The Ultimate Lich King of the Multiverse

Chapter 58: Chapter 58: As Always

Liliruca followed silently behind Yoru, for the first time truly wondering…

Had she just signed up to follow a complete lunatic?

Unlike most adventurers—who entered the dungeon gripping their weapons with tense vigilance, eyes sharp and bodies alert, ready for battle at any moment—Yoru was entirely different.

He carried a massive greatsword on his back, looking strong and imposing… but he had shown zero intention of actually using it.

From the moment they entered the dungeon, there hadn't been a single trace of caution in his movements. It was as if they weren't exploring a dangerous labyrinth, but rather strolling through his private garden.

Before Lili could even say much, Yoru had already whisked them down to the fifth floor at an alarming pace.

"U-Um… Yoru-sama, shouldn't we be a bit more careful…?"

Even now, walking through the fifth-floor corridors, Yoru kept moving forward without slowing down. Lili couldn't help but fall behind slightly, nervously glancing around as if a monster might burst through the walls at any second.

Seeing the gap between them widen, she finally called out.

"Please keep up. There's nothing for you to worry about."

There was a trace of impatience in Yoru's voice. He had hoped bringing a supporter might somehow trigger monster spawns… but to his dismay, it was just like always.

"Ugh, fine, I get it…"

Lili picked up her pace, though her thoughts churned.

Maybe… maybe Yoru was actually a Level 2 adventurer? That would explain his composure.

If he really was Level 2, then she'd better behave. Getting on the bad side of someone like that was not something she wanted.

She might be able to play little tricks on regular first-tier adventurers, but against a Level 2? That was suicide.

Before long, they had descended all the way to the ninth floor. The eerie silence, and total absence of monsters, was starting to genuinely creep her out.

"Um… Yoru-sama… are you perhaps a Level 2 adventurer?"

She finally built up the courage to ask, looking up at him with hopeful eyes.

"Me? Nah. Just Level 1."

Yoru answered casually, and Lili felt her eye twitch.

Level 1?!

You're telling me you casually dove straight to the ninth floor as a Level 1?! Are you fearless or just stupid?! What if a monster suddenly jumps out and attacks you?!

Wait… why haven't we seen any monsters yet?

This is seriously messed up. Something's really off about the dungeon today...

Her mind spinning, Lili watched as Yoru finally stopped walking.

"Tch… guess this is as far as we go. Any further would be pointless."

You wanted to keep going?! What, were you planning to stroll into the 13th floor, where Level 2-class monsters roam?!

As Lili struggled to find words for her disbelief, Yoru casually leaned back against a stone pillar and sat down.

"Well… I guess our luck's pretty amazing. We made it all the way to the ninth floor without seeing a single monster. That's wild."

Trying to break the awkward tension, Lili searched for something—anything—to say.

"No… it's not luck."

Yoru shook his head, dismissing her words.

"Huh? Then what is it?"

She blinked in confusion, tilting her head slightly.

"The dungeon… the monsters… they're living things. They're alive. And that means… they feel fear."

"Fear?"

"That's right. They're afraid. So they don't show themselves."

"Ah… I see… so that's how it is…"

Lili didn't even know how to respond. She stared at him with a look that screamed what is this guy even talking about?

Don't tell me… you're gonna say you're the thing they're afraid of?

I've seen a lot of adventurers in my time, but this level of narcissism? This is a first.

Even bringing a supporter didn't help?

Looks like I'll have to go back and talk to Hestia. Maybe she has an idea…

"Let's go. We're heading back."

After resting for a bit, Yoru stood up and started heading toward the exit.

Not a single monster had appeared. Naturally, that meant no magic stones, and no income. Not that he seemed concerned.

Lili followed along behind him.

In general, supporters received a cut of the magic stones collected in the dungeon. Normally, the ratio was agreed upon before entering—50% being the standard split.

But realistically, Lili was lucky to get 10%, and more often than not, she got nothing.

That's why she never had a good impression of adventurers.

It was also why she started looking for other ways to make a profit.

For instance…

Her eyes had been locked on the greatsword on Yoru's back ever since they entered the dungeon. And now, finally, she saw a chance to bring it up.

"Um… Yoru-sama, your weapon looks really cool."

"This thing?"

Yoru glanced back at the sword.

"Yes… it just looks so strong. You must be an amazing swordsman, right? It's a real shame I didn't get to see you fight today."

"Swordsman? Nah… I'm a mage."

His cold reply left Lili speechless.

"A… a mage?"

Her brain briefly froze.

A mage… carrying that thing?

Greatswords were not beginner-friendly weapons. Even skilled swordsmen found them hard to use. And now this mage was lugging one into the dungeon?

Either he's lying… or he's totally insane.

Lili stared at him in disbelief, increasingly convinced Yoru was a full-blown lunatic.

"Um… so if you're a mage, why not use a staff? Isn't this, uh… greatsword a bit much?"

"There's no need for that. Staffs—no matter how well-crafted—are too fragile. They'd just slow me down."

Yoru replied nonchalantly, and Lili internally groaned.

Here we go again…

Seriously, does this guy get withdrawal symptoms if he stops being arrogant for five seconds?
