the disciples below, their speed was nearly impossible to follow.

"Wait, Ye Chuxue actually mastered sound attacks?"

One elder watched her with bright eyes, barely containing his excitement.

In recent years, sound-based cultivation had fallen out of favor. Few chose to study it, let alone with such skill.

"Her talent is extraordinary."

As a cultivator with a Chaos Spiritual Root, Ye Chuxue faced no barriers in her training. She could freely select techniques from all five elements. Once she fully matured, she would undoubtedly become a formidable force with limitless potential.

She was the future hope of Wentian Sect.

The crowd murmured in agreement, all eyes on Ye Chuxue. Even those who felt jealousy bubbling inside couldn't help but praise her.

The Sect Master of Wentian Sect grinned ear to ear, clearly satisfied with her performance. He had been worried about her condition earlier. Now he realized his concerns had been unnecessary.

Meanwhile, on the other battlefield, things didn't look so good for Bai Yang.

He had been injured multiple times by Song Wanníng, and his wounds had yet to heal. Now he was clearly on the back foot.

The Sect Master frowned. He had sent someone to deliver a medicinal pill, so why did Bai Yang still seem in such poor shape?

The truth was, Bai Yang had never taken the pill.

His attacks were ruthless, his gaze icy. The sword in his hand surged with power, each swing like a thousand blades striking at once.

A storm of ghostly sword shadows closed in on Liu Chan from all directions, compressing and tearing through the air with an eerie screech.

Liu Chan raised a gourd-shaped artifact to absorb the sword energy, while his other hand wielded a crimson spear that deflected the remaining strikes.

His face was grim, but confusion stirred in his eyes. He had sparred with Bai Yang before. Something about him now felt off.

Still, it wasn't his concern.

Liu Chan's eyes sharpened. With a twist of his spear, the tip exploded, releasing a flurry of gold needles, thin as hair, that shot toward Bai Yang.

Bai Yang froze for an instant, then darted backward into the air. His sword came crashing down, casting a shadow over the incoming needles.

"Pfft, pfft, pfft—"

The needles fell, each one embedding itself into the platform at an angle.

Suddenly, Liu Chan's crimson spear swept in from behind, aimed straight at Bai Yang's back.

Bai Yang's expression darkened. He swept his leg out in a low kick.

But the spear moved like it had a mind of its own, twisting in midair to strike again.

Bai Yang drew a breath, ready to counterattack, when a sharp pain bloomed in his core. His spiritual energy abruptly vanished.

A sound like tearing silk.

The spear pierced his body.

Bai Yang fell to one knee on the platform, coughing up blood.

Liu Chan gasped, "You were injured this whole time?"

They had all prepared for this tournament for months, staying within their sects to maintain peak condition.

Yet Bai Yang had stepped into battle with serious injuries left untreated.
