The Untouchable of Magic High School – A New God Enters the Game

Chapter 19: Chapter 18: Fleeting Moments of Connection

Walking Home

Yugen found himself in an enviable spot: three guys—Tatsuya, Leo, and himself—surrounded by five girls—Miyuki, Erika, Mizuki, Honoka, and Shizuku. To others, it might look like paradise, but Yugen couldn't shake the thought that his plain looks paled compared to the others' charisma.

The conversation shifted to CADs, the lifeblood of magic high school students. Yugen recalled the chaos his next-gen device proposal caused at FLT, thanks to his department head's relentless demands.

"Does Tatsuya tune your CAD, Miyuki?" Honoka asked.

"Yes, I trust Onii-sama completely," Miyuki replied.

"Just minor tweaks," Tatsuya said modestly.

Minor? For Miyuki's seamless casting? Yugen thought, skeptical.

Miyuki showed her CAD, and Shizuku's eyes lit up. "That's not a commercial model, is it? Not even custom."

"Simple, Shizuku. It's a handmade gift from Yugen," Miyuki said proudly.

Shizuku, familiar with CADs due to her family's influence, caught it instantly. Erika pounced. "Handmade? Yugen, you can do that?"

"Just modified a commercial base. Can't build from scratch," Yugen said, downplaying it.

"Still impressive. That takes serious hardware knowledge," Mizuki chimed in.

Yugen could handle broad systems intuitively but left fine-tuning to Tatsuya. He didn't mention designing the hardware from scratch, brushing it off casually.

"Then make me a custom CAD!" Erika teased.

"You've got your family's, don't you? Can't steal work from the Isori clan," Yugen shot back.

"Not a no, though…" Erika grinned.

Yugen had toyed with sword-shaped CAD prototypes—over a hundred designs, most impractical. The one used in Okinawa was an experimental weapon, barely stable.

"I could tweak something, but Shin'yōryū and Senbaryū sword styles are too different," Yugen said.

Senbaryū, practical for police or military, contrasted with Shin'yōryū's assassin-oriented blend of swordsmanship, martial arts, and ninjutsu. Inherited from Nobutsuna Kamiizumi, Shin'yōryū retained traces of traditional tachi combat. Yugen's promotion exam ended with his opponent surrendering after a tense standoff, earning laughter from Gōzō and pity from others.

"You know my family's device is a hassle to wield," Erika groaned.

"Like swinging a giant cleaver," Yugen quipped.

Shin'yōryū's ninjutsu was exclusive to Kamiizumi's bloodline, a "secret" tradition. Its hardening magic wasn't true magic but labeled as such to conceal its nature.

Shizuku joined in. "Erika's family dojo is brutal."

"You've been there?" Honoka asked.

"Yeah, invited by their grandpa. That's where I met Yugen," Shizuku said.

"He threw a wooden sword at Shizuku's mom. I stepped in just in time," Yugen added.

"What kind of situation…" Erika muttered.

Shizuku's mother had provoked Gōzō with killing intent, and Yugen intercepted the thrown sword. Gōzō got a physical "lecture" from Shitsuru afterward.

Over snacks, Leo and Erika discussed her CAD. "Engraved type? Retractable, so it's hollow? How's it not running dry?" Leo asked.

"Only needs psions at the swing's peak. Like 'helmet-splitting,'" Erika explained.

Miyuki reacted. "Helmet-splitting? That's an 'ultimate' technique. It's not just about psion volume—that's incredible."

"Are there even normal people at our school?" Mizuki wondered.

"No normal people at a magic high school," Shizuku said matter-of-factly.

Shiba Residence

"Big place," Yugen remarked at the Shiba residence.

"No denying that," Tatsuya replied with a wry smile.

As they entered, Miyuki grabbed Yugen's hand. "I'll cook something special tonight!"

"Don't overdo it," Yugen said.

"Oh, now I'm motivated!" Miyuki beamed.

Yugen glanced at Tatsuya, who shook his head. "Sorry, give up. She's been like this since you moved in."

After changing into casual clothes, dinner was lavish. While Miyuki washed dishes, humming, Yugen and Tatsuya talked on the sofa.

"Finally, real talk. Ten Master Clans business is a hassle," Yugen said.

"You've got army and FLT ties complicating things," Tatsuya noted.

"Thanks for unpacking my stuff."

"Mostly Miyuki. She worried about touching anything sensitive."

Yugen's room was neatly arranged, thanks to Miyuki's enthusiasm. He thanked her sincerely. "This stay was the Yotsuba head's idea. Mayonaka's involved. Post-Okinawa, Major Kazama ordered no direct contact with you."

"Kazama?" Tatsuya asked.

"Special Tech Advisor and Unofficial Strategic-Class Mage, Lieutenant Tatsuzō Uejō. That's me. Missed orientation for a defense demo. You weren't called to avoid compromising secrecy."

Tatsuya smirked, hearing Yugen trashed soldiers and tanks in retaliation.

"Saegusa's 'Yuu-kun' was about a Ten Master Clans meeting?" Tatsuya asked.

"Planned to go as Yuto Nagano, but Saegusa's network sniffed me out at Valentine's," Yugen said.

"Who spilled?"

"Their head. Didn't want to deal with him."

Mayumi, suspecting Yugen's identity from a party, pressured her family's head to investigate for Valentine's chocolates. Yugen's father, Hajime Mitsuya, was furious, demanding explanations. The Saegusa head apologized. The Mitsuya clan, close to the Itsuwa, gained influence rivaling the Saegusa and Jūmonji, thanks to intel and military tech.

