Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Reunion with Lili

Compared to that heavy greatsword, this firewood-like stick was far more convenient to carry. Yoru tucked it into the gap between his gauntlet and arm, then headed for the dungeon.

He had taken Hephaestus's warning to heart—but even so, his reaction was little more than an indifferent "oh."

After all, Yoru had never truly taken the gods seriously. And for the sake of his relationship with Riveria, he knew he would eventually have to confront them directly.

Of course, when that time came, things likely wouldn't be settled through words alone. After all… would the gods really listen to a mortal?

"Hm… should I find a supporter?"

Standing at the entrance to the dungeon, Yoru muttered to himself.

Although he had grasped the method of encountering monsters in the dungeon, navigating it without a supporter was still a bit inconvenient.

As he scanned the surroundings, considering where to find a supporter, a familiar figure appeared in front of him.

"Um… sir, do you need a supporter? A cheap one, I promise."

Carrying a large backpack and forcing a stiff smile, Lili stood before him.

"Hm? Didn't you run off last time when I said I'd hire you again? So why are you back now?"

Yoru chuckled as he looked at the girl in front of him. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a man stomping toward them angrily.

So that's it… She's in trouble again and came looking for me to bail her out, huh?

Instantly understanding the situation, Yoru shook his head and bent down slightly to smile kindly at her.

"I'll take care of it for you. But for the next three days, you have to do exactly as I say."

Though Lili made a reluctant expression, she still nodded.

After all, she was just a powerless supporter. Against adventurers, she had no chance—and no one would stand up for her. Coming to Yoru again had been a desperate gamble, but he had helped her once before.

"Y-You again?!"

The man who had been stomping over finally stopped in front of them. It was the same adventurer that Yoru and Ryuu had chased off in the alley a few days ago.

Seeing Yoru again only seemed to inflame his rage further. His face twisted with hatred, and one hand gripped the hilt of his sword.

"Get out of the way! This time, no one's here to protect you! Hand over that girl, or I'll make you regret it!"

As he shouted, the surrounding adventurers began watching with curiosity.

Conflicts between adventurers—or between adventurers and supporters—were common. Most of the time, it just meant a good show was about to start.

After all, there were guards stationed near Babel Tower to maintain order. As long as no one died, fights were often ignored.

The adventurers involved understood that murder was no joke. Most scuffles were just petty skirmishes.

But this particular adventurer clearly wasn't thinking straight anymore. Seeing Yoru again had only thrown him further into a blind fury. At this point, he looked like he wanted to tear Yoru apart.

"Can I ask why he keeps chasing you, Miss Lili?"

Yoru asked with a wry smile, glancing at the furious man as he turned to Lili.

"T-That's because…"

Lili fumbled for words, but before she could explain, the man had already drawn his sword and charged.

"Die, you bastard!"

With a furious roar, he brought his sword down in a savage overhead strike—only for it to be stopped effortlessly.

"What was that? I didn't quite catch it."

Yoru had raised one finger, lightly pressing it against the blade.

Whether it was a trick of the mind or something else, the crazed adventurer suddenly felt a chill pierce his bones, snapping his mind back to reality.

Gasps rippled through the crowd of onlookers. The attacking adventurer might not have been particularly strong, but stopping a sword with just a finger was unbelievable.

Was this unassuming boy actually a Level 2 adventurer?

As the crowd buzzed with speculation, Yoru gave the stunned attacker a faint smile.

Of course, his physical strength wasn't enough to block a sword with one finger. In fact, his physical ability was still around the level of an average person—probably no stronger than Lili.

But just because he was physically weak didn't mean he couldn't do the impossible.

Magic wasn't like a gun in the hands of a child. When used properly, it could turn impossibility into reality.

For example—if his fingertip was coated in frost, he could instantly freeze the momentum and power of an incoming strike. To a bystander, it would look as if he stopped the sword with just a finger.

But to Yoru, it had merely felt like reaching out—and the enemy's blade had landed lightly against his hand.

The force, the impact—both were nullified.

To the onlookers, it was a breathtaking and stylish display. Especially to Lili, who stood behind Yoru completely dumbfounded.

Hn… looks like my control still needs work.

The adventurer frozen in place before him wasn't stunned by fear—he was literally frozen solid. Even though Yoru had pulled back his magic almost immediately, it had been just a little too late.

Yeah… my control definitely still needs improvement. When I can manipulate my power as smoothly as Riveria can, then maybe I'll be ready.

"Let's go. Into the dungeon."

Without even glancing back at the dazed Lili, Yoru spoke softly. It took her a moment to react before she hurriedly followed after him.

"Oh, and someone should probably call a healer for him. If he dies, I don't want anyone blaming me."

Turning back, Yoru addressed the crowd. Only then did the others notice something was wrong with the adventurer frozen mid-swing.

He wasn't stunned by fear—he had been entirely frozen solid.
