The Ventriloquist of Emptiness, His Angelic Knight (BL)

Chapter 15: The Prince, Seven of Cups

Victor sits in his office, reading through a few pages of documents and letting out a deep sigh as he signs another document and places it to the side. His office is silent; Victor already told Ron to head to rest for the night, so it's only Victor and his thoughts that fill the room.

"Love." Victor mumbles, the word rolling off his tongue absentmindedly. Victor can't even say he loves his own parents, so how could he love a fiancé that for years all they do is bicker and tolerate each other? That's all Victor does, he tolerates whatever he can, throws away what he cannot, and ignores whatever in between.

There's a soft knock on his door that interrupts his thoughts. Victor looks up, softly allowing whomever is in the other side of his door with few words. It's Kaiser who opens his office door, a rolling cart of small plates filled with food and desserts is in his possession with a tea pot and tea cups placed on one of the racks.

"I know you said to cook for you only for breakfast," Kaiser said, "but I noticed you didn't touch your dinner, and I'd be a bit worried if you didn't eat before you slept, My Master."

Victor stared at the cart of food and snacks, his heart feeling a bit warmer than usually, and his hands sweat from his feelings of nervousness and confusion, emotions inflicted from seeing Kaiser's smiling face, from being the receiver of his kindness; such actions bring upon complicated emotions of distraught.

"You needn't do so." Victor said. "But thank you."

Kaiser nods, rolling the cart over and serving Victor dishes and desserts and pouring him a fresh cup of tea—Victor notes, it's his usual tea filled with pig's blood.

"Ron must have showed you how to make it." Victor mumbles, causing Kaiser to nod his head as a response.

"Should I leave you to your devices, Master?" Kaiser asked. "I do not desire to bother you if you need your space."

Victor frowns, watching as Kaiser readies himself to leave, but he suddenly shakes his head, his heart plummeting at the thought of Kaiser leaving.

"Stay." Victor said. "I desire you to."

Kaiser stills, nodding his head, a soft blush on his cheeks.

"Then your will be done," Kaiser said, "My Master."

"Then sit." Victor said, motioning to the small cart of food, "and feel free to eat. You made it, you have the right."

Kaiser blinks, his eyes wide in surprise, before he snorts, letting out a soft laugh from his lips.

"My Master is quite kind." Kaiser said, but Victor feels confused, looking at Kaiser with a raised eyebrow.

"I've never heard that before." Victor said, "You are the first to say such things."

"It's true." Kaiser said. "Many people…abuse people. Take advantage of others because they have power and-and you have not once done that. To a man like me. You have every right to, yet I-I've been treated like a human being by you, Master."

"I could care less if I was a Prince or a regular man," Victor said, "No one has the right to abuser another."

"Even if there a revolt criminal, Master?" Kaiser asked, a shake, a small tremble in his voice. "To truly even a man like me?"

Victor swallows, and it takes a few minutes for him to find his footing, the realization that Kaiser—Venice—whoever to title him—may be labeled a fiend and menace within the kingdom. With a man deemed to be evil and cruel, maybe Victor is losing his touch, and maybe Victor is finding his footing, but Kaiser has been nothing but kind and gentle, a completely different person from anyone Victor has known, even in his family and as a man deemed as a criminal and vile person, Victor can't help but sink deeper in Kaiser's self, in his pure soul and kind heart, and maybe that's it—maybe Kaiser's kindness is the truest act of evil he continues to sprout, but Victor cannot stop himself from caring for this man. Victor hangs on to Kaiser's every word; Victor stops and listens, he becomes gentle and kinder, something he didn't even know is within him, and this new, refine version of Victor is a stranger, yet it is someone that Kaiser has held with open arms for the past few days together.

"I'd never hurt you, Kaiser." Victor said, his voice not even above a whisper. "It is not within me, and I cannot do that. To you. A man like you."

Kaiser meets Victor's eyes, his green eyes wide, his plump lips trembling, and his heart shines on his sleeve.

"My Master." Kaiser said, his tone mixed with strong emotion. "Oh, My Master."

Victor swallows, staring at a lose paper on his desk, loss for words himself, but still able to find himself lost in the pebbles of kindness and apathy Kaiser seems to drop for Victor to pick up.

"Those things one does for fun," Victor asked, "What are they?"

Kaiser opens his mouth with his wide eyes before he lets out a soft laugh, sitting up straighter as he sits on the couch beside Victor's desk.

"Well I-I remember being busy like My Master, and not having to many opportunities for fun." Kaiser said, a small smile on his face. "But I always like to sit at a high place and watch the sun rise or set. It helps me relax."

"You aren't scared of heights?" Victor asked.

"Not at all. I enjoy them." Kaiser softly responds.

"What else?" Victor said, his paperwork long forgotten, and his cheek resting on his palms as he watches Kaiser talk, his ruby eyes soften at Kaiser's words.

"I like to cook." Kaiser said. "I like walking through the towns and seeing all the festivals. The children are always adorable to play with, and I love the small shops that stick around for new tourist. Oh! And I love to exercise, I think it is very beneficial to the body and soul. And I-."

Victor doesn't say anything, he keeps his eyes on Kaiser, his gaze softens at Kaiser's excited eyes and words, and Victor lets himself get lost in Kaiser, in his voice, in his kind words, in his soft smile, and in his somatic being.