The Mitsuya declined regional oversight, leaving it to the Yotsuba—a move Yugen subtly encouraged. Isolating powerful clans like the Yotsuba was riskier than integration, as history like the Genpei War showed.

Media manipulation was common, but Yugen had leaked the Great Asian Alliance's Okinawa moves three years ago, a secret he kept.

"Saegusa's engaged to the Itsuwa heir but still gets touchy," Yugen grumbled.

"Even Mio Itsuwa?" Tatsuya asked.

"Secretly tested a new 'healing' magic on her. She's near normal now, uses a wheelchair for cover. They're even talking marriage."

Yugen, a third son, was a potential Itsuwa groom. He declined. "Why do the Ten Master Clans like me? I'm calculating."

"Your virtue. Accept it," Tatsuya said.

"No way. Too many strings."

Yugen, unpopular in his past life, was wary of motives. He planned to confront the Ichijō heir next time.

Miyuki, done with dishes, giggled. "Talking with Yugen brings out Onii-sama's emotions."

"Normal for me," Tatsuya said.

"Three years ago, after losing to Yugen, you were tweaking your CAD, determined to win," Miyuki teased.

"First time I felt that," Tatsuya admitted.

"Don't want to fight you again," Yugen said.

Tatsuya revealed his unique power, limiting emotions except for Miyuki. Yugen nodded. "Heard it from Mayonaka when I treated her. She asked me to befriend you, but I wanted that anyway."

"Mother…" Miyuki sighed.

"Overly meddlesome," Tatsuya added.

"But you're happy, right, Miyuki?" Yugen asked.

"Yes. Onii-sama and Mother are truly family now."

Yugen's actions mended Mayonaka and Maya's bond and saved Honami. The Toyama clan's thrashing might've been a plus, though another incident could doom the military.

"How do I seem to you, Tatsuya?" Yugen asked.

"Strange but good. Friend, partner, comrade," Tatsuya said.

"Strange how?"

"Creating new magic effortlessly, unnoticed. The 'Annihilator Magician Titania.'"

"Not flattered," Yugen muttered.

Miyuki laughed.

Shiba Basement

In the Shiba basement, Tatsuya showed a CAD tuning setup Yugen designed. Yugen revealed his CADs: Force Silver Custom's fully-tuned "Valkyrie" and "Odin," prototypes for Tatsuya's Silver Horn. With five output limiters, they handled large-scale magic, even strategic-class with two limiters off.

Tatsuya was intrigued. Miyuki, suspicious, asked, "Onii-sama, when did you start talking with Yugen?"

"Relax, Miyuki. Yugen's Taurus Silver," Tatsuya said.

"Not just you and Ushiyama?" Miyuki asked.

"Tatsuya on programs, me on hardware, Ushiyama on production. That's Taurus Silver," Yugen explained.

Miyuki hugged Yugen's arm, startling him. "You're amazing, matching Onii-sama!"

"Nothing to offer for praise," Yugen said, flustered.

"You're handling it well," Tatsuya teased.

"Not into that," Yugen retorted.

He wasn't against girls but found the attention puzzling, reacting blandly. He just hoped for peace in the Shiba household.

Yugen's Perspective

Walking home with this crew feels like a circus, but a good one. Miyuki's enthusiasm is infectious, but her hug earlier—and now this arm-grab—has me on edge. Is she always this intense? Tatsuya's smirk says he's enjoying my discomfort. Erika's CAD teasing and Shizuku's dojo stories bring back memories of Gōzō's chaos, but it's Honoka and Mizuki's quiet support that keeps things grounded.

Revealing my Taurus Silver role to Miyuki was a risk, but Tatsuya's cool with it. Our partnership—his programming, my hardware—makes us unstoppable, but I'm keeping the full scope of Valkyrie and Odin under wraps for now. Strategic-class magic isn't something to flaunt, even here.

The Mitsuya name's a double-edged sword. Mayumi's "Yuu-kun" and the Saegusa's Valentine's stunt prove they're watching me. Declining the Itsuwa marriage was the right call—too many strings, like Tatsuya said. But Mio's recovery is a win, even if it's secret. The Mitsuya's rise, tied to the Itsuwa and military tech, puts us in the spotlight, and I'm not thrilled about it.

Miyuki's joy about her family's mending—thanks to my nudge with Mayonaka—feels good, but the Okinawa leak I pulled three years ago is a secret I'll carry alone. The Ten Master Clans' games, Morisaki's elitism, and Shina's safety weigh heavy. For now, I'll settle into the Shiba residence, keep up with [Taurus Silver], and dodge Mayumi's probing. First High's just getting started, and I'm ready for whatever comes next.

Tatsuya's Perspective

Yugen's full of surprises. His Taurus Silver reveal wasn't a shock—I knew he was the hardware genius—but Miyuki's reaction was. She's latched onto him, and I'm not sure if it's admiration or something more. Either way, he's handling it with his usual blunt charm.

His Mitsuya status explains the "Untouchable" reputation, but his actions—Okinawa, the speech, stopping that fight—show he's more than a clan name. He's a friend, a partner, and maybe a rival. His "Annihilator Magician" title and strategic-class magic are on another level, but he downplays it like it's nothing. That's Yugen.

Living with him will keep things lively. Mayumi's interest and Morisaki's grudge are problems, but Yugen's already defused worse. The Mitsuya-Yotsuba tie through this arrangement—Maya's doing, no doubt—means we're both under scrutiny. I'll keep an eye on him, Miyuki, and the school's tensions. For now, dinner's done, and Yugen's settling in. Let's see what surprises he's got left.
