Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Some Are Born Extraordinary
Should he give up or continue?
Alex clenched the handle of his rifle and furrowed his brow.
He didn't want to give up this opportunity that he had been waiting for so long, but at the same time, he didn't want to take a risk and do something he wasn't sure about.
While he was torn between these two conflicting emotions, Red and his companion had already entered the range of 80 meters.
In just a few seconds, Alex tried to find a reason to convince himself.
He looked up at the sky, and his heart was filled with a sense of hope.
The risk and the reward are equal. It's fine to leave one alive, as long as they don't find out. With the darkness and the surrounding buildings, the chances of getting away in time are high.
Having reached this point, Alex had already made up his mind.
Even if the timing wasn't perfect, it was still too early to give up.
He took a deep breath, holding it as he stared at the two figures walking step by step.
Seventy meters.
Alex's index finger lightly pressed against the trigger.
Sixty meters.
His finger tightened slightly.
Fifty meters.
Alex held his breath.
Just as he was about to shoot, he saw Red suddenly quicken his pace and walk toward a wall.
Alex's eyelids twitched, and he almost pulled the trigger immediately.
After seeing what happened next, his suddenly quickened heart rate slowly returned to normal, and his index finger left the trigger.
In the alley, Red was leaning against the wall, bent over and vomiting filth at the base of the wall.
His companion was patting Red on the back while leaning over and saying something to him.
The dark clouds in the night sky suddenly parted a little, and the moonlight shone through the gap, like beams of light projecting into the alley.
Alex looked at the two figures huddled together, and a bold idea suddenly came to mind.
"This angle... No, it's not quite right."
He slowly got up and moved to another sniping position a few meters away.
Immediately, he half-crouched down, holding his breath as he aimed the muzzle at the two figures in front of the alley wall.
A preconceived line of fire ran straight from top to bottom across Red's neck, finally resting on the brow of his companion.
"It'll work!"
Alex's eyes flashed with murderous intent, and his index finger squeezed the trigger.
Bang!
The ear-splitting gunshot suddenly resounded through the alley.
The next second, two heavy thuds were heard as bodies hit the ground.
Red fell to the ground, his eyes wide open, and his mouth flapping like an oxygen-starved goldfish.
A blood hole had been shot in his neck, and a bloodline was thrown from it, forming a small arc and landing on the ground.
As for his ferocious-looking companion, he lay on the side without a sound.
The bullet that passed through Red's neck, after losing its momentum, accurately drilled into his companion's brow, killing him instantly.
A moment later, people awakened by the gunshots looked out of their windows.
For a moment, the night was filled with a cacophony of sounds.
Alex had already left the sniper position and, like a monkey, descended the stairs nimbly, heading back toward the weapons store.
Dozens of meters away from the sniper position, Thor stood in the shadow of a building.
His breath seemed to blend in with the night, and even if you looked closely, you might mistake him for a statue.
Looking at the two bodies in the alleyway from a distance, Thor suddenly said, "What are your thoughts after watching it?"
"Confusion, and... disbelief."
Sunny's puzzled voice came from another shadow a few meters away.
She stepped out of the shadows and, unlike Thor, who was looking at the corpses in the alley, she looked with disbelief at the now-deserted sniper position.
The face, which had been scarred by a knife, was now full of an indescribable look of shock.
"When Alex took the shotgun from Jesus, I saw him fiddling with it. His technique looked very rusty, and he kept turning the gun over and over. He looked like he was handling this type of gun for the first time."
"So I'd rather believe that he shot the last bullet with a pistol than a shotgun. How on earth did he manage that?"
Thor glanced at a stunned Sunny.
He could understand how she felt because he had been through something like this before.
There are some things that cannot be changed, no matter how much you try.
People are divided into classes from the moment they are born.
Some are born into poverty, while others are born into wealth.
Some are born with extraordinary talents, while others are born with nothing.
"Sunny, there are always monsters in the world. Some monsters are born to use knives, while others are born to use guns."
"So I still have to... keep learning how to use a gun?"
"..."
Thor slightly frowned, as if he saw his former self in Sunny.
Seeing Thor's silence, Sunny looked negative.
"I have no talent for the knife, and my poor physique isn't suitable for specializing in physical skills. In the end, I can only settle for learning the gun."
"When Jesus praised me for having good talent, I even thought for a while that I had found the right path."
"But it turns out that the way Jesus saw me back then is different from the way I see Alex now."
Sunny denied herself, and the sense of frustration couldn't be concealed even by the darkness of the night.
Thor sighed and said, "Alex's talent really surprised me, but when it comes to using a gun, I don't think you'll be worse than him, even though he's now walking faster than you..."
"Is that supposed to be comforting?"
"Even if I had nothing better to do, I wouldn't do something that's so thankless."
"It really is comforting."
"..."
Thor shook his head and looked at the lights in the night, his expression meaningful.
"Sunny, this road is even longer than you think, and it will even grow to the point where you personally feel what despair is. You and Alex have only just walked a trivial little part of it."
"You should know that when I was young, I wanted to become a great swordsman known throughout the world. But like you, I was no good with a sword... Hey, don't go! My heroic memoirs have only just begun, come back here!"
Thor's wrinkled face twitched several times as he watched Sunny walk away without looking back.
"That little brat... I don't know if she even heard what I said."
He looked up at the night sky, and the memories of the past that Sunny had brought out became clearer and clearer.
He had been frustrated by his lack of talent and had thought that there was no path for him.
Until...
The captain's smiling face slowly emerged in his mind.
Thor couldn't help but smile and continued to indulge in the memories of the past.
But soon, some bad memories also came flooding back.
A man with a huge iron fist, his body painted black with an armored aura, barged in and pushed the captain's smiling face aside.
Thor shook his head violently and gritted his teeth.
"Damn it, why do I have to think of him at a time like this?"
At this moment, Thor felt nauseous, as if he had eaten a hundred flies.
Back at the weapons store, Alex returned to his room and put the newly-honored Usopp away properly.
"Hoo..."
Exhaling lightly, Alex summoned the Hunter's Notes.
At the top of the black cover, there was an extra dot that was slightly larger.
Alex lay on the bed and carefully felt the changes in his body.
This time, with Sunny's intelligence support, the benefits were much better than the first time.
If his previous physical fitness was equivalent to 5 times that of an ordinary person, it should now be about 15 times.
In terms of physical fitness alone, if understood in terms of Dao power, it was... 150!
